Im new fly fishing in the surf...are you retrieving to give the fly action or trying to keep the fly in the wave set with your mending ? Also wondering if its necessary to impart action to the fly in the surf or do the waves and sweep take care of that ?

Day in and day out, both the surf and the fishing change. What works one day probably won't work the next day. There's a few techniques you can utilize to present your fly differently. Lately the drag-free drift has been working for me a ton, so I mend constantly. The fish want no action. See my new videos to see that. In this video, I used a longer cast with a greased line swing. Sometimes they'll require a wet fly swing. Sometimes an erratic strip will provoke a strike, sometimes a steady strip, sometimes on top, sometimes on bottom. Might even need to make a splash in the right place to get a hit. Floating line gives me the most potential to present the fly in different ways, so that's why I use it. There are no rules! It just helps to know where the fish are. Best of luck.

So much going on here to only be watched once, absolutely a great clip. That slow motion cast is locally called the -Barnegat cast-, not sure here who came up with the name, Bob Popovics or Ed Jaworowski , they named after the dominant south wind in the area, right hand casters must reverse the presentation over the last back cast 😍 Long presentations takes either on the swing or takes at the drop are usually the most challenging, I stretch test the lines in different core finish, mono core fly lines or even tapered long leaders are “rubber bands” the strike feeling is coming second’s later than the visual reference over a slack free system, unwanted deep hook ups are frequent. Keep it coming, you guys are blessed up there, couldn’t find a day bite with any consistency this season👎 Thank you for the work and tutorial🙌 Can’t wait for a drone view on the same scenario 👌

nice crossover from the forehand to the backhand! Which line are you throwing?
@SouthForkSalt2 жыл бұрын
I'm throwing a weight forward line, matched to the rod: 9 weight. The line's by Cortland, but I couldn't tell you exactly which line it is.
