Fun fact I actually learned about this movie. There was no script for it. It was all imprave with imput from the directors. The DvD extras of the movie talks about the actor's being in the same room during recordings to bounce off each other.

Codi did win the tournament but he chose to save Pepe the Chicken because he realized that friendship was worth more while Gran Z was already old, he was a tank, the new star at the time, no athlete can maintain a sport for so long because old age comes later.

I have surf and dive before, but I haven't surf again since close encounter with a shark. But I haven't exactly gone back to the water even though I know what to do if a shark comes at you while your diving but not on the board. So, yeah, that's all I am gonna say about that.

I was NOT expecting to see you guys react to one of my favorites movies of my childhood of all time. Surf's Up and Cars? Are the GOATS of 2000s. I still own the movie on DVD and I am grateful for it. It sucks this film got a sequel that kind of letted everyone down from their expectations, which I suggest not to react, because it's not canon, and it's something I would rather watch over... Megamind 2. But like Cars? Surf's Up is really memorable, iconic, and most of all.. really funny. :)

This movie is so unexpectedly brilliant. All the actors recorded their lines together to create real bonding and chemistry, bouncing off of eachother naturally even with scripted dialogue. The camera movements were tracked from a real rigged up operator into the 3d environment with a screen so they could see what they were filming. The voice overs during the tube segment were from real surfers to offer recognition and get real passion from them, and you can feel it. And in the end, Chicken Joe, despite being a comedic side character most of the movie, ends up embodying the idea of the movie near perfectly. He doesnt even realise hes won, he was just having fun surfing and hanging with his best bud Cody. On top of all that, theres the amazing character relations, and the depiction of surfing? The danger, the exhilaration, the tranquility, the fun, oh its just so good! Do what you want for the heck of it, have fun, and dont lose sight of WHY we do these things. Probably my favorite movie to show these themes, and all from a mocumentary on surfing penguins, who knew?

I found it so funny that all the birds in this film were humanized and able to speak except the seagulls. Seagulls are always beasts. In birds, finding nemo, and even here in surfs up. If there is one truth Hollywood is willing to tell it is that Seagulls are horrible. Shia has always been great. Even back when he was on disney channel in the EvenStevens show as a kid. I liked him also in Irobot, Holes, transformers, fury, and here in Surfs up. Too bad he shut himself in a cabin in the woods to commit cannibalism on any stray soul that wanders in there from now on.
