Hello, good advice as always! One thing i would like to add on is: If you want to learn to push more of your back foot, increase tightness of back axle. This leads to use more force on back foot, otherwise your outside wheel would lift off of ground or tight turns not being possible, giving an excelent feedback for foot pressure.

I've definitely noticed an improvement with my surfing, since getting a carver and watching your (and others) videos about them

I have 2 yows and 2 carvers. I like to warm up on the yow and I enjoy it very much and I can do all my surf techniques like fs power slides and bs snaps on the yow but I prefer the carver for more exact surf duplication of surfing as it has more drive off the tail like my 6’4 surfboards. It drives harder and it requires me to really commit and throw my body into the techniques that translates very well into the water. Maybe if I was on a much smaller board the yow might be a suitable teacher( I am 61 192 lbs and 66 years old) but when I want to fully commit then I go to my carver. I never would have learned to surf like this without my surf skates and many thanks to Noel for helping me along!

I have both carver and smoothstar. Smoothstar is all I use for surf training now. You can get off centre with your body weight way more. In saying that I still use my carver for style and flow when cruising along the beach.

I have had 6 of these. I'm 6'1 190 and prefer the 29" swallow for the skatepark, 30.5-31" for surf training. I also have a 6'6" i made and use for longboard cross step practice and turns....extremely fun! I had a 34" and felt like it was to stiff for working on turns, etc, but it was a nice cruiser around town.

Which carver trucks did you like on ramps? I was using my smoothstar the other day, fun but a bit sketchy at times. Mostly in my head though, never actually lost control.
@decadeca10002 жыл бұрын
@@nickozu169 ive had both the Cx and c7 for park. I wasn't doing grinds or airs, so the c7s were more what I was looking for. I"m purely skating the park for surf training, so for someone wanting to incorporate more traditional park skating , the cx would be better.

Excellent video Noel, love the examples and the comparision of length of boards and wheelbase to actually how different surfboards perform. I have the 32" Super surfer and I'm 5'11 and weigh 79kg. I think that key emphasis on the compression with back knee bent and pressure on the tail to engage through the rail through the top turn is so key. Will practice that in my next surfskate session! I feel that would also translates to backside bottom turn with compression and engaging the heel side rail. I feel it could be great idea also to play around with tightening and loosening the front and back truck to find a balance between maneuverability and drive. (Previously had a #77 Toledo Smoothstar which has excellent maneuverability but lower drive = increased pumping between turns to regain speed).

what do you think about the board volume difference between surfing with wetsuit and without it, paddling wise and surfing wise. Cheers
@surfnshowreviews77772 жыл бұрын
For me here in So Cal wearing a 4/3mm full suit I don’t go up in volume. If I was wearing a 5/4/3mm suit with 7mm boots + Gloves I would go up 1-2L for more float
@titoasd82592 жыл бұрын
@@surfnshowreviews7777 its weird because when I wear a 4/3 at home I feel like a float more paddling with the wetsuit than without it because of the rubber but the extra weight feels when Im standing surfing, that happens the other way around when Im surfing just with shorts somewhere warm... do you feel that too?
@surfnshowreviews77772 жыл бұрын
@@titoasd8259 Hard to say… when I wear a 4/3mm I feel bogged down and confined to the rubber a bit so I paddle a bit slower. When I’m surfing in trunks I feel loose and flexible with no restrictions. The weight of a 4/3mm wetsuit might add 2-3lbs more compared to my 3/2mm full suit but I don’t really calculate that much extra weight into my board volume in the winter here in CA.

for a 5’9 155lb intermediate surfer (normally surfing boards between 5’9 and 6’1) would you recommend the 32” super surfer or the 30.5” puddle jumper?

I tried the Smooth Star 77 Toledo model and it works great. The only thing I think most people will struggle with is speed drills. The front truck is so loose that it can be hard to control for folks that are not used to riding surf skates. I also like Carvers as they are easily found worldwide. Smooth Star surf skates are not sold in the US yet.
