You can also change the screen resolution independently for each monitor, so that it covers the whole screen rather than having a half screen while the edges are blank.

You can also extend the desktop to make use of both monitors and not just having the screen mirrored between screens. This will allow you to set the resolution correctly on the connected monitor as well. The Surface runs Windows after all.

Why do you use it as a duplicated monitor? Can't you set is as extended? So you use the 100% of the monitor resolution, and you can run other programs on the Surface display

When you put your SP3 in the dock and close it on the SP3 it has a connector that also slides into the power port of the SP3. So it connects through the power port.

I think you can, if you manage the monitor settings in Windows. The only reason why it's not full res here is because it was set to clone display, rather than extending, or only outputting to the monitor.

I was hoping for so built in speakers at $200 for some improved media consumption. But being able to connect my own makes that a mute point. Though the addition of an ethernet port is welcome. Actually I agree with you it's not priced that bad considering what all it gives you. I might get one. . .

Set it to expand, not mirror the surface and set the monitor primary. Then you can at least work at full resolution :-)

Chaitanya Breed The SP3 can output to full 4k resolution. Meaning if you have a 4k monitor you can take advantage of it.
