January 2021, doing this allowed me to at least get my surface pro books to work on outlet power. Still DO NOT work on battery, known issue, (makes them partial trash) but this re-set does get you operational if you have one of the surface books that would otherwise be trash.Thank’s for the help, killed 2 birds with one stone!

Thank you very much! My father gave me his nextbook, but he set a password that he forgot. He has memory problem. I keep telling him not to set a password to any of his device. No pressure to replace a unit if need be. I want to know about "data recovery"? Is there a way to save the data? That's my question? Folks are giving you lots of "High Five" but will this get me to a place to retrieve or restore data???

After I choose remove everything and the screen goes dark I then get a screen that’s asks me about reinstalling windows through a cloud download or a local reinstall but it every time I choose one of those I get put back to options for troubleshoot, continue, use a device etc. what should I do?
