I know the whole 'what brush do you use' question is the most irritating thing in the world, but if you ever get the dry brush in procreate working just right, please consider sharing the .brush file. I've even seen people on procreate's own forums asking around for a sinix dry brush recreation. It'd be nice to have an official one by the man himself floating around. PS - Since Ani-May is coming up, let us know if animating on the iPad is at all viable (if you plan on animating this year, that is). Personally I've yet to find anything even close to animation what Procreate is to general drawing/painting. Here's hoping procreate adds some animation options eventually.

@flinkbag67875 жыл бұрын
From someone who owns both a surface pro 4 and a new 2018 IPad Pro, the iPad Pro runs circles around the surface pro in terms of drawing experience. The iPad Pro is lightning fast, has a great battery life, and is incredibly powerful. Procreate is a masterpiece of a program and flows seamlessly with the iPads’ design and drivers. The surface pro 4 is also fantastic, but the pen isn’t as nice to hold, nor is it nearly as accurate as the Apple Pencil. There is definitely some parallax, and no matter what program I used, there was lag. Not to mention those damn windows updates, which happen so often that it is enough to interrupt your work flow. To me, the choice is obvious. GO WITH THE IPAD PRO, they are amazing and you won’t regret it! 😁

@psuemor16515 жыл бұрын
but you know the surface pro 4 is from 2015, right? (so can't really trust your opinion) and well im actually deciding and watching videos and there doesn't seem to be enough difference when the ones compared are the same price, the surface in this video looks extremely slow for what i have seen, im thinking it has the i3 cpu and 4gb of ram, the i5 has 2 times more cores and 8gb of ram for $150 more, also the surface can just do so much more, im guessing if everything you do in your life is check email and draw (not edit, not animation, nothing else) on the go (if you absolutely need the portability) the ipad may be better (apple is still such a hateful company thou) but otherwise the surface seems a lot better so far.
@femcelcore61075 жыл бұрын

Hey Sinix! The reason that the Surface Pro is hot to the touch when running intensive workloads like corel painter, is because it is passively cooled, meaning it does not contain a fan like previous models. As a result, it uses the aluminium-magnesium composite chassy to better dissipate heat, hence why it gets hot. Hope this helps!

@@emeraldeviant725 Using procreate, no matter what brushes I downloaded, I didn't like the feel of using them. Photoshop is my main drawing program and I have my favorite brushes there. On top of that I like to record the screen whilst painting and the inbuilt recorder in the ipad somehow didn't want to record for more than 30-60 minutes and then it just closed without warning :/ (I had more than 200GB space so I don't see the problem really) And even if I did manage to record, there was no free video editor that fit my need (the computer has a few good ones) and it's not convenient to send big video files from the ipad to the computer all the time. I also like seeing the cursor from the stylus so you know where exactly you draw. On the computer, display tablet or a canvas with real brushes, you at least know where the paint will come :3 I didn't buy a textured screen protector, but I think that would have made the experience a bit better. I think I maybe could get used to procreate if I found some good brushes or spent hours creating my own, but honestly I feel like it's more meant to sketch rather than paint?

I completely agree! As much as I dislike Apple, I've been seriously impressed with how intuitive and fluid the drawing experience is on the iPad Pro. I only have two complaints: 1. Coming from a Windows PC and an Android phone, the file management and transfer system between non-Apple devices is terrrrible. I've managed to get around it by using Google Drive and the wireless transfer feature in Documents but ugh. I don't think I should have to download 3rd party apps just to be able to transfer files to and from my computer. 2. Obviously solved with the 2018 version, but the Pencil charging and pairing method is just... wow. I'm impressed that I haven't snapped it off whilst charging yet. Well done me. Even with these (personal) issues, I still would choose an iPad Pro over a Surface Pro for the drawing experience. There are some great Photoshop and Illustrator alternatives (Affinity Photo or ArtStudio Pro and Designer) and Adobe have already announced that they'll be porting full-fat Photoshop over soon (?)

A little disappointed that you didn't point out the flaws of the PaperLike Sinix. While the texture is nice and toothier than others out there, but you also didn't mention that it highly downgrades the visual quality of your iPad. Normal matte screen protectors also lowers screen quality with visible grains, but PaperLike takes it up another notch: once you put it on, as well as the usual matte grains, you can very visibly see rainbow stripes running vertically down the screen. It is a decent screen protector for work, writing/taking notes, or doing quick line sketches, but definitely not recommended for painting or serious artwork.

You could buy the new ipad air or ipad mini. I recommend it more than the regular 2018 ipad. But if you're truly invested in art. I'd say buy the pros. Just like what sinix said, you can buy used gen 2 ipad pro (don't buy the gen 1)

Haha! I totally get the double tapping part on my actual sketchbook man! And I find it absolutely hilarious and irritating that I couldnt do that in the physical world.. one time I was laughing at myself in Starbucks for falling for the double tap thing for the nth time! lol

I created one myself that came close after watching his "paint like a sculptor" video but I'd love to have a brush from the master himself!

thanks for your review. 10/10 is a bit to much for me tbh. The iPads are great devices, but there are enough things they can do better. The issue i have with the iPads for daily use is the file system around it. When you want to create / finish work for clients.. the SP6 is the winner in this area. Full OS and acces to all the tools you can dream of. Clipstudio, photoshop, illustrator, affinity, corel, sketchbook, etc etc etc. And a file system! Ah well... we all seek for different things right :)

Would be nice if you tried the "Remarkable" tablet, which does not have a LCD screen but rather a paper-like e-ink screen, just like Kindle

It's terrible for drawing.

No need to -check out STIMULUS review of this thing for example. It’s a nice device, just not for drawing. From my experience as a professional illustrator I gotta say nothing beats iPad Pro + Procreate combo. I’ve worked on traditional graphic tablets, things like Cintiq, or Wacom Mobile Studio Pro and yeah -accuracy and stability of iPad is just unbeatable today.

I have the same issue with the heat up on the pro I think that it’s made for lighter software for artists so using Corel is difficult. I usually take breaks to go eat so I just save my painting and turn my tablet off to let it cool.

I love your tutorial videos, and I’m excited to see more of what you end up doing on the iPad as well. I own the 2017 12.9 model too, and I think you really nailed a lot of the stuff I love about using it and about ProCreate.

I choose the ipad. Reason is I am someone that enjoys to sit anywhere. without having to bring my pc with me. I love that I get to draw even on the frikkin' beach if I want to. Also nice cover. I should look for a good one myself, but looks like I need to order it online because these weren't in store.

I think I should get an ipad. Its been on my mind, but this video basically convinced me its worth it. Im mostly a hobbyist, certainly not a professional, but one think I hate about digital drawing and painting is the disconnect. I gave up on digital for like 2 years now because its such a pain to deal with. I bought the Surface Pro about a year ago because my laptop was fried and I didnt have a tablet that worked anymore. Its decent but it always felt lacking.

Agree with you about the iPad, but curious to know which Surface Pro and pen you were using? In my experience the SP has an excellent 'surface' feel with the pen's rubber tip.
