I've been following you for quite a time now and have never been disappointed in any tutorial of yours, up until this one. The mocha commands you use to do things you never mention and I can't tell from the video what you are doing. I got to re-positioning the shape over the bowl and somehow unselected it and couldn't get it back. My level of frustration is such at the moment that I am just going to stop. I guess I will check out the Mocha for absolute beginners. Perhaps tomorrow.

Loved the video and as always you have shown me a technique which will more than half the time taken on projects. Hey this video was extremely helpful so thank you! I am trying to use rotoscoping and tracking to cut out video footage from video and essentially superimpose it another another video. I was wondering if you had any advice or tips on exactly how to do that! Thanks again for this video!
@SurfacedStudio7 жыл бұрын
That can be simple (if they are both tripod shots as no tracking is needed) up to impossible (if they're two non-aligned handheld shots). If it's totally misaligned you may not be able to match the elements up without entirely extracting them and tracking them back into the other shot - it'll be an uphill battle though from the sounds of it :)
@alexglassman74087 жыл бұрын
Can you explain how exactly to extract them and track them back into another shot?
@yissy8 жыл бұрын
Also, when the masking path around the item is wider than the item itself, its doesn't matter, because it's only picking up the background. The background is the freeze-frame layer which will match the inaccuracies anyway... (But not the hand holding the bowl)
@SurfacedStudio8 жыл бұрын
Technically we'd only need to roto the edge of where Celina's hand/arm touches the bowl, but since I wanted to show people how to roto a full object I just went with it :)

Very nice tutorial thanks for all the hard work, I was wondering why can't they just make mocha or after effect track by color. I think that would be easier.
@SurfacedStudio4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the comment :) Technically you can, you just need to apply a colour effect to the layer first to select the preferred colour channel and then do the tracking - it'll work off whatever is available to the tracker. You may have to pre-compose, but it's not a difficult thing to do

Hey Tobias, may I ask how do you create those blurry effects that accompany the motion of the moving object? Did you add any additional motion blur effects to create those ghosting artifacts? Would really appreciate your reply if you could help me out.
@SurfacedStudio7 жыл бұрын
I use After Effects for most of my effects. After Effects allows you to add 'motion blur' to moving objects which gives you the blur effect associated with fast moving elements :) The carrot bowl trail itself was slightly different - I duplicated the layer a few times, offset it in time and faded it out to create that 'tail'
@Mankillersz7 жыл бұрын

great tutorial. however i'm having a problem... when i copy the shape data to the layer in after effects, the starting shape is there, but the keyframes do not transfer over... so it does not animate with the clip. any suggestions on why that may be?
@Scripture-Man7 жыл бұрын
This was a very helpful tutorial for Mocha, thank you Tobias :) Though it seems unnecessary to rotoscope the whole carrot bowl? Selina's hand only touched the lower left part, and surely could have been removed with a very simple mask?
@SurfacedStudio7 жыл бұрын
True, you could have gotten away with very little :) I roto-scoped the whole bowl though as an 'object' simply because it then lets me add effects to the carrot bowl as a whole - like the glow / trail at the beginning of the video. It just opens up some options you don't have otherwise :)
@Scripture-Man7 жыл бұрын
That makes sense! Anyway I enjoyed the video, thank you.

That was a lot of keyframing! I'm not sure why you didn't enable perspective tracking, as I thought the perspective of the bowl is changing as your assistant moves it. Would Mocha not have held the track better meaning you had to create fewer manual keyframes?
@SurfacedStudio7 жыл бұрын
You can try, but chances are the track won't improve much as the bowl doesn't really have any flat surfaces to track and get perspective information from. Also, the material is pretty reflective and bright so not sure how well Mocha would do with that - but feel free to give it a try :)
@saturnuria12177 жыл бұрын
No I don't think I'll try it! This is pretty much new to me so I'm happy to take your word for it. I was hoping that Mocha would see the change in perspective through the change in the carrots but, as you said in the video, these don't represent flat planes so perhaps they wouldn't be well tracked.
@GrosGolmon7 жыл бұрын
hey, thanks so much for the great tutorials they are REALLY helpful! i'm having a problem tho, when i paste mocha's mask into AE, the whole timeline gets filled with keyframes and not just the tracked part (basically if i start the tracking at frame 50, frames 1 to 49 will have the same mask as 50 does).. do you know how to fix that? thanks!
