Surfboard airbrush design with classic red racing stripes on a mini simmons. The board still needs to be glassed. Surfboard dimensions are 5’4 x 22.5 x 2 5/8. Bottom is flat with a vee off the tail. PU foam blank. Sprayed with a Paasche Airbrush HG-08 and Createx red paint.

When you spray paint you should hold your gun perpendicular to the surface so that the "fan" hits the surface evenly. You have the gun at an angle so the bottom of the fan will be applying more paint than the top of the fan. Foam is forgiving so you are getting away with it here but it could lead to runs or overspray on a hard surface. Just a tip.

No, just move straight into glassing. Sanding would ruin the paint. The bond will be good as long as you use water based paints.

I sent this one to a glass shop - poly resin. Its good to do a seal coat before laminating to prevent crystallization

I have a question, so I read it’s easier to glass a board with no color pigment or anything, but I wanna make a board and add color and everything so this looks like an easy alternative. Can you just use regular spray paint on a foam blank and then glass over it? Thanks!

Yes you can just use water based paints or acrylic paints. You can do spray paint or paint pens as well.

@@coltonmaihen1884 The difference is just how you explained it - one is sprayed onto the foam and one is in the resin. You can definitely tell the difference visually. Hard to explain in words though.

Is there such a thing as TOO much glass on a board? Could I paint on my existing board, and then glass over it for the best protection? Would that make the board way too rigid? Should I just paint over the glass and use a durable clear coat?

Would make it heavy. Just paint over and then spray a clear coat to protect the paint. I’ve got some spray paint videos for reference

Bro, you should have a separate paint room or at least mask out your stuff around the room with a masking film. You're gonna get overspray all over including the other boards. It's an expensive mistake I had last year.
