Beautiful video. I think the freerace sail really shines in more difficult conditions. You might not be able to keep up with Nils in flatter (easier) conditions. But I am looking forward to be proven wrong :D

Nice comparision. I am already convinced that a freerace or freeride sails will give more fun and is easier to surf then full slalom gear. Only the speed is (something) less but is that so important if you do not sail competition? I don’t think so🎉

I quite love the journey of this new free race experience. I’m a wave guy and I only have one old no cam free race on 7.3 size for the light summer days. I’m interested to see how it develop for you. I might invest next year on a new free race rig. Maybe 7.8.

I use a board like the windsup 11’8” and just 5m and 6m sails in lite to moderate winds, at Kailua. You can have a lot of fun and great exercise windsurfing lite, even sub plane. I liked the waterstart demo in the vid because I’m not good in the water, like Drake said “trying to to keep it calm is a struggle for me”. If you are going to try windsurfing make sure you rig to perfection, look at these guys harness lines, perfect to 1 cm. I’m 71 in quite good health. Get out there.

Looking foward to seeing the tuning of the AC0 as I am not entirely convinced the trimming point on the sail is accurate! Having said that I did over 30 knots on my first outing with the sail massively over downhauled and it still fell short of the trimming point on my 6.1 so the key is now accurate tuning of downhaul and baton tension .. This is gona be a very interesting project 👍

Congratulations, your decision to switch freerace-sails was the right one. At least in heavy-metal conditions. Maybe in medium wind conditions and super-flat water you will prefer full-slalom, because you don;t need the control and the comfort as much. Looking forward to the freerace-board of Future Fly. It is really missing in their line-up, I think.

Isn't it also what the people say: slalom wins on a downwind course. Also because after the gybe it accelerates better. On a crosswind course, the slalom and freerace show the same top end speed. Or not?

What's the difference between "freeracing"/"freeriding" and "slalom" in windsurfing ? Thanx

The equipment and what you want to do with it. Slalom is a competition discipline where people use race sails and boards and work all year long to gain any % possible of performance. Freeracers can use any performance oriented gear and the focus is on having fun and little hustle.🤙🏽

@@MarioKuempel having fun sounds good...but shouldn't it be the essence of every discipline in windsurfing...? I guess slalom riders are the competion-oriented speed junkies and freeride riders also go for speed but put the fun/experience aspect over the competion ...

@@future_horizon Slalom is literally a categorie of windsurf competition, where the riders race each other across a course that is slightly downwind and has about 5-6 gybes in it. Slalom-boards and -sails are optimized for competing in this discipline. Of course a free-rider or free-racer also wants to go fast, but there are some things that do not have priority in a slalom-race like how easy it is to waterstart (if you crash your race is over anyway), how comfortable board& sail is (race only lasts 2-3 minutes), how easy it gets on the plane and planes through lulls (a racer is usually sailing overpowered, so is concerned more with top-emd control than low-wind performance), sailing upwind (race-course is downwind), how easy it is to rig and tune, how heavy the gear is to carry to the beach, etc. To my opinion, a lot of recreational sailors that use slalom-gear would have more fun and even perform better on freerace-gear.

full race, freerace, slalom , free ride wave. Lots of terminology, and not simple to understand but I’ll try in My way . Pure race usually have the best / maximum draft stability and maximum power. Functional aspects include many battens , many camber inducers and a full shape below, ie especially below the boom. Lots of downhaul , very stiff mast needed. Material use to make sail string but light , don’t get into the waves with this sail , could break mast and rip sail. Maneuvering ease of use is not a priority and these Sails can have a big wind range and be very big in size to small . Expensive. Slalom / freerace, everything above but less or no camber inducers , many battens and still a full shape, still need a stiff mast . Do not take into the waves. Freeride, no cams , many battens but not as many , do not need a top end stiff mast. Still a full shape but possibly now less area below the boom. Least expensive. Material use for durability not to save weight. Wave sails, made tough! Small sizes only as they are usually used medium to high winds. Least amount of draft stability, as power on and power off is priority for wave riding. mast is strong not necessarily stiff. Very little are below boom. Small sized. Expensive for size.
