It's funny how 1.6 players agressively argue that the game engine is better. I've played both 1.6 and source surf for years and yes, they are quite different and each has their own flaws and perks but this does not diminish the game experience of each of their own. Let's be more mature and stay away from shove things down other people's throats.

You should mention biases from the vocal 1.6 preferers in this comment section instigating "the game i play more is better". Gorbachev_x is just saying random stuffs yea and i know better to ignore what he says many times. But just like you i am kind of irritated to see people comparing games in this video. I wouldnt port a single source maps if i didnt like the map or the game

This gave 1.6 surfing a breath of fresh air. Amazing work by Hamburglar and porters, especially Arte de la Puerta, that dude does incredible work. css players in the comments think that css has better movement , well css is more smooth and the quality is just better , but talking about movement and shit , no game in this world comes close to 1.6 movements, it's just different the ammount of movements mechanics and shit this game has is amazing , if you still think css has better movement, congratulations you're a certified bomzh

you can decompile Source maps perfectly, unlike in Goldsrc. But then you need to remake most bent ramps, reapply and rescale textures, simplify models and some other stuff

still cant believe that giant source/go maps are now playable in 1.6 with the superior movement mechanics, what a time to be alive. the only thing missing is source surfers coming to 1.6 to beat some of these maps and experience actually good movement mechanics

@@lulzxdd2328 ramps feel awful with huge invis wall between and then from seemingly bad cliptype compiles, no sgs, slower acceleration, no possibility of actually looping ramps, no responsiveness in the air, sudden spins result in complete speed loss (surf royal spin lol), nah buddy sorry. the maps are superior, but the movement? never

@@POLARTTYRTM Idk what the first part about invisible walls is about, not true. SGS and looping ramps is kzish gimmick I don't care about those. Source is played on 66 tick where all these maps were made for, 1.6 played at 100 fps or smth makes it all pretty easy. Source is buttery smooth, you can spin but not too hard because you need to account for the air accel, you should be penalized for making such imprecise and fast movements in my opinion, and that's how it is on source.

@@POLARTTYRTM both are nonsense and don't really matter at all for any of the source maps, gimmicks I don't care for. Many of the 1.6 maps depend on these gimmicks for optimal routes, to me it's slop, not great, NOT surf.

general movement in 1.6 is 100fps aka 100 tick so everything feels very responsive. You do something and there's instant feedback. 64 tick in source is sluggish because it doesn't match what you do. For surfing, people do 131fps aka around 128 ticks so the movement is even more responsive. Personally, I think source movement is just too "floaty" just because the gameplay doesn't match what you want to do (300fps screen but it takes a few frames to have your movement adjusted).

131 tick, and yes it is generally much easier. A few gaps were adjusted. It's faster though, so some techy stuff can be harder.

@@just__khang in source you are constantly fighting against the air acceleration to gain/maintain speed. I have not played a lot of 1.6 but there seems to be significantly less air acceleration penalty. The responsiveness is the same, but it feels delayed because you are always at the mercy of air acceleration in source. When you compare the 1.6 and source WR run on surf_sidistic it becomes very apparent that source surf settings allow for a much smoother route. I understand the map was made for source, but you could even compare 1.6 wr to my source PB, which is about 4 seconds slower than source WR, and my run still looks smoother than 1.6 WR.

@@Lemon_1337 1.6 you have 100aa instead of 150aa. So technically you have more airaccel in source. But fps (or tickrate) compensates and goes beyond that. One thing that you won't know about playing source map in 1.6 is that you get a lot faster, so the route and turn and whatnot gets very tricky. Extra speed is not always that good so that is why it is harder to get smooth. I tried experimenting with making these ports a lot bigger (epiphany and kitsune2) and epiphany does feel smoother being 1.5x. kitsune becomes much of a drag but whatever. As for sidistic run, don't you mean 1.6 record is 4s faster? The awkward extra speed totally plays in the run not being smooth. Also, these runs are not optimized like source because there are a lot of room for improvement in 131fps. For example, my TAS run for replicant in 1.6 at 125fps (6fps less than usual) is around 28s faster than 1.6 wr

Not sure if I like this or not. For me source maps have way too long waves making runs look a little more boring imo, well some of them atleast. 1.6 maps are more techy and u need to learn more movements in order to get fast runs. I like the combination of surfing, exceed, sgs, bhop etc.Reason why I never got attached to source surf maps which are all focused in a starting block -> surf -> finish. It doesnt mean I hate or like but i prefer runs on the good 1.6 maps. But hey It doesnt mean its a bad update, it brings more content.

this is something i experimented a bit and you are totally right. surf_kitsune in this case is 1.5x of the original map. So that map is bigger than any source map. I did 1.5 for another map and that is surf_epiphany. Both map feel pretty different. Epiphany feels fast though not as fast as the original size. Kitsune drags out a lot sure and it is very chokey for final stage.

why are here arguments boys i think both games ofer a different surfing experience, though css feels very limited to being smooth which ofc some people prefer, 1.6 is way more tech-like with aggressive minmaxing. idk what is superior, maybe for surfing ramps without tricks or tech css is better but as a movement as a whole i would argue that 1.6 is better and people will just choose what they like. Also, css players pls get louieismyname to play some 1.6 maps i know he will be insane
