Jack is very good at explaining this maneuver. He certainly knows what he is doing. I personally don't see how anyone could even surf under the frigid, freezing conditions they have to endure over there. Just that fact alone earns my respect. JACK we have very very similar historys tho i surfed once in Hawaii when i was like 9 then i lived in a land locked state and rode bmx mtb and dirtbikes then i moved to florida and i really took off with surfing

Any advice is useful. I’ve done a few airs but I need to commit my feet and stop kicking them away. Well at least that’s what I thought before watching this. now I’m thinking I’m not central enough over the board 🤔. I think I’m close and have landed 1 so far😊🤙✌️

Question: On a skateboard, there's the pop off the tail using the back trucks. How do you generate that pop (to get out of the water) w/o that option? Thanks for any info.

Ethan Rogers I recommend when in a air hold onto the side of your board so your feet stay on. I dont really know because I have never done a air but maybe try this technique. Hope it works

Hey jack! i live in brasil and have been surfing for a while, i always try airs when i have good amount of speed and the right section to do it, the problem i have is leaning too far back like you said in the video, i always pop out of the water with my feet glued to the board but end up falling back... im gonna try leaning forward, but is there anything else you could suggest trying? thanks!! keep it up!

Thanks for the comment! I had this problem when i started learning aswell, personally what helped me stay over the board is trying to grab the rail, by forcing yourself to look for the rail it make you stay much more centred and stops you from leaning to far back, thats what helped me anyway!!

How long would you recommend surfing before attempting airs or more advanced maneuvers?

I wouldn't say there is a period of time, you just have to go by the level of surfing you are at, for example; it might take someone 3 years to cut back and an additional 2 years before they can air, or you may find yourself doing a cutback after just a few months, it really depends on the individual and the skill level... I would suggest trying airs or more advanced maneuvers around the time you are linking your turns together, confident in going fast and doing turns, both backhand and forehand.. once you can do a cutback, pump, get barreled, top turns those kinda intermediate things, then move on to doing airs :)

thanks a lot but is it possible to do an air with a larger board like a 6.2 fish ? or would that be really to difficult ? btw i'm 16 and 6 foot tall if that helps answering.

Eliott.J DrTazz It would make it a little harder for sure, not impossible though, the first air i landed was on a 5ft11, i was 16 and around 5ft8 I'd say! so it's totally do-able

JACK great thanks a lot becose i havn't got the Money for an other board right now. Btw during the summer i go for about 10 days in Wales and i go surfing at whit Sands ! last year was absolutly awsome ! all the surfers i Saw in the surfshops the next day kept talking about that session !

It doesnt matter if your sponsored or not, surfing should be fun it doesn't matter if you've got a sticker on your board. Also its alot easier to get sponsored in SW England and it helps alot to do competitions
