Surfed Malibu in the late 50"s as an eight grader. Great memories, no crowds. Now it's the 405 freeway at rush hour!

Perfect Malibu, I beg to differ, weird swell angle, all too many sections, I moved east in 2013 and what I'm seeing, so did most the talent of the Bu, did see a few pt to beach rides, ladies ripping. Thanks for sharing.

Unfortunately that is where I learned how to surf as a kid, only because it was my parents beach of choice. I look forward to never having to paddle out there again. Great video as a reminder of what I don't miss. 🤙

Sounds like you're a little hard to please. To be a s*** show, but you're there. R beach of choice was To pangaCanyon Beach in the 60s. That was a cool, happy Very happy experience in my life as a kid. My mom's good friend live there.

Was happy when I moved out of LA. It was either, El Porto closeouts, Venice slop, or Malibu kookery. Near the end I started choosing "None of the above."

Fun glassy conditions last few days thanks for sharing. A bit of unsolicited advice: pull back a little on your shots! It's such a long wave, such a big open face, would love to see a wider of view of the action.

As a short boarder in the 90s for a few years I would switch to a 9’0 for the summer and just surf Malibu. Believe it or not it’s alway been crowded like that. Coming from a short board it was so easy to catch waves…….I would study the lineup for quite awhile and develop a plan of attack before I’d paddle out. There are several ways to approach it so I wouldn’t stay in one spot too long. Move around. I definitely got my share and then some. It’s not as hard as it looks but you have to be dedicated and on top of your game. And at least a little aggressive. Really want it. If you want laidback I’d say skip Malibu. 😎

Phenomenal! Malibu looks like it's the wave that would be the easiest to establish and follow order on. But it's a complete bologna show out there! Everyone thinks its their turn at any given time on any part of the wave. I find this just as entertaining if not more entertaining to watch than a stylish well surfed edit.😂

I always wonder on crowded days like these, how many of the 150+ people out there actually get a wave in a 2 hour period. I'm guessing that number is actually pretty small which begs the question why bother.

So busy what time of day / week was this ? Tbh I liked surfing because it was just the outcasts and drifters now everybody is doing it its much more for the middle upper classes in the uk , posh kids rule the breaks now. That's why I got into foil surfing . If there was this little etiquette at the spots I do surf there would be more fist fighting than wave catching 😮

Malibu, Rincon, Church.. go with no time limit. Expect to get burned and bump some rails. Score 2-3 good ones and enjoy some tacos on the way home. My California crowd mentality in a nutshell

I dunno about perfect. The angle of this particular swell made 1st point faster than normal. You can tell that most of these guys don't even bother dropping in on the sets, and if they do, they're already behind. On a typical perfect day here, rides would be at least a minute long.

Gotta love the guy at 17:30 getting upset at that guy for dropping in on him after he drops in on a guy dropping in on another guy. Californians surfing in a nut shell

On a big south swell you need to go to Westward end of Zuma beach Malibu. It gets up to 17ft, very hollow and fast with perfect shape. In the early morning you will be blinded by the sun if you go right. I had it to myself for a very long time. No one would go out but me. Then a small group of real good surfers on short boards ripped it up.

Malibu brings the worst behavior out in people. Before covid this dreadlocked guy paddle by me at first point proclaiming how many waves he was catching and that was from Spain. I answered, "I can't wait to go to Spain and hog those waves." sorry, the rest of the conversation was rated R.
