I’m equally enthusiastic about Solite. I don’t need 8mm though. Their reef booties are 2 or 3mm and absolutely awesome. Great foot protection and so comfortable. Nothing beats barefoot though!

I totally agree! I have some reef 2mm 2.0's they don't actually fit me too well cause they have a little spacer between the two big toes that gives me blisters. but I got 10 stitches in the bottom of my foot like 15 years ago and since then I've basically ridden with booties 100% of the time.

I also have the 8mm Solites . I'm in the very cold Minnesota water and they keep my feet very warm. Just commenting to reinforce your message to others considering purchasing them. However, I think they overstate slightly about sizing down. I wear a 10 1/2 typically but some brands an 11. I got the booties in a 10 and regret it. Even with the custom mold they jam my toes. I would just be cautious about undersizing too much. But seriously warm and flexible.

yes! thanks bud, I think this is great info for all interested in the Solites. agreed, the 9 fit fine but that was without the liners... so I had a feeling that they'd be too tight with the liners, although I didn't even try. as I mentioned, I have wide feet so if anyone else does, I'd recommend to go true to size or a half size up! the good thing, the water is about 39F here these days and it can get to 33F in the coldest times but I haven't had the need to put the liners in yet. So wearing them without liners works great around 40F and above. thanks bud and I wish you an awesome weekend in Minnesota!

thanks bud!! we did a few standing wave sessions this past year but they just were not as good as the ones last year. I started making wedges to make better waves and that was gonna be a video, but I never finished that project. I'll try to get more in... this past Fall I didn't surf at all cause it was basically windy every wave day, and that's not a bad thing. I appreciate yr words, and I wish you an awesome weekend!!

Looking good on that new board! Cold water tips from Canada: 8mm boots are super thick making it more difficult to connect with the board. Do they sell 5mm round toe? i use 5mm in ice water without a problem. The wetsuit over the boot, as you have done. Rounded toe are warmer than split toe. If air temps get close to freezing you can put plastic bag on your feet or dog shit bag. Adds a lot of extra warmth without the added thickness. For gloves the miit is warmer than split finger. If you need additional warmth, wear thin dishwashing gloves under.

oh dude they say 8mm but these Solites feel thinner than any 7mm that I've ever tried . they give you a great connection to the board, moreso than any regular neoprene booties. they do have 5mm sizes too, but I'm fine with the 8's, never been cold in them. and yeah, I've come to really dig mitts this year... for some reason my wrists have been better this season, but I think I'm lucky with the conditions I've ridden in. the coldest is yet to come!

So I watched this video a few minutes after you posted it and felt like I did not want to be that Florida guy who asked for size 9 8mm booties. But the holes in my current booties sent me in about 30 minutes sooner than I would have come in today. So yeah, I could use some new booties and my size is a 9. Also totally good if you give them to most anyone esle who is in actual colder water. We felt like today was extreme with 45F temperature and 62F water in 8-12kts of wind, but I did get almost 17 miles in. Great videos!

I'll be picking in a few days. but yeah, I had one sesh a month or so ago where I was flushed with water over and over in one foot and it def made my sesh borderline miserable. glad you guys are getting your wind! I'm picking and choosing my days... a few good days up here were missed cause it was in the 20's and I just don't do that. days where it hits 45 in the next month are like the ones that it feels like summer. I'm about to bike to work, it's a sunny 26F right now... not a day for the water. brrr!! LOL thanks bud and I wish you an awesome week and I hope yr feet stay warm!

Totally agree that the 880 is an amazing surf wing, I bet with those waves you could have been having fun on the 680 too. It's almost like there's no such thing as too small with these new HAs. thanks bud, appreciated! that was a fun day for sure... I haven't really paddled on waves much in the last year so it was nice getting back. but looking at the footage, I can see a bunch of sloppiness so I'm eager to get back to paddling on the flat to try to bring some skills together, mostly adding legs to the equation consistently. and yeah, the 680 or 780 would def work on those waves but I do want to work on 2 for 1's so I think the 880 is the best option for the pump out. so I'm gonna ride that with the dw board a lot to work on that. thanks bud, I wish you an awesome rest of your weekend!

Steve from Canada here. I need those booties! Its so cold here in Vancouver Island Canada now and my old 5mm leave me numb for the drive home. I'm a size 9 with extremely high arches so I really need a power strap to lock my booties on place. I also need the extra grip due to minimal contact with the board from those damn ballerina arches. It's so bad I have to wear reef boots in the summer or my feet skid all over the place. One last problem with the arches is that I wear through booties really quickly since the pressure of my 200lbs dad weight is so focused on heel and ball of foot so it would be really interesting if the solites will last more than the 10-20 sessions I'm getting out of oneill or excel. Good to see you back on the dw sup, man that 880 flies so early. Got to kick out earlier and go for some 2 for 1's for dw sup pumping training.

Steve from Vancouver, you certainly have a compelling story! I know how cold the water can get in your parts! well done bud, I'll be picking someone in a few days. and yeah, I sold my old foil SUP to help pay for this dw board and can happily say I prefer it to my old SUP, which I felt worked really well compared t most of my friend's. it's true that 880 is great for paddling waves and the more I get used to it, the more I'm stoked about the pump. I had a crappy pump game before so I'm actively working on it, and it helps to have a foil that ACTUALLY feels kinda natural to pump for once. the 2 for 1s are on the agenda!! still new but I tried a few this sesh and only got a few pumps away. need muscle memory and more confidence. I got this! :P thanks bud, I wish you an awesome weekend!

I love it! Back to my roots of learning to foil SUP’n waves. Believe me I paid my dues in Santa Cruz, San O’Nofre and Costa Rica. Jet ski towing, wake foiling, efoiling, and finally….. Wing foiling, my favorite, luckily it doesn’t get as cold in central CA, 46*, as Massachusetts. I only have 6mil Solites, and yes my feet are never cold in them. Tricky to get on/off with cold fingers, but manageable. New Solite’s look even better but my OG’s are far from worn out and now 3 winters old. Currently in Oregon helping my daughter move and she took me to Hood River aka the Columbia River where wind sports are king, and I had a blast meeting TJ at Big Winds in Hood River. Can’t wait to visit my daughter and hit some Hood River fun. Love the videos Jeremy!

I have a pair of Solite boots 8 mm that I purchased a couple of years ago and just LOVE them. Unfortunately, I broke the left boot because I was probably not careful when I removed it. The truth is that I was in a rush to pick up my son for soccer practice ☹. Well, I loved these boots so much that I went on-line and bought a wet suite kit repairing and spent literally hours to carefully repairing them. It was painstaking work! The fun fact is that I am not sure if I really succeeded at it, because I need to apply so much extra time to carefully removed them, it is a kind of pain, but since they are still kind of functional and do not want to create more global trash, I will keep using them! These boots are great, I truly recommend them! I am looking forward to the day, that I will be finally ready to buy a new pair of them!! By the way...as always great video!!!

I have your name on the list and will be picking someone in the next few days... thanks for playing :P Hope to get a sesh this weekend to try some of the new foils back-to-back. stoked here Chris! for whatever it's worth, if I had to do it again, I'd prolly get the next bigger model up but that said, I'm making due with this one fairly well. I still haven't succeeded with the flatwater paddle ups but it's been almost 2 months since I tried. It's been nice to get some wins by paddling waves. FYI mine is 7'2 and 20.25" wide... it actually feels wide at times, or at least I can imagine how some of those Kalamas or KT Dragonflys get up to speed even faster. but mine is def faster to paddle onto waves and I was almost lapping my buddy out there that day, I could take almost any wave and he had to pick the good ones. I hope all is well, and as usual, wishing you and yr crew and awesome weekend bud!! talk soon.

How long did it take you to get to the point where you could stand and paddle on a DW board? I SUP, but those DW boards look next level in terms of skills required to paddle them. I'm in Southern Cal so don't need the booties, and so glad I don't.
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 5 ай бұрын
sup bud! the dw board... it certainly was awkward at first. hell, it's still awkward. once you have a little forward momentum everything is pretty good, like one paddle stroke will do it. it def uses a lot more of the little muscles in my feet for balance than my old SUP. honestly it's not that bad as long as you give it some flatwater sessions. the paddling was one thing I had to work on... I had to totally change my style, maybe you don't if you've been riding a short SUP or like a wing board. so paddling straight on something shorter wasn't hard, it just took a few sessions for it to get more automatic. mine is 7'2 and if you went longer it would only help track better. I'm still off when getting the leg pump synced up to the paddle... that's my awkward thing right now. anyway... it's not bad but you gotta spend some time for sure. LMK if you take the plunge!!

Thanks J. May try to demo a couple first. Heard good things about the MA too. I was just watching your vid on the Performance 795? do you think it is that much better (stiffer) than the current 85 I have? Everything i read online pretty much says you need to be an intermediate/expert before it makes sense to go with the high modulas? just wondering what your take on it is. Also, next year I am going to go with the Solites 8. My feet always get cold. I have been wearing Rip Curl 7mm with a seal skin sock underneath. sometimes it's ok but most of the time my feet are the only thing getting cold on me.
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 3 ай бұрын
sup bud! def demo of you can!! I was confused when buying and look back def could have gotten something bigger and prolly would be having an easier time, but this one is still very workable, and in many ways I'm glad it's not too big. I think I didn't realize I'd be prolly upgrading in a hear or so, so I should have gone big to progress faster. The MAs are great, they def changed my style of riding last year. and about the 795... I could feel a difference and I came from a 72, that prolly flexed less than your 85. the rake angle I could also notice in the first sesh, maybe it was the conditions but I just felt like a few times where I would have grounded the nose it didn't. I know it's just one degree and should be barely noticeable, but I felt it. I'm no pro. I'm an OK amateur that's been doing this for a few years. so maybe I have enough experience to feel it, but if you've been on that 85 for a while, you'd most likely feel a difference. more noticeable on bigger foils. the biggest draw for me was I loved the more direct feeling of a 72 vs and 85, but I wished I had just a few more cm of length but shorter than an 85, so the 795 was the exact thing I was looking for. oh, and I feel the 795 is faster and less draggy. I didn't know the other masts felt draggy until I got this one. I'd never go back, that's just me. and get the 8mm Solites! you won't regret it. I wish you an awesome weekend!

Hey Jeromy. Just watched this video this morning. I actually ordered a DW board, ended up going with the Starboard Ace 7' 4 (120) definitely want to start riding waves with it on the no wind days. BTW; absolutely love the Armstrong foil. I ended up with the 1525 HA (A+) set up. made my first tack. I wish I went to Armstrong sooner. What size paddle were you using this day. And your board is 100L? I weight a little more than you but just curious.

Stoked for you dude! And the 1525! Awesome that’s working great. You may dig the 1125… the 925 was my go-to do it all foil but people who weigh more seem to say that about the 1125. Or dude, splurge and get something like the 880 or 980. The new ones are legit awesome. I’m 77kg and my board is 107L and feels fine for winging but slightly small for paddle ups. My paddle has a 94” blade, it’s an XL SprintX. I love it. I could prolly have gone with the large but soooo glad I didn’t do anything bigger.

I was convinced the 82 was too small. so I really dig the Sprint now, and I'm going to use it a bunch but I do really like catching waves on the smaller one. I'm glad I have both. I'm starting to get a quicker cadence paddling so I may end up using the smaller one more in the future cause you can definitely paddle fast with that one. @OCEANBOUND1 Jeremy, you live a parallel life to me. I've pretty much got the same gear, from BP paddle, DW board, Armstrong foils, right down to the worn out Solite boots, but without the skills and balance :D I'm starting out my DW journey and getting used to my board with my DIY foil assist. I've been planning to use my DW board for sup foiling in the waves. Do you find you have to constantly paddle to stay standing on the board? Or does it have the necessary buoyancy and stability to allow you to wait around like a normal surf SUP would? I'm pretty heavy at 100kg+ dry (I'm laying off the pies for sometime till I get below 90kg!) and my 121l board is quite tippy, but I think I am finding my balance on it for sure. But not sure what to expect when trying to catch waves. P.S I like the Solites, but they wore down real quick.
@OCEANBOUND1
@OCEANBOUND1 4 ай бұрын
hahah sup bro!! I too am a pie addict, my vice is apple pies :) you can totally SUP on these. my 107L is def on the small side (I'm around 77kg), but it is better at catching waves than my old JP 7'8 foil slate. I rode my friend's 135L Armstrong dw board recently and it was sooo much more stable, I could dance on it. but it was def slower to turn, not a huge deal. so we are pretty similar with the weight to board ratio once you get closer to 90kg. paddling an moving forward def helps. no wind is not really an issue, but adding wind and side shop can be really annoying. you can just kinda sit there in the lineup, using your paddle in the water for balance even if you aren't moving. honestly, staying upright on that thing is a challenge but doable. it's been activating all these muscles in my core and shoulders and I've been feeling these sessions for days after, in a good way. but I swear most f the soreness is just coming from me trying to balance. there isn't a lot of grace as you start... I feel like my upper body is going in all different directions as you work things out. def practice on flatwater. me and my 107L took a handful of sessions where I worked on paddling straight. you get that, then you need to working on doing that fast, and with better form. my grail is to paddle up on the flatwater and I'm damn close but I haven't even gotten that yet. btw the new Solites are beefier in all the right ways, easier to get on/off. hope this helps! I'm here if you have any other questions... LMK! I wish you an awesome day!
