Those boards looked fire for you. I think that's the real pleasure of this show. The reviews are great, but I've been watching you surf for what feels like years now. Its awesome to watch certain boards just light up your surfing, give you confidence and spark, because you cant translate that in a verbal review. That's the real benefit of being apart of this community!
@surfnshowreviews77774 жыл бұрын
Well said!!! Matt Biolos said to me one day.... "you surf every surfboard the same" I said don't we all? I might draw the same lines on every board..... but some boards like the Medina are on another level. Other boards that blow my mind this year are the Fishbeard, Driver 2.0, Pyzalien 2, and the Akila Aipa Winged Twin. These boards are on another level with "The Medina."
@zenfiretrading38484 жыл бұрын
@@surfnshowreviews7777 Yeah everyones mind draws their own lines, you cant change that. But what I'm talking about. I see huge differences in terms of confidence because I've gotten so used to watching you surf sooo much. If it was the same board all the time, probably not. But I've seen you surf boards that I could totally tell were not making you confident and then I've seen you on boards where you are totally frothing and letting everyone on the peak know whats up, because I know your surfing a packed place so your still playing the game of king of the hill. So when you get something that is fire under your feet, your letting everyone know where your loc dog spot in the line up is.

Happy to see Noel use the momentum of his platform and pivot toward some exciting new directions. Guys, the NVS fins are the real deal. I've been on a fin testing kick during Covid, and I bought all the futures and NVS models after being an FCS guy for a while. The construction is some of the best in the business. Comparing FCS and Future, here's what I have to say. Flick the tip of a future, no flex. Flick the tip of FCS, nice ping and good flex. Analyzing the base... Future is the stiffest base possible in a fin. FCS has a minimized base area, and more flex. Combining tip and base together - Future is double stiff with base and tip, FCS is double flex with base and tip. NVS futures is right in between, stiff base and a more performance flexed tip like FCS. The price point is unmatched. Being an FCS guy for the past decade, I'm noticing the outlines of NVS are in between. Their pivot fin is in between FCS Performers and Reactor. Their AM Comp is more rake, and less surface area. Cool to have some new templates, and have the opportunity to engineer anything you can think of. Excited to see what Noel + NVS come up with.

Cheers for the kind words and the folks at NVS are kind and easy to work with. I'm stoked they said yes to working with me on my fin designs. I took my concept to Futures first and they said my concept is solid and they had never done anything like it before but they were to busy. Then I heard about NVS from Dan Mann and reached out to them about doing a Collaboration together and they said yes. So pumped....

Just got my Medina model custom power roots today, Johnny killed it on the design! I’m a bigger guy at 230, but a very fit former division 1A college linebacker. That being said I have trouble finding shapers that can make a high performance board in the 40-41 liter range. This is one of the best jobs I’ve ever had anyone do for me. Hi Noel, that backside maneuver w/ PU looks like Medina doing it, i thought was the strongest and greatest maneuver i saw in this show. And now you put a doubt in my head: Pyzel Phantom or The Medina for a daily driver and which one is more forgiven? Thanks and congratulations for this review.
@cyberxdeth4 жыл бұрын
The Medina looks a little more forgiving in the smaller wave range where as id say the phantom looks more comfortable in bigger surf maybe just an opinion could be wrong so just depends on if you have bigger or smaller surf pyzel might work better in more hollow surf too the cabianca with the lower entry and overall rocker is probably a little more suited to a more sloped wave the phantom keeps the ghosts high rocker profile but offsets it with a good amount of single concave which I think is better suited for more powerful surf so there’s an opinion
@AndreLuisBonilha4 жыл бұрын
cyberxdeth i think the phantom has a med/low rocker and is for the same wave range and type then medina while the shadow has more rocker and would fix better bigger surf.

The Phantom paddles better and is best in 3-7' surf. This Medina model is good in 1-3' surf for high performance surfing and it can handle 5-6' surf pretty good too.

Just ordered a custom Medina model here in Brazil. I was btw Phantom, Pyzalien 2 and Medina for a 2-5 weak beach breaks, and with your video i decided with Cabianca. Looks like a board made for Brazilian weak beach breaks while Phantom and Pyzalien for more hawaiian good waves. Sharing for the guys who read, im 6.0 (182cm) and 175 lbs (78,5kg) and made a custom 510 - 19,75 - 2,38 (29,67L) PU Round tail. I choose PU and round because im looking for a more versatile board for windy and 2-5 days. I already have a CW Rocket Redux as a daily driver for 2-4ft that is unbeatable for my spot, and a CW Puddle Jumper as groveller for 1-2ft. But, if i dont have the Rocket, maybe i´d choose the Medina in eps and swallow tail. Noel, thanks one more time for your dedicated and awesome work with this reviews for our surf community.

I'm using Phantom 510, so is it meaningless to add Medina 510 to the quiver? Phantom 510 catches waves well, and it's comfortable, but it's a little big, so it feels like it's bounced off at a wave size above your shoulder. Based on 510, Phantom's buoyancy is 30.5 and Medina's is 27.5.

Best board reviewer in the world as usual. Which do you recommend for 1-3f beach break, Hydra or the Medina?
@surfnshowreviews77774 жыл бұрын
Jones icario Hydra for 1-2’ mush is faster and it will paddle better due to its low rocker. If you want high performance surfing in 1-6’ surf the Medina is unmatched at the moment for a Thruster. Let me say it this way.... if your looking for high performance small wave weapon the Medina would be my first choice for the WQS Tour.
@jonesicario29834 жыл бұрын
Surf n Show Reviews very interesting. The Medina fits inside the range of a HPSB, you could even say The Medina is a HPSB disguised as a small wave board. I was thinking about a Driver 2.0 or a Phantom to surf in 3-6f waves, but your comments and surfing made me think The Medina might suit this range even better with the round tail. Thank you for the tip.

I like my boards shorter and maneuverable everywhere I surf. I think the only places I would like a little longer rail line is HI, and maybe Frisco. Even if I am tube riding I like a shorter board for agility in the barrel.

Daniel Quadros Tough one... both boards are epic. If the beach break is hollow then I would P2. If the waves vary in power and hollowness then I would go Medina. Medina is a small wave performance board that surfs like a HPSB with way more speed. The BV2 has a bit of a hybrid outline… so it’s wider in the nose and it paddles better. If your looking for a fast 1-3’ board that really grovels then go BV2. If you like boards with more performance outline and razor sharp turns in smaller waves then go Medina

Another epic review! Funny - looks like you are surfing more like Medina than Slater when it gets bigger Comment on the fins - the MS-QDP - is that 1 x Quad Rear or 2 x Quad Rear? It wasn't clear to me - also they come up in the thruster set. I am gonna assume you can run them as a rear in a thruster? Also with the Keels are you going to make a small pair of rears so you can run them in a quad or is that not optimal? I think a really small pair of rear quads with keels would be sick - Are these the keels you had the video on the other day? I'm like 200lbs and I like more medium fins that are upright and have flex in the tip. So these sound like (once I get back to Oz) something I have to try ;)
@surfnshowreviews77774 жыл бұрын
Not sure I understand your questions on our Quad Rears. Our MS-QDP is one set of Quad Rears that have the Large fin Base with Medium fin depth. You can pair them with ANY set of side fins and they will go mental. Not sure about making a small set of Quad Rears to pair with our Keels.... I might have to try that. The Keels might offer to much hold as they have a lot of surface area but it might work. You just never know until you try..... right?

Rey Driver 2.0 is a legit HPSB and it has more rocker for more traction and tighter turns in the pocket. The Medina is a small wave board best in 1-5’ surf but I pushed it in 5’+ and it went great. Think of the Medina model as a Daily Driver / Step down from your HPSB

Hi Noel. I've bought a Medina, swallow tail, it will arrive in 4 weeks (Brasil) . I told Johnny your review helped a lot in my choice. Which Pyzel surfboard you suggest for 5-7ft beachbreaks, to quiver with The Medina? Ghost? Pyzalien? Thanks man!

Phantom or Pyzalien 2

hi Jerry, we ship worldwide from the Basque Country. Just send us an email.. thanks!
@basquecountrysurf4 жыл бұрын
@Big wave Dave shipping costs 130€ for boards until 6'2, but the good news is that customers ordering surfboards from outside the EU will pay a VAT-free export price equivalent to a 21% discount and in countries where we don't sell in any shops, we give an additional 10% discount. Ordering a performance in PU/Polyester board will cost you 586€ incl. the shipping.

@Big wave Dave 130€ but the good news is that we don't have to charge the spanish taxes when exporting out of the European Union, which equals a 21% discount. Check the "shipping" section on our website or send us an email.

You left out how great this board is for dropping in on another surfer, Medina's speciality. Medina lost all respect when you pulled that stunt in the comp.

@@surfnshowreviews7777 Sorry, the board looks great, I used to be a huge Medina fan, but that intentional drop in planned beforehand by him and his father left a bad taste in my mouth I just can't get over. This sort of behaviour is the last thing this sport needs to be rubber stamped for young upcoming surfers to emulate.

@@bellend4412 Surfing has a code, and dropping in and cutting someone off is not a part of that code. It was a dog act, premeditated and planned, he lost my respect and the respect of many others.

@@rmarlin Dropping in during a free surf is a dog act. A Pro dropping in on a Joe during a free surf is the doggest act of all. A pro dropping in on another pro during a contest, not great, but its a competitive format. Dog eat dog (punn intended).
