I’m new to this whole surge milker thing. A friend sold me her newly rebuilt surge milker and it works great, but I can’t seem to easily pull off the pulsator from the lid. Is there a trick I don’t know about? I was trying to get it off to wash out the lid after using it to milk my jersey heifer. Worked great! Just want to clean the lid properly.

It should. Twist a quarter to a half turn and lift off.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! for posting your videos! They are so helpful. I am new to the milker scene. I have milked by hand for years and my sweet husband bought me a used surge bucket milker. Everything looks great except it has not been used in about 6 years. I am in the process of rebuilding the pulsator. My question is, after I rebuild the pulsator do I need to take it to a dairy supply house to have it gauged?
@mommymilestones6 жыл бұрын
No. If you look on Hamby dairy supply web site they have original info on Babson Bros. for advertising use and care. It's nice info to read. My neighbors and I have never taken our equipment in. We have been milking for a few years and they since the 1940's both from hand and bucket milkers. It's a peaceful time once the cow is trained to stand still.

Yes it is! :) Thank you!!

Will the surge milker suck/work if one claw is broken? Can I just put three on the teats and let the fourth claw hang (or plug it?). And Hamby's doesn't seem to have the replaceable kits anymore. Where can I get that stuff? I live in Canada. Thanks a bunch!
@mommymilestones3 жыл бұрын
It will suck but loose some vacuum. When a cow has mastitis in 1 teat the milker claw is plugged with a stopper. What do mean broken? Need a new hose or liner? Hamby does have them. The pulsate could need cleaning as well.

where does one “put” the oil ? Very helpful will order a kit tomorrow. I just traded for a 1951 Babson Bros. and used it today. I had to manually move the piston to get it to make it pulsate, that was much easier on my old hands though

There are manuals online, I believe hambydairysupply has the original. Anyone one who wants to use one should at least read through them once.

Did removing the set screw for cleaning cause any problems? I've read on a few pages regarding pulsator cleaning and rebuilding that the main set screw port shouldn't be opened or changed. I've always wondered why they said that, but I see you removed and were cleaning it. So I'm curious if it caused any problems. You mention a cheat sheet you have, what is it called? How and where did you get it?
@mommymilestones4 жыл бұрын
Not at all. These are all so old and caked with oil that had I not cleaned all of it thoroughly I would have had to tear it all down a second time. In general, when using your milker you find the sweet spot for every adjustment over time.

@@mommymilestones OK, Thanks! I will do that next time I rebuild my pulsator. Where did you get the cheat sheet you mentioned? Is that a print out from Hamby Dairy's Surge pulsator page. I've seen a small pic there of a diagram with a pulsator repair tools kit but have never been able to find it in a clear easy to read format. I really wish I could find an old-timer that repaired these back in the day to ask questions of and find out about their tools and procedures manuals etc. Any idea where one would find that?

The trouble is the old timers have foregotten, are gone, or swear by their new million dollar parlor. I found a lot of info from Hamby dairy supply. Here's a link I found very useful spiritedrose.wordpress.com/jersey-cattle/how-to-produce-quality-milk/diy-rebuild-a-surge-pulsator/ ( I cant remeber if I got my cheap sheet here or Hamby)

Black liners are the industry standard. You can tell by looking at and feeling the udder.

what size tubes does the surge milker use?
@mommymilestones7 жыл бұрын
Im not sure which tubes you mean so I will defer the question to Hamby Dairy Supply. They have a complete section on Surge and bucket milkers with links to other resources suck as original Babson Brothers marketing and instructions. Im guessing you might be asking about the tubes that run from the pulsator to the lid?

I watched your ant killer video. I use sugar, borax, and a small amount of hand soap. Mix to a liquid. Works good too, also somehow you made ant killing sexy. Lol ;)

the camera angle blocks the entire section where you are putting together those cylinder things. It's also dark and you can't see where the washer with 3 holes is supposed to go. Your hands are blocking the whole time on every one of them. Pretty much the entire put back together part is blocked. Help.
