The way I see it, if it doesn't provide power during an outage, it's worthless/useless. AVR's are a scam because they don't provide power during an outage. A UPS is just better cause it has a battery and a built in AVR anyway. Might as well cough up the extra money and buy a UPS. I use 650 watts UPS and I can keep doing what I want during a power outage and buys me time to properly shut down my computer rather than have it just abruptly turned off.

AVR is not a scam it's there to regulate voltage to avoid spike or voltage drop it helps to prolong the life expectancy of a computer, but I do agree that UPS is better since it has a battery to help a proper shutdown but if your place don't usually or rarely have power outage and you only use your pc to play games and not work then AVR will work as long as your game have auto save.
