This is one of my favorite Pedro Almodóvar movies. Actually there are so many of his films that are magnificent; entertaining with so many twists and attempts to humanize those we deem with flaws. Movies that offer an in-depth character analysis. I have seen "La piel que habito/The Skin I Live In" countless times and never grow tired of it. I just found out it is based on the translated from French to English book Tarantula by Thierry Jonquet which now I intend to read and compare to the film. It is a very well made movie with many twists that pose many questions about morality, human nature and the human psyche, the decisions we make that have a ripple effect, and ultimately why you should excel, achieve, create, discover but within normal limits that take into consideration morality and the overall benefit to humanity (no I did not drink the red Kool-Aid). On a different note, the band playing in the wedding scene is real life singer Concha Buika, the daughter of African parents who was raised in Spain. Her voice is powerful and beautiful! A very talented singer. I recommend her music. Everyone take care. (Note: you don't have to agree with me but let's go back to having polite disagreements and discussions.)

This is an interesting movie concept in that it's a subversion of the whole "revenge porn" trope; you think that the man turned into a girl deserves it because you think he raped the doctor's daughter and caused her to go insane and end herself, so the doctor is just giving him/her their comeuppance. However, that isn't the case at all, the doctor being traumatized was the doctor's own fault, for hiding his wife away in an incredible vulnerable and pained state, keeping her on the dark about her condition until finally she snapped and ended herself accidentally in front of her own daughter. The "rapist", while not innocent, never raped the daughter, he wasn't supposed to be at the party and it was initially consensual, and it wasn't the sex that triggered the daughter's PTSD, but the music the band was playing. The man is not innocent since he panicked, trying to silence her and then hitting her when she bit him, but his actions were not entirely unreasonable, but again not innocent. The doctor decided he was going to get revenge by his own hand goes to gross, vile lengths in his mad scientist vigilante justice and honestly gets what's coming to him, he's killed, and the only person he trusted in the world is killed because of him.

Vincent really isn’t at fault either besides hitting Norma unconscious. I know this video implies he raped her, but if you watch the full movie you’d know what really happens and he really isn’t a bad guy. Long story short, there was a bunch of miscommunication and Norma was ok with the sex at first before she gets triggered from the same song that played while her mom jumped out a window… Caused her trauma to relapse and Vincent stopped and tried to calm her down, but then she bit him as she wasn’t in the right state of mind. That’s why he slapped her hard enough to knock her unconscious. Still wasn’t right of him as he could’ve handled the situation better, but then you remove was stoned AF and wasn’t really in the right state of mind either. Neither is the mom really at fault, she tried to leave the doctor, but he wouldn’t let her.
