On YT videos, I've been surprised how often people fly solo when assembling equipment so those features are sure to be popular. Great ideas. Great video, as they always are!

11:18 So you're also saying it pays to be in the basement?
@TheKurtlocker2 жыл бұрын
I’m saying that it less expensive for a smaller rack. Saving money is finding money Finding money is an additional payday Therefore having a basement gym with a surplus ARC rack is an additional payday

@@TheKurtlocker some good American HG products that work well for me (just a few of many) are the rogue row triangle, belt fed strength belts and all his products actually, kleva full jack, marts bar, prime 4in1. Just some future video ideas..
@TheKurtlocker2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I’ve already done a video on Beltfed strength. My Kleva jack is inbound. I have a Marrs bar I’m gonna get in my space as well soon.

Solid review as always. I have seen these in a 6 post before they hit powder coating. I love my red and black but these would look awesome in a clear grind as well
@TheKurtlocker2 жыл бұрын
That clear grind is popular and would look awesome but likely jack that price up a ton. I think bridgebuilt when I hear clear coat

I love the rack and the welded nuts are a really cool design for sure. One small thing I worry about with them is I know that Rogue’s cross members have oblong holes that let them slide a little up and down while putting the rack together. This can help you get a square rack on a slightly sloped floor. My guess is the welded nuts would make that impossible without shims. Definitely not an issue for everybody.
@TheKurtlocker2 жыл бұрын
That is actually a really good point that I hadn’t considered. I was also unaware that rogue did oblong holes.
@levigallian3808 Жыл бұрын
But getting a square rack isn’t that beneficial if your feet are still planted on a slope while you’re lifting.
@fwiffo42 Жыл бұрын
@@levigallian3808 my garage slopes down slightly towards the door. I have the front of the rack facing the door so I’m always pointed “down hill” for squats and my bench is “up hill” for benching in the rack. That works fine as the slope isn’t big and I don’t have my legs such that one is higher than the other. Ideally, you’d level your space either permanently or by putting a sloped subfloor under your stall matts. Like I said, it’s a small thing and may not be an issue for most people.

As usual, fantastic job hitting the details. I’ve gotten a number of stray dog items after watching your reviews and when it’s time for a new rack I will probably go Surplus since I do a lot of assembly myself.

The surplus rack won’t let you down. Use code “Kurtlocker” when you do for a discount.

Another great review, thanks Kurt. Glad to see another American made rack company. Is there any additional customization items outside the colors they list on their website? (Like a clear coat for example)

Anything is possible with Surplus. You just have to prearrange before you buy

Great review. How does this rack compare to a Stray Dog rack? Specifically build and finish quality. Thanks
@TheKurtlocker2 жыл бұрын
The straydog rack only has numbered holes on one side and doesn’t not always have numbered holes on all uprights. Additionally straydog has inline holes. Powdercoat and welds are very clean on both brands. The foot design is different on straydog racks as well and is smaller but still effective.

You explained the benefits of the @surplusstrength rack concerning assembly very well. You'd like to think you'd never move your power rack, but in a home gym, people adjust or move it often enougj that over a lifetime, I think those features really do set this rack apart. As a home gym owner with an RML-490, I find myself in a sinilar situation to what you described of your experience! Haha

Once you go to a 1” hole rack you’ll wonder why you waited so long!

Honestly, that’s fair pricing. You mentioned veteran owned, does that apply to them? 🇺🇸

Yes. Jason is an Army veteran. With code Kurtlocker it’s actually same pricing as rogue if not cheaper sometimes.

Do you think the powder coat will rust? I hate how the rogue powder coat rusts.

I don’t think it would but I guess oxidation could form if there was a gouge in the paint or maybe if you’re in an exceptionally salty-air area

Hell yes! A worthy upgrade for your space. That Tennessee pride is awesome as well and definitely something I’ve noticed with him and Beltfed Strength
@jamestonbellajo Жыл бұрын
@@TheKurtlocker is it really a big upgrade? I don’t have a PR-5000 but the community and REP affiliates talk about it like it’s the second coming of God and the Ares release has really blown it up even more.
@TheKurtlocker Жыл бұрын
Big?…maybe not, but if it’s inline with your values, worthy. I’ll argue that REP didn’t actually innovate that space with the weight stack inclusivity on power racks. Stray Dog Strength, an American owned & manufactured, small business has been making those for a long time. They’re called ATR units. I have no beef with rep. They make pretty awesome and affordable pieces but is it color customizable? Does it come with a customizable header? Is it American made? Support American manufacturing? These are what attract me, but I understand that’s a personal choice.
@jamestonbellajo Жыл бұрын
@@TheKurtlocker for sure. My beef with Rep is on and off hahaha but I completely agree with you. And I remember seeing Stray Dog’s ATR line a few years ago and was shocked how genius and simple it was. Also surprised Rogue never did anything like that then and even now. Was that a close second for you? Would love to one day get a comparison of that system (since you’ve used it and showed it during your HQ tour) vs. Surplus Strength + UPS combo. I know you can use the UPS with any rack but a system to system showdown would be a great video.

I actually have a Stray Dog ATR video planned. Stay tuned.
