This was such an obvious force. During chat he set the counter to 89XX…then proceeded to increment the XX normally with Alison but then flipped the counter (he is holding it upside down when he is showing it to the audience) so the first two digits are to the right and upside down show as XX68, while he is obstructing the left side (the XX) with his finger -that was the part that Allison was incrementing.

Not sure if you’ve tweaked your trick, but another thing you can do to make it less obvious is when you spin the transparency to reveal a match, show that if you had spun the transparency the other way, it reveals another set of numbers. So you can start by having an audience member say left or right without knowing why. Then force the number on them and then rotate it the direction they picked. But basically say “if you had said the other direction, it wouldn’t have worked.”

If you counted the clicks after he reset you would of figured out he came nowhere near 68. You will notice he covered two numbers on the dial. Both P&T both wrote notes as soon as that was revealed. I think it could have been cool to finish the drawing of the lines at the end so it looks like you're adapting it to the random number picked ("lets add lines to reach 68", boom magic square). Idk if the "fast math part" go well with the prediction part that give away the force. Indeed the only way the prediction works (not hidden not modified) is a force and even if it was very cool, it weakens the first part imo. I think doing only the 2nd effect with the FOOL US one you skipped would have been stronger. Random opinion and you prob though about it before, but the show was great.
@MikeWallaceDev

@@RealGaIaxy Magic is whatever the audience doesn't understand. There are many ways to create magic, and math is one of those ways. That's what the act was about : math magic. You don't think that P&T don't know what a "magic square" is, right? However, in this act he didn't even do math! He just remembered a predetermined square. I have to say, the more I think about this act, the less I like it.
@moonlitegram
@moonlitegram 2 жыл бұрын
@@MikeWallaceDev I get what you're saying, and that might be true of some people, but I also think what Galaxy said holds true for a lot of people as well. Part of the appeal of magic for a lot of people is getting the feeling of being mystified and not just being impressed by something. The ability to do really fast math is definitely impressive in its own right, but its not the same as being baffled by something. Because while most people can't do fast math like that, they can at least concieve of that being a skill by some people who are very good at math. So you end up thinking "oh cool, he's really good at math" no "what?? How did he do that??". It leaves you with no questions at the end to think about and no feeling of "the impossible" just happened. So I do think the end of his trick does make this a better magic trick overall for the a lot of viewers. And on that note, to the OP's point: I don't think that every person is going to sit there thinking "oh he obviously did a force there". There's a lot of people that have probably never even heard of that term because they're people that just watch magic for fun and don't look up a bunch of stuff about it online. I mean, maybe because of the nature of the show, a lot of people watching this specific show might be inclined to think like that. But at this guys regular gigs, he probably entertains a bunch of people with this trick, because they're not people that sit there and break tricks down in their mind via standard ways tricks are accomplished. They're not even aware of basic methods in magic. They're just people looking to be entertained.

Nathaniel, sometimes less is more. I would be much more impressed if I thoght it was really a random number and you came up with the 16 numbers in your head. Having the second part with the whole suqare predicted made it clear the number was forced. Which in mymkind makes the trick lees cool

I've never agreed with the idea that knowing the trick spoils the magic. The effect of any magic trick has its own charm, even if you know how it's done. What I like most, though, is the quarter turn. That would make for some great D&D handout puzzles.

Honestly doing the mental math would have been cooler, but since you were memorising the square anyway you could have taken say 15-20 from the 48 and spread it through the bottom row and applied it through the square to make it look a little less formulaic. You have 1-12 and then jump to 47 which if you're doing the math on the fly is understandable because you only need to substitute one set of numbers.

Obviously everyone figured out how the force was done. Covering half the numbers with your thumb made it too obvious. Even fiddling with it to show how you can “reset” the numbers looked awkward on camera. Perhaps you can do a force picking cards and it wouldn’t be so obvious to non-magicians. Have someone (or two people) pick the 6 and then the 8.

Or… let it be a freely chosen number between 20 and 80, and learn how to create magic squares on the fly… there are tutorials online, and doesn’t look hard to do once you memorize the formula. It would be more impressive to those people that have not seen it done before. It’s more of a math trick than a magic trick, though. Why not try to come up with something more original? You were not the first person to do the magic square on Fool Us.

Unfortunately there's no other way this could have been done than a force which makes it a trick P&T would never actually miss, especially when you cover the other two numbers. The quick math is definitely possible, but as soon as you turn the "prediction" over it just gives it away that the clicker had a force in it, which was already pointed out by others.

68 was forced.. He set the number to 8888 (using the knob on the side.. Ran a few clicks before allyson said, "Stop" which brought him to 89XX.. When he showed the number, his device was upside down.. The clicker was on the bottom which was originally on top.. 89XX became XX68.. He covered two digits and the show goes on..

They were super, no, ultra, no... hyper nice to you dude. The rotating ending may be a fun ending for the VERY well known grid thing, but ultimately it tells the viewer that the random number wasn't at all a random number. Ergo, writing up all the numbers on the left becomes a simple quick memory game for you instead of performing the actual trick, which let's one construct their very own number grid on the fly, with a truly random number. You essentially didn't perform magic of any sort.

most clikers have a reset to 0 , all he would need to do is rotate the positions for 'Zero' to show 68 and after clicking x number of times, he jsut resets it, which would force it to land on 68 everytime

I don't know if it was really a slip of the tongue, per se. I mean, it was a counter that was XXXX and counted up on the right side (0001,0002,0003,0004). It's not unreasonable to identify the two right most numbers as the "first two". Perhaps, he could've referred to them as the 2 right most numbers instead. That would alleviate any confusion about whether that's some kind of Freudian slip.

At least in the beginning it was impressive how he did all the math in his head on the fly. Still wouldn't count as magic, just incredible math skills but turns but that was until he flipped the other board. Then it was not only NOT magic, it was NOT math either. Probably the worst trick I've seen on this show.
