The curse put on Angel is a fiendishly literal copy from the story of Faust. Faust offers his soul to Mephistopheles (the devil) in exchange for "one moment of perfect contentment." Prophetic slayer dreams were mentioned in 1x01 (Welcome to the Hellmouth) by Giles when Buffy and he talked in the Bronze. In 1x07 (Angel) Angel talked of killing a Romani (Gipsy) girl and their vengeance, the curse that gave Angel his soul. I liked your comment about dreams being random and not always making sense with French-speaking Willow and the monkey but rewatching it I felt like the writers were making a reference to “What’s my line Pt.2” at the end when Willow is thanking Oz for taking a bullet for her and he starts talking about the monkey cookie. He mentions that it has a little hat and pants(a shirt here) and gives it a French accent. Willow asks “The monkey is French” to which Oz responds, “All monkeys are French.” Lol, I may be reaching and it’s actually random but I couldn’t help noticing that. I always think that I'm past crying over certain episodes of this show after seeing them so many times, then I still cry like a baby 😅 Buffy's "was it me? Was I not good?" is so heartbreaking to me. Playing on the episode title of "innocence" we're really reminded there how young and lacking experience (in life) Buffy is, even though she has matured much in other ways. I think especially for women it's easy to feel for Buffy and relate to how momentous that first time is supposed to be from this hyped up and glamorized view of it we were fed, when really it's so scary and vulnerable and often changes your relationship after (not to mention it's usually not even that romantic lol.) Also, I feel like we really start to see Giles' affection for Buffy these episodes, as you mentioned. Between him insisting she still gets a surprise party, and him reassuring her he supports her in the car... 🥺 I felt so bad in the beginning as you talked about your Grandma, while knowing you were about to enter a sad story arc. I'm so sorry to hear that. Hoping the treatments go well for her and for strength and peace of mind for you all as she fights this 💕

In episode 12 Bad eggs you were wondering if you had missed something that pushed the plot forward in the episode; well not exactly, but Bad eggs is an episode all about the consequences of sex...! And there's an important scene in it where Buffy and Angel kiss in the cemetery while talking about their doomed relationship and at the end of the scene, the camera pans to a gravestone that reads "In loving memory" (referencing their relationship about to disintegrate in the next 2 episodes). So while Bad eggs isn't the most interesting episode in and of itself, it still has very subtle and exciting foreshadowing. I think you didn't really "get" the significance of episode 14 bc you were confused about certain plot points like the uncle & Jenny and their possible involvement with Spike & Dru, but mostly because I think you were fully expecting this to be a one episode kind of deal, almost like a monster of the week thing?! It's certainly weird because I think the episode gives you all the clues you need to understand that this is a huge deal *for the show* (and not only for Buffy!), meaning that it's a turning point and not something that's easily gonna be reversed. I mean there's even a cliffhanger at the end of episode 13 and everything 😂 Basically this two parter is what the whole season has been leading to, in more or less subtle ways, for example, as I explained, in Bad eggs. So yeah, I fully expect Innocence to hit a lot more on a rewatch for you.

The end of 2x14 is enough to just bring on the ugly cry. 😭 The reveal to Willow about Xander and Cordelia is equal parts hilarious and agony. Aly is so good at making us feel for her when she's this vulnerable. A funny part that I noticed that I hadn't before was when Buffy questioned if Drusilla could be alive because "we never saw her body". So she can't or doesn't cook for the family, but I think that's all we know about Xander's home life so far. 23:50 The Judge killed most of an army before he was dismembered so even if he had a pipe organ dropped on him like Spike I do not think it would confine the Judge to a wheelchair. The TV dropped on him stopped immediate pursuit but did little else, I'm sure. 35:06 Willow gets it immediately, just because she's book-smart it doesn't mean she's not intuitive. 38:07 Yes Oz is perfect, and he's perfect for Willow. Regarding Slayer's Prophetic dreams, in the first scene after the opening of "Welcome to the Hellmouth", Buffy had a Prophetic dreams sequence that materialized throughout season one, where she dreamed of: - The Master (before ever seen him). Also his rising. - The harvest. - Hellmouth Spawn (creature that appeared in "prophecy Girl" ). - Giles's Vampire book. (shown to her by Giles in the first library scene) - Angels's cross necklace (which he gifted her later in the the episode). - Moloch the Corruptor. (Big bad of " I, Robot, You Jane "). - Brotherhood of Seven (last of them appeared as Marc in "The Puppet Show "). Also, in "Nightmares" , she dreamed of the Master choking her and later killing her when she was experiencing Billy's nightmares. In S02E01 "When She was Bad", despite being dead, she dreamed of the Master choking her foreshadowing his attempted resurrection, planned by Colin and company. Then as we know in this episode "Surprise" we seen her dreaming of a healthy and fully restored Drusilla, Angel being killed (aka losing his soul), and Joyce asking her if she's ready. And in the following episode " Innocent", she dreamed of Jenny uncovering her face from behind a veil. That's it for today. Any mention of the dreams in upcoming episodes considered a grove spoiler.

I'm loving the Buffy series in particular, as it is my favorite show of all time and can't wait for you to continue watching.

Hey Cass, I'm in a similar boat as you are, but with my Dad. I don't know if anything really helps in this situation, but do hope for the best possible outcome for you and your family. Thank you for giving me something to look forward to whenever you are able to put out these reactions.

"What is that?" It is an infantry weapon of the era called a LAWS, which is the acronym for Light Anti-tank Weapon System.

Yep, it is an RPG, not that dissimilar to the more well-known Russian made RPG-7

Word of advice: if you, watching Buffy, think you know how something is going to end - think again. Please keep making predictions though. That's really entertaining, and I hope you won't be offended; I don't think it's possible for the first time viewer to get even a half of what the future holds correctly.

I'm so sorry about your grandma. My dad had also been diagnosed several years ago with stage 4 lung cancer. It's really difficult to watch a loved one go through that. Take the time when you need it. Your grandma is most important.

Jennie Calendar is part of the gypsy tribe that cursed Angelus. He tortured and killed one of thier princesses and they cursed him, restoring his soul (and thus conscious) so that Angel will be forever tortured by the evil deeds of Angelus. The curse is broken if Angel experiences one momemt of true happiness / contentment, a moment where he is not tortured by his past.

I agree completely, so it is important to remember that it is not the sex act itself which lifts the curse but rather the peace and contentment he feels being wih the one he loves so deeply.

@@davidschmidt1884 spoiler below .. .. .. .. .. I was going to point that out, but chose not to, since both the Buffy and Angel series treat it differently {at least on the surface - saying that it was the act that did it) up until 2/3rd of the way through Angel Season 2.

You're gonna need at least 3ish more seasons before you can accurately try to predict Whedon, Minear and Espinson plot lines.

"I feel like that relationship's just a ticking ... it's not ideal for long term is it? ... It's been a good couple of episodes where they've been honeymooning it up so it's bound to take a turn soon." Welp, you're not wrong.

Sending positive vibes your way SURPRISE There's some hints at Buffy's dreams being prophetic but it's talked more about in the movie (though to be fair, Buffy also had period cramps to warn her there were vampires around, I'm glad they never bought that up again). Xanders family stuff is kind of tragic & we get a hint at it here. I feel like Giles growth is because Buffy died last season and he got connected. The actor playing The Judge is Brian Thompson who played Luke in the first episode (the vessel for The Master) INNOCENCE Here's where the series really begins to add mythology. Cordelia is still acting like this because she knows Xander doesn't care for her enough to bring those walls down. Willow certainly needed this because while she likes Oz, Xander is the one that got away (even though technically she never had him). Buffy is too mature for a 17 year old, she knows more than she should but at the end she's still 17 with inexperience in the relationship world so her reacting the way she is is understandable and realistic. You can't really give a vampire like Angelus true misery because he doesn't care about anything.

Hi! I'm silent usually but I wanted to let a comment today. I discovered your Channel recently and I love your reactions to BTVS. I wanted to tell you that I grew up as an adult with that TV show and at multiple times Buffy was a source of inspiration for her courage, her strengh, and her resilience. The episodes are going to be more and more interesting and deep. So I think it's a good time for you maybe to watch that TV show in a dark time like this. I hope you will find the same inspiration that I found. Meanwhile I send you a lot of strengh, good vibes and whatever you need PS : I Hope I didn't write too many mistakes, I'm french!
