Surprises for first time Honda Civic Type R owners

This is my first Type R and I have owned many Hondas but there were many things I didn't expect when getting the Type R. These are the top things that surprised me after getting the car.

Did a 350 mile road trip and agree that the tires are loud on certain types of pavement. I would trade a little bit of weight for improved sound insulation. Highway mileage for me was close to 30 mpg, which is decent. However, the small tank is annoying, it would be better with a few more gallons of capacity.

Wait wut? You went in and paid $50k+ for a wide body civic, aero, brembo brakes, lsd, racing bucket seats, turbo 4 cylinder that makes 300+ hp and at the end of the day you thought you were buying a regular Honda? How does that make sense? Did you do any research at all before buying this car?

You've gotta remember you've got 9.5 wide wheels thems some thickums. Love my type R. I came from a 2016 vw jetta gli and the cars are night and day. I hear so many reviewers talk about this and that on the car and I'm like compared to what. It's a car drive it enjoy it they were made to be driven.

I own an FL5 myself. I've been somewhat concerned with the OEM Tires and I've got a few friends that have already popped their FL5 tires to the simplest things on the road. Looking at possibly switching out to 18" wheels and going 265/35/18 for my sanity's sake. I am kind of scared to take this thing on any drive longer than 50 miles. I have a feeling this car will forever be a local drive only. Great video as always!

I’ve done about 10 drives all over 200 miles. Road side assistance and tire protection package give me a peace of mind for trips.

This is cap! I've been driving a FK8 with oem 20 inch wheels for almost 4 years on bad roads. Tires haven't "popped"

What did you do when the tire was ruined? Use the sealant kit?

no the whole tire was shredded on the inside and the rim was bent. Thankfully new hondas come with complimentary roadside assistance and I had the wheel and tire protection package. Car was towed to a Honda dealer for free and then the rim and tire were replaced for free. I buy the rim and tire protection package on every car I get and I have had to use it on every car. saved me thousands over the years.
