Surprisingly Cheap Hitbox Style Controller - HautePad Plus G16 Review

Hey great review, just wanted to add @5:00 any 24mm cap that goes onto a cherry style stem should work, you can find replacement caps online for very cheap or if you have something like gamer finger buttons laying around the caps will work from that too

For PS5 compatibility you can use the magicboot dongle in the adapter port on the controller, that's what that port is for

Really great video, very informative, I have been using the gp2040 , and It work on PS4 out of the box, with games that support legacy mode, also as mentioned by someone else in the reviews, the Brooks fgc converter will allow you to use it on PS5,

Great little "snackbox". When I got mine I regretted not getting the T16 but, if I had gotten the T16, I would've regretted not having a "snackbox" for travel. Here's my advice: If you don't have a full-sized "hitbox" already, you might be better off with one of their larger models (especially if you're just learning leverless). There are good reasons to own a smaller controller but, make sure that they apply to you.

The USB A slot addons is for adapters. It works on PS5 with a mayflash adapter or you can use a wingman fgc adapter.

I have S16 and i got cuople of different Hitboxes and aracade sticks(Branded and custom ones). Tbh this is like super steal, you get option to put any mechanical switches inside, for refference any Arcade stick, or hitbox buttons cost like 60$ to 80$ for a set, likeCROWN Mechanical switches and Gamer Fingers that use mechanical ones and you can only swtich them on Gamer Finger with possibility of breaking them completely. Also GP2040 is the fastest PCB, you get 0.76ms of input lag compared to like Hori premium sticks that run 4,5ms at most. Downside is that you need dongle converter for consoles like PS5 and XbX/S.

Got this while waiting for my Fightbox to arrive. It's cheap but doesn't feel like it. Actually very satisfied with it. The only problem I experienced are keycaps popping out. Maybe changing the keycaps fixes that. They also have a discord where you can ask help and software upgrades are available. Recommended for leverless newbies like me

MX stems aren't perfectly symmetrical, meaning you can get a slightly tighter fit by just rotating any loose caps by 90 degrees. If that doesn't help, I messaged them on Aliexpress and they sent me a new set of caps for free that they said will fit better. I put them on and they do feel quite a bit tighter and I haven't had them pop out on their own so far.

If you got basic version of FightBox, you will get 15ms input lag. This GP2040 PCBs are fastest on the market 0.76ms, even faster than Brook UFB. If you want to play on PS5 just get Brook Wingman FGC dongle.

@Phasmastic I only play on pc. Its amazing for kbd on Tekken 8. Since getting the Haute I have acquired 2 more leverless and i find the mechanical switches better than Sanwa buttons.

I appreciate this review. I was looking at this controller specifically for it's layout and possible PS5 compatibility for my local that uses PS5s. I have a generic Chinese all button pad (FightBox) with my own custom layout they made for me at extra cost, so I'll have to figure out what Brooks converter I need in order to use it with PS5. You just saved me from buying this because I was almost ready to pull the trigger.

I love this, I also got the larger T16 version but prefer the smaller G series because the switches feel better.

Prefer the T16 version myself, you can get some cheap mini wrist rests designed for mouse usage, to make it super comfy. Amazon UK, I got two for £5, which is like a little over $6 , and stuff in the US tends to be cheaper anyway. Switches between the two feel identical for me, but I don't doubt there's going to be some variance for such a cheap product. Plan to replace the switches at some point with some spare G Pro Yellows I got lying around from an keyboard build.

@@DizY_8 T 16 only takes low profile kailh chock v2 switches. The pinout is different from the standard keyboard switch. The G16 uses standard keyboard switches.

It is worth highlighting something about the PS4 mode Normally, the control would stop working after 8 minutes, it is possible to overcome this problem by inserting some required files with the GP2040-CE web configurator (Of course, no one close to that project will pass those files, you must have it or a user must pass them)

The hardware boot button is only for situations when you accidentally brick your configurable buttons and you can no longer select the boot mode with the software defined keys at the front. I really like this stick (pad). I'm not sure about latency but it feels decent. I'd love there to be 1cm to 1 inch between the directional buttons and the other buttons (I have large hands)

Just use Magic boots for PS5 and turn on the passthrough on the settings, disable PS4. You either chose if you want it for PS4 or PS5, it can't work simultaneously

just get 2 stiff 1/2" thick sheets of foam, both about the size of a piece of paper... cut out a hitbox sized hole in one, glue them together, and cram the hitbox in it.

Keep in mind that PS5 will have input delay on all 3rd party controllers (like this one). You'll have to buy some another USB gizmo to have no delay with this.

Never bought something like this, Amazon doesnt show that this is xbox x/s compatible and does it work out of the box without any set up? I don't have a pc. Does anyone know if it is?

You will need an additional dongle for Xbox Series X/S and probably a firmware update. The dongle you need is either a Mayflash Magicboots for Xbox or a Magic-X. Since you don't have a PC, it's probably not worth it because you need one to update the firmware as far as I'm aware.
