So true, like its a normal fear for young girls to fear intimacy because of how society veiws it, like nobady wants to be forced. This is the only one of the three movies that I enjoyed. The best part was definitely the cast! Loved Shailene Woodley, Theo James, and Kate Winslet in their respective roles. I just fell so in love with the books that I expected so much out of the movies..and sad to say, the rest of the films did not live up to my expectations. If y'all do get the chance, please try reading the books! You won't regret it.
@erickknutz55992 жыл бұрын
I have to agree. There seemed to be some real meat to the concepts in the next movie, but they seemed more lost on exactly how to tell the story, it just fell flat. Real shame too, I went into it never even hearing of any books, and seeing the movie on release in theaters and being blown away... way past the very low expectation going in (was dragged to the show by a friend). The second movie could have cemented this as a timeless classic, much like Star Wars IV-VI and Hunger Games. But something went very wrong, sorta like the same thing that happened with Maze Runner. Not sure what causes it to happen, but alas we all noticed the result.

Here's a story about heights for you guys - My father was a blaster for construction projects, and he had no fear of heights at all.... I mean, this man would nap in the girders under the bridges he would work on. One time, he was helping to take down a building. He was sitting on the edge of the building with his legs dangling, eating and watching the girls in the park below. Perfectly content. He felt eyes on him, and turned to see a few cops and his boss (I think)! "It's ok son, we can talk about this..."! It turned out that an old lady in a building across the street saw him, and got the wrong impression! He was just chilling and having lunch, though....

I literally started doing a re-read of this series yesterday. Yes, the books are better than the movies and explain some of the things you have questions about. It breaks down the factions a lot more so you can relate to motives a lot better. Tris and Four's relationship is also portrayed on a deeper level. You also understand Tris a lot more, which I think is important considering part of the entire overarching plot is her making decisions outside of the norm, of what people expect. There's an entire different feel to the story when reading the books. I can only highly recommend you read them! Also, there is a fourth Divergent book called Four, which includes his perspective during Divergent! What a coincidence you dropped this video! Glad you guys enjoyed the movie.

THANK YOU FOR WATCHING THIS!!! I’ve read the books and watched the movies more than ## times, so now it’s your TRIVIA TIME! 1) Kids take the test when you are 16, not 18. It’s never mentioned in the books but if Beatrice and Caleb were taking the test on the same year, they have to be twins. It’s just never discussed. 2) Kate Winslet had a BLAST making this film. She is always in dramas… or dramas…. She said she had so much fun playing a villain, which she’s never gets to do. 3) Kate Winslet was five months pregnant when she made this film. If you notice, they always put books or notebooks or something for her to hold to hide the pregnancy. 4) Theo James 🤤 is an amazing British actor. He was Downton Abbey and other things like that. 5) To make Four’s tattoo in his back (for Tris to see,) it took Six different pieces for each part of the tattoo. The curves of a human body will not allow THAT tattoo to be made in one piece. It took 3 hours for the artists to get them all on his back. 6) Shailene and Miles are extremely great friends, even before they worked together (he got the job because she wanted him in that role.) They had so much trouble with the fight scene in the ring. They rehearsed it but they kept cracking up and laughing. Miles was truly afraid he might hurt her and she, him. It got blocked. They had it down but nerves were getting in the way at filming. So when Tris does the throat punch to Peter, she actually made strong contact by accident. So, the sound you hear Miles make is real. She got him good!! They had to stop filming to make sure he was ok and to let Shailene get over being upset for hurting her friend. 7) Ashley Judd’s character “mom”, was not Divergent. She was raised in Dauntless and defected at her choosing ceremony. So, when she tells Beatrice that “I love you, no matter what,” that was a way of saying it’s ok if you choose a different faction. 8) Tris was not afraid of fire. She paid it no mind the first time she went into her fear scape. She just looked at it. Her fear was of the flock of birds and the second was her fear of being bound or stuck to where she can’t move or go anywhere. In her real final fear factor, she runs to the fire, fights off that British band “A Flock of Seagulls” with a branch and then is bound. Burns rope with fire! 9) You were more right in your reactions than you know when Tris and Four touch one another. When she is punching the bag and Four said, “You’re weak. Use your core body strength,” she shivers and likes the feel of his touch. When she is climbing up the Ferris wheel and a rung breaks, he grabs her waist… and he likes it. When Four has a fear of confinement, in the book the space is getting smaller and is thinking in his mind, “I love touching her.” As the space gets smaller, she is like in his lap! In the film he says, “Take your time, I’m really enjoying myself in here.” These examples are the closest the film could get to the book and keep their rating stay the same. I have much more but this enough for you right now. 🙃 Mr. Oak, I can climb as high as things can go, I have no fear. BUT once I realize I have to get down, that’s when I am in “Oh, shit!” Mode. To answer your question… 50/50. LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEXT ONE!!! Great reactions! I was afraid y’all were going to bomb it.

Tris and Caleb aren't twins, they are I believe like 10 months apart also known as Irish Twins. That's how they are able to do the choosing together. But you are right, it starts at 16 not 18 in the book. But I think in the movie they are actually 18 years old. Another thing is that Kate also didn't want a big fancy trailer. She wanted to have the same size as everyone else plus when Four grabs her, he wasn't supposed to grab her that hard where she almost falls, he felt sorry that happened because of her being pregnant. Shailene and Miles has done a movie together before they did this one, thats how they became friends. Here are Tris's fears. 1. crows in field 2.water tank 3.body of water and rocks 4.being burned at the stake 5.men taking her 6. Tobias and intimacy (She ends up losing this one after she gets together with him.) 7.killing her family

@@janeandle Thanks for the additional information!! I love learning new things. I had to assume Tris and Caleb were twins because they took the test the same year. The only thing mentioned in the book was at age 16, you take the test. They didn’t have a choice to wait til they were 18. Being Irish twins would make sense. (One of my sister’s is nine months older than one of my brothers!) she took a two year break and had me. By the time she was 28, she had 6 kids and 1 miscarriage. I’ve seen this movie about 3ish times and never laughed this much while watching it 😂…. I’m an only child and I learned early on how to go to the movie theater by myself. So it’s hard for me to watch a movie with someone but you 3 make me wish I was there with you. Can’t wait to see you react to the next one 😊

The books were written by a psychology student. The war was brought on because of genetic engineering leading to arrogant superiority fighting other superiors - the city was a refuge set up to keep peace between the differences between superior genomes. Shaileene was the alternate Katniss Everdeen choice.

this movie/the books had such a huge impact on me when I was going through a very hard time in my life! unfortunately the rest of the movies stray pretty far from the books, but the first one will always have a special place in my heart

M8les Teller does an excellent job of being a love to hate character while also possessing a wicked, snarkiness that's pretty funny starting with the 2nd. I became a fan of this channel starting with your reaction to the final Top Gun Maverick trailer reaction and love the vibe with you three.

Watching your Up reaction was my first time seeing you guys and you have a fan FOREVER. I love this movie series but for once I have not read the books. I grew up with all brothers and I think that might be why I LOVE your reactions so much. Watching this reaction last night directed me straight to your HUNGER GAME REACTION VIDEOS. I watched this last night then the first three hunger game videos and the fourth this morning. I cannot wait for you guys to watch. The other two movies in the DIVERGENT SERIES. As a disabled person who does not have many people to watch movies with anymore I appreciate three new friends to watch favorites with. Thanks guys 🥰

I'm interested to see what you guys think of the next two movies. Book readers, in general, don't appreciate the sequels because they changed the stories. So it will be interesting to see what you guys think, since you haven't read the books. Looking forward to your future reactions!

Loved the reaction! Glad you enjoyed it. The books are truly amazing. Really and truly, one of the best book series' I've read and great for a reread. So much so, that the movies were always going to be hard to live up to them. The first film is the closest to the book and it is one of my favourite films. Divergent was beautifully done. They took a lot more of the author's contributions when filming too. However, Insurgent and Allegiant... well. They have soooo much missing from the books that the storylines changed way too much. For example, one of my favourite book characters dies, but in the movies, his scenes are stripped all the way down. This meant his death was not felt in the same way and I almost LOST it🤣 I watched them all in cinema and it physically hurt when I saw them skip integral scenes. Wow. Just realised I'm still mad about it a decade later. They did him so dirty. Uriah deserved better. Good films but the first one is definitely my 5/5. Might have enjoyed them more if I read the books afterwards (then again, I probably wouldn't have watched them if the books weren't so brilliant). I would definitely recommend the book series!!! There are some smaller spin off books too, and audiobooks for them all.

I hope you guys continue this trilogy- some people were extremely upset with the way it ended but this is what happened: There were 4 books: Divergent, Insurgent, Allegiant and Four- They recorded and released Divergent, Insurgent, and Allegiant. (Four was never going to be released, it was the last book but written as a prequel) They also planned a fourth movie called Ascendant. There was no book titled ascendant. This was a way for those adapting the story into the scripts to extend the series into four movies. The author of the books did not play a role in the adaptation. The books are different from the films, point blank. The story was wrapped up at the end of each film, in case the film flopped. Which is why the book fans were angry when Ascendant (the 4th movie) was cancelled because they didn’t make it half way through the story told in Allegiant (the 3rd book). They also changed a ton in the story. ALL OF THIS BEING SAID- I think these three movies are amazing, and I like where they end as well. So I wouldn’t listen to the hatred, and just enjoy these films.

Yes! Even though they never made the last one, these are still some of my favorite films. I have requested y'all watch them and I'm so glad you decided to!!

These are movies I love and just assume most people have seen them. i'm having fn going down memory lane watching you and others react to these type of sci-fi movies.
@deadsetondreams19882 жыл бұрын
I feel like most of the people who complain about these types of films (referring to book-based films) are those who have read the books. When it comes to people like us, those who tend to watch the films first and then read the books after the fact, if at all. We tend to enjoy the movies more
@lisahenry2011 ай бұрын
I tend to read first, but I'm terrible at picturing what I've read in my head, so I really appreciate the films. Plus I tend to prefer films because I can watch/listen to them while I do other things (travelling, gaming, cooking, cleaning, trying to get to sleep, etc), whereas I need to be mostly focused on the book when I'm reading.
@deadsetondreams198811 ай бұрын
@@lisahenry20 Took the words out of my mouth! I have a hard time understanding books when I read unless they are a specific type of book. As juvenile as it sounds my friend helped me realize that I'm best with Young Adult literature and I love poetry/ creative writing. Or coming-of-age writing, with a little bit of psychological fiction. Descriptive writing is everything to me. I do it too and I had a teacher complain that I was using way too many descriptive sentences when I wrote. But that's just personally how I comprehend everything. Audiobooks are a million times better for me because it's easier for me to visualize what's happening when someone else is reading it to me. When I was in school my sister used to read my school books to me to help me understand everything better. My worst unit was our Shakespearian one, my goodness I cannot understand old English for the life of me!! I would read each sentence 5 times and I still couldn't understand what they were trying to say. Again, my amazing sister would read it to me and break down what they were talking about in "regular" English for me to understand it. She and Sparknotes saved me during that unit, I swear! A lot of other genres, my brain just wanders too much because I can't visualize things if they aren't as descriptive. So movie adaptations are the best for me!!

These dystopian books came out about the same time to each other. I made my brother read them after I did and he memorably commented, "What is it about sixteen year old girls?" Dude, it's a tough age. :)
