Yet he is, and at this point, he’s probably looking up (not down) thinking the same thing. But if you can’t make a straight line from the dangers of the cult of celebrity/personality built around him to where we are today, you’re a fool. One of the first famous people to claim the allegations made against him were all a media witch hunt, at least partly because of race…..was OJ 🤷‍♂️. I find it unironic that the public figure most likely to be a provocateur of this notion today almost bought OJ’s beloved Buffalo Bills all them years ago.

The Simpson jury was also heavily stacked. Of the 12 jurors there were 9 Blacks, 1 Hispanic, and only 2 Whites selected. So the jury was 75% black despite the fact that blacks were just 10% of the potential jury pool in Los Angeles county where the case was filed. It was heavily stacked to benefit the Simpson defense considering polling showed that most black people thought Simpson was innocent and most white people thought he was guilty. So even if the prosecution had not made mistakes there was no way that mostly black jury was going to convict OJ Simpson. Especially considering one of the jurors was a former black panther that gave OJ a raised-fist “black power” salute after the verdict was read. No way were they ever going to get all twelve of those jurors to convict OJ Simpson. So much for justice for Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman.

I went to the dentist during the OJ trial. He was more interested in the trial than his job that day. He ended up calling me later to come back because he had missed something that needed attending to. I was skeptical of OJ's acquittal, and that was cemented when he wrote his book, "If I did it". Nobody is hating on OJ because he's black. The anger is for the murders of Nicole and Ron. The fact that the majority of people still think he was guilty even though he was acquitted in the criminal trial has nothing to do with race because most people loved him as an athlete and entertainer before the murders, he was almost heroic. The shocking disappointment to find out that he had a police-documented history as a wife-beater is what changed a lot of people's minds about him.
@pbase36

@@Kathy-pr4wu I'm not speaking on hatred of him, but rather the division that was highlighted during his trial. A lot has been spoken on and written about how different communities viewed his acquittal. The divide, for perhaps the first time, was clearly illustrated to millions of Americans. Why? OJ is one of the best contextual examples of how we ended up with a cult of celebrity/personality built around Donald Trump. He was one of the greatest beneficiaries of OJ’s downfall. Over the last 30 years, the media attention, sensationalism, adoration that the likes of OJ enjoyed got bestowed on Trump, providing the platform for him to transition to national politics. Now Trump’s trials are destination court TV viewing. I’d like to say I’m wrong about this, but sadly I don’t think so.
