I think that a good number of producers forget the storytelling aspect of this music, especially ambient/psybient/drone/dronebient, whatever you want to call it. There's a fair amount of content that is just nice sounds put together over seven minutes but with no real journey or movement or purpose to the track. Thank you for the reminder about building story, which means building tension and movement and build up and release.

Have to agree. Then you get to someone like Hélène Vogelsinger and it a whole journey. I’ve listed to Ceremony so many times and it still has a dynamic that’s completely captivating.

I'm just getting into ambient and modular(VCV Rack) and this is my goal. The learning curve is steep with modular, so it's going to take me awhile. But watching you create this piece was very exciting and inspiring! I will get there eventually, but this video here, I feel, will be my launching pad(no pun lol).

Hey. I just wanted to say thanks so much for the great work. Your videos are very well done, and awfully inspirational, which is just what this space needs.

excellent video Chris. I've been struggling to find inspiration and a method for writing music that fits in with my busy work/family life style and this might just be the way forward for me. I am loving your Ableton Utility template!! Im on a computer all day for work and dont always feel like putting in extra hours in front of a screen but the way you seamlessly pull up a synth and smash out sounds and sequences is awesome. Love your energy too!! keep the videos coming !!

is there a why to one time pay on PATREON and to only get some of your presets you made for dune 3 and other synths? this whil be cool for some of us that dont like PATREON subscription and monthly payment

So Chris I have to tell you I initially could not watch your videos for too long as you are pretty energetic and loud to me. That can be too much to handle for me. It does surprise me that you make ambient music and you make it so well too! So here I am again, this time to stay. I guess I rather take my information in a bit slower/lower volume but you inspire and that is what I can use a lot of. Thanks!

Would you pick Hive over Dune 3, I’m torn what to buy next, fantastic tutorial.
@s1gns0fl1fe2 жыл бұрын
Ohhh that's a tough one! Depends on what you're trying to create. Both synths can do virtually anything. I'd say Hive 2 is more user friendly but Dune 3 is far more powerful. I think they both have demos? Check them out first!

I love your channel and I try to emulate your workflow and tips as I practice. However, learning to use Ableton, plus all the software to make a noise is seriously putting a damper on my creative flow. I am getting better but I still end up abandoning whole tracks because I am not happy with them. Getting what is inside your head into a track is not easy when you don't know what you are doing half the time

Hang in there! Use presets if you need to. Start simply and build things up. It takes years to get a grasp of these concepts! If you want to learn more check out my Patreon. Cheers!

@@s1gns0fl1fe Thanks for the encouraging words. Yea I thought it might take years to learn this music form. I am going to practice all day. After my piano lesson lol.
