The RCMP was never designed to handle the size of city that surrey has become. It needs its own police force. Not to mention that the cost of dismantling the Surrey Police Force will be much higher than just finishing the transition. All for what? To have a police force that is horribly under staffed and under equipped?
@Harbinger3432 жыл бұрын
RCMP can be moved and posted throughout Canada. I would imagine that isn't very attractive to SPS members.
@justin214912 жыл бұрын
Exactly, people want to serve their community and not have to move their whole family throughout Canada their entire career. It is a condition of employment that you will be willing to relocate to wherever the RCMP sees fit.
@Harbinger3432 жыл бұрын
@The Perfect Life 007 Do you think that would help or hinder the doctor shortage? People aren’t slaves to be shipped around like chattel. CBSA, the military, and the RCMP are all having recruitment problems - basically every organization that expects that you uproot your family and move every few years. Usually thousands of km away from any family or community ties.

@The Perfect Life 007 very wrong. Use whatever encouragement and incentives you want to attract doctors to these communities. We have this thing called the charter of rights and freedoms that might be a barrier for the kind of indentured servitude that you advocate.

@The Perfect Life 007 good for you. You can quit anytime you like. What are you going to do if a doctor refuses to move to whichever frozen hell the government wants him in? Throw him in prison? Strip him of his medical license?

The people of Surrey initially opted in favour of SPS and should complete its transition. Brenda manipulated the issue in her favour just because the transition was associated with former Mayor McCallum. Surrey can’t keep going back n forth w this issue especially now where millions have already been spent n it already being half way completed. Surrey is set to overtake Vancouvers population soon and needs its own Policeforce. The RCMP is meant for small towns!
@TakumiJoyconBoyz2 жыл бұрын
I came from a small town. We had our own police force and it went far better than having the RCMP around. Honestly, I think having community driven police forces is far superior.
@drewd32222 жыл бұрын
@@TakumiJoyconBoyz I agree. How much more for a city thats growing as fast as Surrey, completing the transition to SPS will benefit it greatly. The city is full of naysayers who don’t want to pay higher taxes to facilitate the transition/new service and feel RCMP is adequate enough. I have yet to hear anything to convince me that the RCMP is better for Surrey.
@TakumiJoyconBoyz2 жыл бұрын

You're joking right, plenty of RCMP officers in the lower mainland are ex drug dealers and have speeding charges, I know of plenty who are not perfect so why are you saying that the Siri police force would be any different?
@RandomAnonamo2 жыл бұрын
@@justing4260 I think I see the disconnect. I don't think that. What I'm saying is, the RCMP have a very extensive vetting system, that still fails. I can't imagine building a new one from the ground up would be easy, especially since there are so many people who want the position that should never be trusted with that kind of power. I feel we're on the same side here.

Doesn’t seem like we were given the whole story. Is there something behind why the mayor wants to make the change? Why does the current union not want to be absorbed by the RCMP? Is it unusually lucrative? Are there current problems going on in the Surrey Police Service?

they addressed that in the video...If Surrey police is on their own, then they are not able to join mounties trainning because that is exclusive for RCMP. The previous mayor of Surrey Doug made a good decision and he knew it. We need our own police force and we need more jobs for that civilian department and officers too. Yes the days of RCMP is almost over in Surrey. Surrey had its own police force until 1950. The challenges are even greater with mental health, drug addiction, homelessness, and youths who need role models to look up too because someday they want to be police officers. Giving deep grassroots communities and immigrant dense neighbourhoods the power to police means the federal government has to relinquish control to divisive groups and foreign influences who have deeply established themselves for generations. They'll keep the peace just fine, but on a national scale I think Canada is too young, it's still in a fluid state with weak borders and a vast territory to police.
