Whether this is real or not. Just because someone is homeless doesn’t mean they’re not worthy of compassion or respect. I have a friend who would be homeless if I didn’t let him stay here. He may not have rent money but he helps in other ways. He takes trash out,warms up the car so I’m able to go to dialysis. So it’s an act of kindness we all need to use.

A homeless person came into our restaurant. He was served and everyone was polite, but he reaked of urine. The stench affected everyone's meal and he seemed to be high on drugs acting erratically. Homeless need more than kindness, they need help above and beyond what a restaurant can offer.

In grade school, I friended a very poor on the playground. She was dirty and pale, but I introduced myself to her, since she was alone. Her name was Kay and we became friends. She didn't smell very clean, but I didn't care and her clothes were too big like they were hand-me-downs. I noticed her brown paper lunch bag that had been so used over and over again, that it looked like cloth. I walked home with her, not knowing she was in my neighborhood so I walked to her home and I went to my house. I told my mom and she said, we have clothes that we can give her. The next day, my mom packed a grocery bag full of nice dresses and jackets. When I showed her my home I gave her the bag to take home.The next morning she brought them back and was crying, saying her mom wouldn't let her keep the clothes. I found out later that her mother & father were both alcoholics, and they told her to stay away from me. I would only see her at the school after that.

I was surprised wondering if the story was true or not. Either way it had a great moral. The way I was raised - treat others the way you want to be treated. I try to treat everyone with respect and kindness. Especially the elderly. I worked in the service industry all my 72 years. From pumping gas at my Dad’s service to my last 20 years as a Medical Office Assistant. Everyone wants a bit of your time and maybe some days are harder than others but I have loved working every job I had. I trust the rest of the world will end up doing the same. 😊
