This is awesome! Here 11 years later and I wish that the KZbin community adopted this technology more widely. This is perfect for KZbin because right now they can"t play true surround sound audio.

1. I used to think that PLII was just DSP "virtual" surround, now I know that even though it isnt pure digitally separate signals, it still is quite a powerful and controllable effect. 2. I wasn't sure if my denon receiver was playing PLII correctly and your video confirms it does. THANK YOU! Now if I could just get my darn PC to use the subwoofer out jack when playing back stereo music......

This demonstration is excellent and just answered all the DPL questions I had. Thanks so much for posting!

Incredible video! its the first time i can test my 5.1 like this with the stereo rca input

worked perfectly. HTPC -> AVR in ProLogicII mode. this is the only way to get surround sound (matrixed surround) on youtube because youtube only supports 2 channel audio. ProLogicII is perfect for the job.

amazing! dolby pro logic 2 its a miracle, i dont know why music and movies dont use this amazing sistem

Because discreet channel surround sound is infinitely superior to this.

Thanks, I had no idea my 5.1 receiver (connected to my PC with 2 ch. of input) actually supported Dolby Prologic II decode until I found this video and tried it.

Scott McGrath you’re welcome. I’d forgotten about this video to be fair. Pro logic II isn’t as good as discreet multichannel audio, but it is clever how it works. Many PS2 games such as GT4 and FF XII made use of it to great effect back in the day.

At last, I've learned how this audio encoding thing works. Thanks!

This is the best KZbin video to test your DPL II Sound System.. :) My Sony home theater works fine with this :)

It's not 5.1, that is 6 discrete channels of sound. Pro-logic is 2 channel audio that has a rear channel matrixed into it. With pro logic a decoder has to 'work out' which sounds should come from the rear; with discrete audio rear channels are fed by their own streams. DTS master audio now supports 7.1 discrete channels which can be matrixed up to 11.2 channels. There is a good example of this on The Expendables 2 bluray.

Works with Creative X-fi DTS:Neo PC Cinema Mode Encoding. Good for old DOS games with Dolby support using Dosbox.

It works perfect and I also noticed that the stereo audio file is encoded in dolby digital and my tv is playing it. In other words thats the only video that has DD on youtube.

Amazing video. Works well with youtube on pro logic ii

Thanks a lot, that really showed me Prologic does work with KZbin.

i have lfe channels here but only when the effects are in 2 ch stereo in phase mine has been set up too correctly. you should try to enable virtual surround at the speaker setting under enhacments tab if you ave win 7 or 8

Used this on my headset that uses an external decoder to decode PL II signal. After PL II is enabled it still doesn't sound like true surround sound (because it's a headset, what am I expecting anyway) but at least the direction is more accurate now, rather than everything just jamming inside my head while OOP sounds like I'm dizzy.

@mattburkey Ya I recently learned about ac3, thanks so much for all the information. Say, if I have a discrete multichannel mixdown, how would I go about converting that to a matrixed encoding? I imagine theres special software for it. Can you refer me to a good textbook on the subject?

Two of the newer standards I keep seeing are Dolby Pro Logic IIx and Dolby Pro Logic IIz. Are these standards backwards compatible with Dolby Pro Logic II?
@Jayrod649 жыл бұрын
To be more clear, if I have an AV Receiver that supports Dolby Pro Logic IIz, will older Pro Logic II software work.
@danielmewes8 жыл бұрын
I think so. I tried this file with a Pro Logic IIx decoder and the rear (surround) channel came through just fine.

Music could and perhaps should, but movies use a much better system (Dolby 5.1, Dolby True HD, DTS, DTS HD Master Audio, etc.). Those formats are superior in that they deliver 5.1 or 7.1 discrete channels of sound (each speaker is encoded separately). Through a similar process to the PLII matrixing DTS can now deliver 11.1 surround sound experiences.
@BlackThunder88811 жыл бұрын
i know, bat reproduce all those formats require a expensive audio system, dp2 it's cheaper and easier to reproduce because require a simple rca stereo cable, and can be reproduced in almost every home theatre

I was eager to test, but it seems my Okyo HT3505 does no decode PLII :( Any virtual sound card that would decode it and output PCM 5.1 through HDMI?
@PiddeBas9 жыл бұрын
+Guilherme Dellagustin Make sure your hdmi output is set to stereo in order to turn (cuz' there might be one) on the prologic decoder in your avr.

I have a soundcard that does true surround sound and have it setup exactly as should be. This demonstration is not true surround sound as no information is being sent to the LFE channel. I'm having trouble finding anything on the internet that plays back in true surround sound (not this decoding nonsense).
