Surround Sound REAR Speaker combinations for 5.1 and 6.1 and 7.1 Atmos | Bipole. Dipole, Monopole

Rear Surround Sound Speaker placement option combinations are shown in this video. These speaker setups are for surround sound setups for 5.1 and 6.1 and 7.1, 9.1, 11.1 Home theater.
The various placement of the speakers are shown by using Monopole, Bipole and Dipole speakers. The speaker placement is very important for movies and gaming. Gamers will hear opponents and sounds behind them giving a advantage. Placing the Bipole or Dipole speakers in the rear will create a wider soundstage. Placing Monopole speakers on the sides will be more precise and direct.

Nice that you take the time to put this on video. My sofa is 20 cm from the back wall. Current a 5.1.2 setup. The plan is to make a shelve behind the sofa, and use two speakers firing up with an angle towards the wall; hoping the sound refracts against the wall. The height and angle of the speakers will be very important, but as they are behind the sofa, the WAF factor is quite high.

One small follow up question: you mentioned in a 7.x.x setup you preferred monopole as side surround and bipole as rear surround. Why is bipole preferred over dipole as rear surround? How would it different in as rear surr vs dipole? Cheers!

Was searching on Google if it was ok mix monopoles and bipoles since I was looking to add one Def Tech bipole speaker for 6.1 surround back while having monopole Def Tech for my surrounds. Glad I came across this video since it looks it’s possible to make it work.

Great video! For the bipole speakers on the side walls, what height do you keep them at? I see people recommending putting them 1-2 ft above ear level. Is that ideal from your experience?

I have have put them on top of a bookshelf...about 6 feet high. But what sounds good to you will vary. Just play around with different heights

Ear level. I measured how high my short self sits. It's 42 inches all my bookshelves sit 42 inches

This is the video I've been looking for! I already bought the monitor audio bronze 5.1 HCP, with the FX model, bipole/dipole, for surround. I prepared all to place them on my side walls, around 170cm from the MLP, placing them at about 50cm from the back wall. is that the best option? or, if I understood you right, you think the best position is in the corners? I think I could make that happen. or maybe they should be on the back wall, which has the window in the middle?

At 09:10 in the video that in my opinion, based on hundreds of movies, listening to planes, dragons, magic spells and whatever else fly from front to rear and rear to front sounds best. I suggest before mounting position them loose and play movies that have that type of sound. The placement I mentioned is the minimum width. Feel free to spread them further apart. If you are going to put the bipoles on the side walls put them far back behind the couch, so one side is close to the wall and the other is angled towards the rear seats. All this of course for a 5.1 setup

I have a 6.2.4 Atmos setup using two bi-pole surrounds mounted on the walls about 6.5 feet from m.l.p. and about 110 degrees behind and about a foot above ear level. Should my single back speaker be an identical bi-pole or should I use a monopole speaker for the surround back? Thanks for your help.

If its only 1 surround back definitely a bi pole......two surround backs ae much better, and still bipoles are best

@@OldtradesReviews Thanks, I will try one bipole. My only concern is a fireplace with rough brick on a 45 degree angle to the right and a bookshelf 6 feet on the left of the speaker. The speaker would be 9 feet from main listening position.

That sounds complex. The one bipole would be the best option. Try to buy one that has a tweeter and woofter on each side of the speak some are unbalanced with only a tweeter on one side or a woofer in the middle.

Awesome video. I have a question for you. I'm my situation at my house my kitchen and living room meet each other there is no wall or something that devices one from the other so I am thinking about putting rear surround but if I do they would be half ways my kitchen table and living room. Any recommendations on were could I place them? I was thinking sorta up by my ceiling and also should I be using a bipole speaker instead of a bookshelf speaker?? Any help would be appreciated 🙏

Looking to buy matching surrounds for my klipsch fronts. Was also recommended to get by poles and mono poles. Bipolars for the sides, mono poles for the rear. What would you recommend for a system that’s used for movie and multi channel music listening? Room is 25 long by 12 wide. The room opens into a hallway about 8 feet from the right side of the rear. Room would be a perfect rectangle if it wasn’t for the left side which has angled corners, and windows. I plan to put the speakers on studio monitor stands. They’re the only ones I can think of that would get the speakers above my head in a sitting position. I could mount them on the wall, if it wasn’t for the windows on the left.

How many speakers are you going to do in total? Any heights? And if you want matching then Klipsch would have to be the brand for surrounds

@@OldtradesReviews seven for now. Fronts, side surrounds, and rear surrounds. If I find someone who knows what they’re doing with cutting holes in my ceiling, I will get for heights for Atmos, but that’s in the future.

So I saw people saying bipole is not good for 7.1 or atmos because of how atmos should point out specific locations. I was looking at monitor audio bronze FX as the side as bipole. Then Q acoustics 3010i or 3020i as rears, and perhaps wharfedale 11.1 as fronts plus a diamond 12 wharfedale center. But might be too many different signatures around me?? And not sure about the bipole on the sides
