Great video. It was good that you emphasized the danger of not being able to start a fire. When I was young I fell through the ice of a small creek. Luckily I was close to home, but in the short run to safety my pants froze stiff. I would like to see how you make your fire starters. Good job, Randy

Great video my friend! Lots of good info. I was wondering if you'd be able to come up with some tips and tricks for surviving hot weather stents in the woods. There's a lot of videos about surviving the cold but not enough about extreme heat!!

Rivers often times represent unforseen danger to most people unfortunately. I personally simplify and catagorize my fire kit. Fat wood for favorable fire conditions, and pine sap for unforvable fire conditions. Bic lighter in my pocket, ferro rod in the haversack

It'd nice to have one on standby if the weather is or have been foul enough to hender the use of natural material beyond a reasonable desire. I'll tell you what that stuff we picked up at Blackies spot l.... I've still got 2 baskets full at the house lol.

My awakening came when I tried to swim in a pool. After my back problem I found that I could not swim like I used to. So around water I make sure I have floatation with me.

I watched a video from a guy trying to justify calling in a rescue. He went out snow shoeing. He was a ultra light backpacker (his terminology). Anyway he took a lighter and a gas stove. He gets stuck in a valley. Then something happens to his lighter. Now get this he has no water because everything depends on the one lighter. His food freeze dried. So when he calls rangers he says he has no food no water. They get mad seeing he has food and snow everywhere. It blows my mind these people go hiking and don't plan for anything bad. They don't even know what to do. Ive seen videos of them saying a compass and map is extra weight. Most ultra light don't even carry a knife. Like a knife is to heavy? I personally believe everyone should practice fire making every way they can find. The first part is learning tinder, kindling, fuel. Secondly is making fire starters. The best and cheapest is cotton and Vaseline in aluminum foil. Even better add beeswax and candle oil. My most used gear id never part with wazo survival belt. Im sorry for the very long comment but that video really matched your point. Id link it but they don't let you anymore! People don't understand how important the basics are. All a master is the person that knows all the basics. An can do them regardless the situation.
