Really like this session matey. Will copy some of your outstanding rig. Will remenber the theme, knife sharpener & fire with additional accessories. We got outback regularly so your ideas & suggestion is quite valid for survival in the bush. Thank you for sharing your expert advise. Cheers Cobber. Greetings from Australia.

I carry a 6 inch knife as my EDC and I have many. On my EDC blades I Velcro and zip tie a multitool pouch. On my camping blades I add a pouch with a large ferro rod, striker and a thick stick of fat wood. With a couple Bic's in my pocket or pack. A have a couple Wazoo fire cards that really is the bomb.

I’m right there with you about the importance of making fire and sharpening the knife. My favorite “sheath kit” is one that comes off the sheath and attaches to my belt when I wear the knife. That way the pouch can be a little bigger and have more things, like a whistle, signal mirror, compass, cordage, water filter, and fire tinder. Maybe a small chem-light or flashlight. And the knife only has the sharpener and ferro rod.

New sub👍🏼Right away my pants dropped 3 inches lower into gangsta mode. Like probably everyone reading this I bought a “Rambo knife” in 1983. Was disappointed in the little 3 match/ 2 fishhook “survival kit” and started building clever little caches of doodads. 40 years later I still string my boots w/ 550 and wear a belt with a zippered pocket. Les Stroud taught one of the best tips about carrying survival gear out into the unknown: CROSS LOAD. Choose clothing with robust pockets and disperse the 10C’s across your 6-10 pockets. Don’t forget the value of neck/wrists/ankles. Wear a proper belt knife and multi tool on your belt. If your sheath holds a ferro rod-so much the better. This way if you fall in a river (and I have, wearing a 50 pound pack) or some clodhopper comes along and boots your bag over a cliff because he’s a seriously drunk Russian (also a true story) YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TOOLS. Worst plan: a “survival kit” in your primary ruck (honesty what’s the benefit?) Best plan: cross loaded gear that only gets lost if your clothes are zapped away by aliens. Building survival knife kits is fun. Carrying 3 extra pounds (especially if you’re already carrying self defense) is not fun. Droopy drawers = chub rub😬I once asked an LA cop “hey officer what do they teach cops about building earthquake survival kits for your home?” Without missing a beat he said “use Action Packers or ammo cans, put reflective tape all over it. And put a kit in every room including your garage and cars. That way if half your house is a pile of jumbled wood and pipes spewing natural gas you could conceivably snatch a few of your kits before getting to safer ground.” That was in 2009. It’s ….solid advice. Tools floating down a river, flying over a cliff, stolen by some jerk (because the worlds full of jerks) or buried under an earthquake pile are no more useful than tools sitting on the shelf at Home Depot. One final point: I used to work part time with a Teamster who was also San Bernardino Sheriff SAR. I asked him “who do you rescue the most?” His reply? “Day hikers who are wearing shorts, tank tops and flip flops -all of whom left their gear and jackets in the car cuz it was so beautiful out.” That dude had some crazy stories. But this is way too long already. Thanks for the video, brother. I also enjoyed your mess kit video

I’m looking to modify my Demko Armiger 4: it’s a very simple sheath design with what looks like the potential to add on a pouch. The sheath is only 4.75” long by 3.50” wide so I’m trying to find a little clip pouch that will fit a ferro rod, a smith’s sharpening tool, and an Emergency Space Blanket.

I’ve seen those canoe style sharpening stones before. Sometimes called garden sharpening stones at your local big box center. My preference is to carry a smaller file if I’m out and about.

Schrade makes an excellent hollow handle knife where the whole handle is the tang. Its forge welded. It’s quite heavy.

How is that esee knife set up for left handed use? Is it just how it sits in the sheath or is the knife also modified?
