Survival, Maybe... #500 Finishing up the Dyson Sphere -- finally enough power (A Space Engineers Survival Series) Don't you have a remote control on the Nugget? You should add it, so you can remotely fly your ship down to pick you up.

If solitary Sandbags are vulnerable, maybe the next iteration should have 2-3 turrets. It's only the cost of the extra guns and a slightly larger frame (they'd share the power and control blocks) so it's more bang for the buck, would have higher survivability and it's fewer units to monitor and maintain.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
That would certainly work. My main fear with making them larger is the larger the grid the higher the likelihood of clang when interacting with voxels so may not save as much as is hoped :P

I think the size of the tower is just perfect. Although a long way off the ground, the solar panel array is aesthetically spot on for the height of the tower. If the panels were any lower they would look disproportional to the tower core. PS Nice business sideline - Tourism. Great for base jumping 👌

Welk yeah the Duckling is the "sensible" option... but judging Shack's reaction to the cycle their reaction to the buttercup trying to swim around would be worth it. Plus watching them three try flying her... One of the things I am most excited with about that series is that there is finally someone in that group that understands pistons, rotors and sensors and can teach. Tex and W4sted recently spent 3 hours of a 4 hour stream constantly destroying and rebuilding the floor of one of their bases because they didn't know how to incrementally piston raise a connector from below. lol.

I’ve noticed that a mod of your list (random base) is trending but I don’t know how to make it work. Also blocks that consume resources are spotlights(they create shadows), conveyors, modules (on or off), unfinished blocks(you have a couple hidden in the base corners) to many scripts running at the same time( all running at the same second, if you offset them that helps). If you are using airtight, large rooms when decompress and refilled it kills sim speed.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
You need to use the planetary installations mod with it, then as you move around the planet some of the bases will be randomly spawned - by default it will attempt to spawn one for every 6km you move over the surface :)

I was thinking when you go to space you could have a battery station on this new tower where you have power packs with merge blocks that you pick up before heading to space. I'm pretty sure both tubes and junctions simply count as graph edges, and the graph is only checked when the blocks are placed, its state being cached and thus there sholudn't be any extra cost to using junctions. The engine seems to use an algorithm that sacrifices speed when placing blocks to gain speed during normal operation (which is why when grids get really large there can sometimes be a lag spike when you place any block that uses the conveyor system).
@Splitsie5 жыл бұрын
From what I understand after having it explained by people much smarter, the conveyor systems work node to node, with junctions representing 6 nodes and constantly checking if anything's connected (or something along those lines, this stuff is not my forte) and I've seen good examples since I made this of the junctions causing performance drops on servers vs systems primarily based off tubes :(

The rotors use very little power and I've not tested it but I don't believe they require any extra power even if you increase their maximum torque. You should make an ice mining plant on the lake
@riccardogemme6 жыл бұрын
Not worth the materials sadly. The ice is just a thin layer with rock under it.

I don't know what I'd use that much hydrogen for but if I think of something I'd be tempted to build some sort of draggable strip miner :P

Unfortunately I think the enemy is rebuilding the first base that you destroyed I suggest you check on that
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I think there might be something in the planetary installations mod that can 'rebuild' or repair parts of the enemy bases and I'd really like to look into it more, but both thankfully and sadly the ones in this scenario can't do that :(

you've built a Mega Solar Power Tower! not big enough!
@Splitsie3 жыл бұрын
As it turned out, this one was more than big enough :D
@Zamolxes775 жыл бұрын
You megalomaniac, that's gianormous ! I'm curious what's the performance hit between this and a "forest" of 10 small towers with 12 panels each, protected by 4 turret pylons as overwatch.

Why not put 2 small upwards thrusters on the Buttercup?
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I've been having some frustrating problems with the buttercup lately, that seem to be fixed by reloading the whole game. Fortunately the nugget is proving to be quite a bit more functional at the moment since I think the range of small grid welders got improved a little in the last patch :)

I like the Nugget

i have a suggestion that is totally not currently relevant but you have talked about wanting to build a tank. You have a bird theme going with most vehicles except for the Tick, it could be cool to name military vehicles bug themed names and i think Goliath would be a great name for a tank, and you could make a fighter jet and name it the Hornet or something like that. The names show a clear distinction between your combat and utility vehicles.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
I was thinking of something along those lines only going with some australian spider names, since ticks are also arachnids :) Something like the trapdoor, funnelweb, huntsman etc

Cool

@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
Rocket turrets would require rockets (I have a few from the base salvage) which would require uranium and platinum to make. That's why I've stuck with gatlings so far :)

Can you do a video where you show people how to get to mars, from the earth like planet, because that would be very helpful.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
The main way to get to mars, is to first get up to space, then get some platinum and other materials in order to make jump drives, then use them to get to mars as flying there at 100m/s is almost pure insanity :P

Are you still on 1.186 on this playthrough?
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
Nope, I've updated whenever the updates come out. On your first comment I would have been since 1.187 was still months away at that time though
@johny_mac6 жыл бұрын
Many apologies for the earlier post, that is the video that I am up to in this playthrough and when I signed in for some reason it went back to that one and like a dumb arse I didn't even notice. How do you manage bugs that may arise due to updates. At the moment with 1.187 I have a bug in a few saves were connected ship become unconnected after a reload. It did happen in my play along with Survival Maybe but some how when trying to sort it out it rectified itself. After another 50hrs of playing this game I remember the reason I stopped playing it 2 years ago, you just end up hitting a brick wall with all the bugs and back then I just gave up. I will try and persevere this time as your play along save is going good and it is very enjoyable watching your video's.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
No need to apologise, I only mentioned it as it was a convenient reference point to use :) I've been pretty lucky with the bugs, but in the past when I ran into them I would just use creative mode and cheats to get the save back into the exact or close to it, position I was in before something broke, then continue on playing like nothing happened :) I've always had a lot more patience for bugs in space engineers than other games though because I love the design possibilities

Please just leave airtightness ON as much as you can. I'm so sick of seeing airlocks that don't do anything, poeple grinding holes in their ships bc they're too lazy to find a door and constant muffled sounds in space.
@Splitsie6 жыл бұрын
My plan is to leave it on all the time :) I would rather restart in another scenario than go to space without it :)
