Making repairs isn't fun to talk about, but it is necessary when it needs to get done. Here's my small survival repair kit breakdown. And some chow on a Solo alcohol stove too.

I agree I used dental floss to stitch up a blown-out seam on a leather pouch and it is as good as new. Can't vouch for the mint part. I have a small thimble in my kit I made from a scrap of leather. If you can't find beeswax, candle wax will do.

The little “sticks” that you put in a hot glue gun can sometimes be useful. You don’t need the glue gun. And a tiny piece can be half the size of that bic lighter. When heated up with the lighter you can liquify the glue stick for use. I’ve found having “glue” in this form is often handy for a number of things and its space and weight are small.

If you ever find a tiny but strong magnet… even better a magnet that can be attached to a lanyard. Throw it in your little “sewing kit”. The purpose is mainly for “sticking” needles to. When in the forest environment like you are… when you drop a needle…. It’s gone. But like a little pin cushion. You can just “stick” the needles to the magnet and it will prevent loss in between jobs or when you just need to put the needle down temporarily. Plus the magnet is useful for making an improvised compass out of one of the needles or it might be fished down a pipe to retrieve an object.

And on this Memorial Day weekend, I wish to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all of our men and women of our armed forces who have sacrificed themselves for their fellow soldiers, airmen, marines and coast guardsmen, as well as their families!! Boot strings - one leather and one of the type on your boots. Also a little more 100 mph duct tape wrapped around an old gift card.

Seen someone on KZbin that kept a couple of coat hangers in his pack . And wire , solid core wire of different gauges ( the hillbilly "bailing wire" ) . This kind of goes along with the repair kit : "Breaking and Entering Kit " - fencing pliers , small pry bar , plastic wedge , etc. B&E is heavy , so I only take in a INCH situation . 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I keep a couple of fast tech buckles. If you use a air mattress you will need patches for it. I ripped mine one night. Two more days in the field. So now it's old school foam pad for me.

More 60mph tape. agree with the zip ties. The "housewife" is a little light duty for pack repairs, Fresh heavier thread and sail needle (It looked like you had one). Great presentation First Sergeant, Semper Fi.

More adhesives. Look for a product called "Double Bubble Epoxy", its a 2 part epoxy that comes in a foil packet. Shoe Goo, E6000, and a couple others also come in the small tubes. I also use a short piece of a plastic straw and melt the ends shut to store all kinds of things...you can get them in various colors and sizes for specific applications.

I have the speedy stitching awl. If you include different threads and fishing line you can fix just about anything. From a popped shirt button to a thick canvas sail. I got three so I could place them in different packs and have one in the car kit. I also have a few different weights of fishing line so I can save the thread for clothing. I also bought a few upholstering needle kits. What I have mirrored pretty much what you showed, only I don't have a small kit bag. I used an empty food container to store my gear in. I decided on several sizes of Plastic containers because they can double for other needs such as water holding containers. The nice thing about them is they are free. When you buy food and finish the contents. just clean it out and start storing what ever you need to store. I mean these bags you have to buy are cool looking but they are getting outrageously expensive. I like free when I can pull it off.

What about a miniature set of screwdrivers and pliars, or use a Multi-tool, Leatherman Skelatool, some HD Guage wire, Kevlar wire, add a toothpick, dental floss as additional cordage (remove from plastic case to take up less space)....just a few quick thoughts.

A few yards of kevlar cord spooled up in a pill bottle might be handy. Ditto ~ 6” of bicycle inner tube. It can be sliced into rubber bands of varying size. (It was one way ‘Nam troops secured gear from rattling.) Or as cut into waterproof patches (with the glue).

Plain small Eagle claw 1/0 and smaller fish hooks, a small knapping bopper, where ever mans been, theres glass, ez quick hunting tips, spear or small arrows, dental floss.

Nice kit. Great suggestions in the comments. I'd add a Squirt for the small pliers and screwdrivers, a shirt length of solid core wire for replacing cotter pins and other linked items, Shoe Goo for soles and more, and some lubricant for those squeaks that show up, I think you've got everything else covered. Your videos just keep getting better and Riggs is getting his camera work handled.

Several thing in that kit can have more than one use, like by drilling a hole through the handle of the awl it can be used to hold fishing line and becomes a float. Hollow out that same handle to store hooks and fishing weights.. Finding more than one use for things in your kit can greatly reduce bulk and weight. Many folks don't realize how easily a few items of little weight soon become pounds. Top, that is a neat little kit, Mine is bigger, weighs more and has additional stuff (sand paper, pliers and other stuff). It works for me, because of my fumble fingers and bad vision. I learned more new stuff. ;)

A few feet of light bank line (#6?) can be useful for heavy sewing (tarp corner tapes, pack straps, etc.). You'll probably need a sail needle.

Nice kit. Crayon or candle for zippers. Hot glue stick, melt with lighter or candle. Hair ties, better than rubber bands, Bobby pins, paper clips, and binder clips. Those are my additions.

Maybe a lifestraw or small container of bleach for when the water bull is empty. I would say a Gerber multi-tool, but I keep that on my belt at all times for at least 20 years. The scissors on that tool is sharp enough to clip my fingernails and has done so many times when I get a split. Oohrah.

Great little pack. I'd add a Leatherman. Either the micra (scissor multitool) or the squirt PS4 (pliers multitool). That is if you don't want a fullsize multitool in there. Bank line is great too for quick repairs.

Tenacious tape is a huge addition to the kit!! I’m really partial to gorilla tape and you can get it in 1” width now. Some short lengths of para cord are always useful as well.

I have a couple rolls of tenacious tape, tube of shoe glue. I would ditch the awl and get a Tandy leather sewer with Xtra rolls of string. My needles and guts of some 550 are in a chunk of heated and folded kydex, with ranger bands. The kydex is notched to hold the string. I need to work on the small personal sewing kit. J.c. dodge over at mason Dixon tactical had a kit, under the title. For the want of a nail. That was really good. Maybe small snare wire or bread tie ties. I do like the seam sealer. At home I have a 50 cal can loaded with matches to thread to inner tube patches, flints, zippo wicks. Yoyo fishing. Fuel funnel. Just alot of obscure redundancy

Great video Top! You know, you have the makings there of a cuts kit too.. you got the crazy glue, duct tape, and needles and thread. Crazy glue, duct tape, and toss is some cotton balls and you can take care of most minor/inconvenient cuts… should the need arise (maybe being days away from the local ER, you have the needle and thread if need be…Not just a gear repair kit, but a personal repair kit too! Maybe add a few cotton balls with Vaseline (fire starting, moisturizer, and lube for zippers) and couple of plain cotton balls to act as a mini-dressing with some duct tape. Keep up the Fire!

Another trick. Take a piece of good quality string that will take ink. And put the string next to a ruler. Then with a sharpie or other ink. “Mark” the string in half inch increments out to 12”. In this way you have just constructed a rudimentary “ruler” that can be used for other things like your means of keeping your scissors closed. But when needed you can get some basic measurement. Having a ruler handy is good for many sewing or “gear repair” type tasks. And it doesn’t really take up any real volume or weigh anything. Just a way to make something you already have more multifunctional. You could also use “knots” in the string to accomplish the same thing but the ink is a better solution in my opinion.

Another way to accomplish this (which is less “elegant”) would be to just accuracy measure and cut a string to 12” without any ink marks. If you know the string is 12” and you fold it in half… you have a 6” ruler. And folded into half again is 3” or you could fold it into thirds for 4” etc etc but again it gives a basic way to get a measurement.

Nice kit . Wife has scissors similar to those she uses in her embroidery cave . Exacto knives are light and handy . Gets dull , break it off and it’s good as new . Never thought of the patches. The Riggs cam was cool . Have a great evening

Kevlar thread on a bobbin is always good. Not long ago i went on a Garilla glue binge, I got the glue for Non porus surfaces which i think is far better than two part epoxy and you dont have the mess mixing the stuff, the Garilla duct tape is friggen AMAZINGLY sticky $#it for sure. I also have a pocket sized gromet application tool that puts the male grommet to the female, and a smack with the butt of a survival knife and the grommets are permanetly mated, the tool is no bigger than a bic lighter, doesn't weigh much either. Great video, being able to quickly repair your clothes or other gear to get you out of a bind and home safely can be a life saver.🇺🇸✌

I have used gorilla glue many times only for it to fail, the tape is great but the glue not so much. Harbor freight super glue ftw. Its small and cheap, keep in a pill bottle for protection

Thanks for showing us your wee segmented "razor knife"... I've JUST put one into my own repair kit. I saw what looked like a sail needle, in your video... I've got some also... Also a good spool (a HUGE roll) of "waxed nylon" is with me. It's good for mending canvas or leather; or, for CREATING useful items of canvas or leather. (Waxed nylon also is WAY better for "whipping" the ends of "cordage", than electrical tape; although, I carry THAT, also.)
