I actually had a decent time in Rust. Some guy killed me and took my stuff, but, as luck would have it, I found a loaded gun and found him shortly after. So, of course, I did what any reasonable person would do. I shot the bear that was chasing him, approached him with my torch, and peacefully demanded my stuff back. He complied, so I gave him the gun I found as a sign of good will, and we went our separate ways. Also, I found a guy using fly hacks claiming to be Colonel Sanders and handing out cooked chicken to players.

@geoffreygualtieri378

No, because pretty early in the game you get access to what is called ‘the ark’, which is basically a hub for all the story missions and different shops where you can buy various goods. One of these shops is a convenience store where you can buy fuel for money. So no, you cannot get stuck.

TheInsomnicat Except they weren't. Redigit (The [only?] Terraria programmer) said a fair few times that he got inspiration from Minecraft, (not to mention that Terraria is pretty much the only reason The Ender Dragon exists, as it got made right after Notch played that game - him immediately deciding that Minecraft needs more bosses.) Starbound, on the other hand, has Tiyuri, one of the old graphics artists for Terraria. And, like the Minecraft thing, Starbound doesn't even hide that they took inspiration from Terraria, and Starbound's been advertised on the front page of Terraria Forums a fair few times, too (Pret-ty sure by Red, too!)

Daniel Stevenson actually, yatzhee is more of a comedian than a fair reviewer. as for don't starve, i'd say its probably the most interesting and well polished indie game I've ever gotten my hands on. its survival in every aspect, after lots of deaths and retries (game allows you to have 4 save files and custom worlds of your choosing as well as even mods if you care for them) the most i can say is theres always more surprises in the game, theres a simple list of what and how many things you need in order to create something. the 2D flash view that affects all cash games that aren't side scrolling are fixed (you can easily turn the camera as well as zoom in/out a fair bit). its intuitive, quick to figure out how to do things yourself and completely hands free learning and exploring experience with random generating worlds. unlike minecraft, theres a constant need for food (you need an actual decently sized meal or small fewer meals or you'll die in a few days which can be harder than it seems when i say it but its because it takes a few days for the vegetation to grow back after you've gathered it. making even migrating a problem because there can be enemies), fire (for the night), etc. the "crafting" is more about having necessary resources meaning you have to travel in order to get to more environments in order to build the needed things and they're all useful and weapons and traps for different prey can be used, as well as even baits. food and weapons will lose their usefulness if not eaten and spoiling and broken meaning resources are a constant need. if you don't have food, you're going to stop whatever you're doing and go get food and the game gives you adequate time for doing so but the game also makes hogging some bushes for berries forever impossible. enemies form normal to very strong will also come looking for you at certain times of the moon, year, or they can even just be relocating, etc. imagine that, a survival game thats actual about surviving the wilderness, not just until you get the best armor/weapons and nothing can really kill you. not only that but the story and world of don't starve are so unique, interesting and just downright amazing. (yes i love this game and i think you're a dolt for not even checking it out but going to say its just another mess like terreria, even mine craft was a mess in my opinion form what I've heard and seen in quite a lot of gameplay of it)

I'd love to see Yahtzee try to play Dwarf Fortress. I don't mean that in a snarky way, I seriously would like to see him do a review on it. I fucking love that game, but it takes a half dozen trial and error campaigns and a couple hours of wiki research, just to be considered a noob. But once you get past that barrier, it become absolutely addicting, even as a noob who is still starving his dwarfs to death due to bad planning on his 12th game.

I've got a good idea for a zombie survival game: an RPG where you have only one goal: survive. You have to create a safe-zone where zombies can't get into, and then find survivors and bring them to the safe zone. You start out with one of two weapons: a knife that won't break after a certain number of hits like most other melee weapons, or a 9mm pistol that has unlimited ammo but alerts zombies and hostile humans to your presence.

I have a better Idea, I RPG with character development where you start by picking your situation such as coming home from work, being at work, or being at home which has different outcomes such as, finding weapons people and zombies faster if your in the city at work, medium of all when at home, and small amounts coming from home, zombies only die when being shot in the head, and there is around ten endings, but that's my quick rundown of my game...

You know... The whole "Live and let live" statement is quite accurate for most games with survival in them. Sure a sniper in DayZ will kill you no problem, but if someone has a shotgun, and you have an assault rifle, you both will be too busy watching out for the other to kill each other. More often then not, I made long lasting alliances because I had a shotgun, and was always within the "Insta-death" range for it.

Make this game: 1. Zombies/ other pack-like scary creature. Preferably fast and zerg-like 2. Not an infinite world, but a highly detailed and MASSIVE world that is at least 75X75 miles large. 3. Multiple factions to facilitate PVP while not making it impossible for newbies. 4. NPC for new players to get started with, or harder ones for group play. 5. Resource system that is scarce to cause an economy to form, but not so scarce you never find anything. Have points of interest that randomly spawn for factions to contest over 6. Make night time a good idea by making the creatures more common and dangerous but increasing the chance of rare item finds. 7. First person shooter RPG that isn't entirely dependent on levels and everyone is dangerous. 8. Have faction zones that are relatively safe, neutral zones to be contested over, and enemy zones to invade. 9. All in one server. 10. Crafting system that is highly detailed, and equipment system with maintence required. 11. Skill system based on actually using the skill and it improving slowly over time. Bam, just combined: Minecraft, Eve, Seven days to die, Planetside, Borderlands, Skyrim and many others in one super game. Make that game and you can have all of my money.
@Rebellions
@Rebellions 10 жыл бұрын
I would say you are a genius, and I appreciate the amount of time it must have taken for you to dream this up, unfortunately because i'm a pessimist, I will now go over every point you stated and counter-argue for why it wouldn't work. 1. I noted that you said "PREFERABLY" but if it turns out fast and zerg like this contradicts point number 3 by making the standard enemies able to swarm and kick the shit out of newbies in an instant (Taking into consideration that you wanted a horde of fast moving enemies and there is no leveling) 2. If there is only ONE server, there will not be enough room considering that EVERYONE who owns a computer would play it, so it would at least have to be half the size of planet earth in scale, which I don't think the latest and greatest PC's could run so point 9 makes this impractical. 3. PVP has not and will never be easy to balance out, especially in a game that is based entirely on skill, while still keeping it accessible to new players. Also each faction would have to have a specific purpose within the world or it would conflict with the whole "RPG" aspect of Point 7. 4. You need to elaborate here because I do not understand your meaning, NPC for new players? 5. Resources cannot be scare yet not scarce at the same time if everyone is on one server, which would lead to either a resource-abundant game world that caused no conflict OR a world so scarce for resources that anyone who got anything worthwhile would hold onto it for about 6 seconds before being beaten to death by EVERYONE for the next 20 miles over. 6. Thanks to point number 5, this would heavily conflict with point number 3 of leaving it accessible to newbies because nightime would be your best chance of finding anything outside of the bare-basics and will lead to many a pointless deaths to the cheap zerg-rush hordes. 7. This point I could agree on, if you didn't contradict yourself in point 11 as a skill system that levels as you use it more often is the exact same as just having a leveling system, its just thinly disguised and will still lead to the standard "Getting ganked by an asshole because he's 10 levels higher than you" only this time it will be "Getting ganked by an asshole because all his skills are maxed and yours aren't" essentially making it an impossible fight and traces back to my issue with PVP being impossible to balance while still leaving it open to new players. 8. Wouldn't that defeat the purpose of an open-world survival game where anything can happen if there are areas that are completely safe? 9. What about Veterans that want to do a sort of hardcore "No-respawns" mode Al-La minecraft? Or players who want to roleplay without constantly having their characters broken by the millions who AREN'T roleplaying all around them. What about people who only want PVE elements with no PVP business because it frustrates them, do they just get to eat shit? 10. to quote Yahtzee "You have 1 second to name any game in which weapon degradation has ever been a good idea" as for crafting, I don't see it as being that detailed considering that because of point 5, resources are either too easy to come by, or too hard to find to make crafting tenable. 11. As much sense as that makes as I already stated, Skill levels are the exact same as character levels its just alot more numbers for the micromanagement lovers who want their builds to be PRECISELY as they envision it, only without a regular leveling system there is no skill cap and with everything being on one server you will have 3 million people with maxed out EVERYTHING being allowed to freely bully new players that haven't even figured out what the skill tree does yet. Don't get me wrong, I think the game is a great idea and sounds great on paper, but then again, MANY things sound good on paper that in practice are essentially impossible, plus in order to make it not suck you would have to have many rival companies that design MMOS and other such games to work together for longer than 5 minutes and share profits, which would detract from their own MMO's profits which would in the end, make them less money, at least in their eyes since it is being split amongst so many "Rival" companies. So yeah I may be a dreamcrusher here but I don't think this will ever work in practice. Go ahead and dispute me if you can see workarounds for this, but I can't see companies like Blizzard, Valve, or EA working together for longer than 5 minutes on something like this.

I don't think 7 and 11 are compatible. Why would you level skills if a newbie with no skills is equaly dangerous as you?. About the number 5, have you tried Dead Frontier?. In that game, the economy is enterely held by players: gun are expensive, doctors gain money, cool clothing is f*cking expensive, etc. I think is close to what you want to say.

Nabael Yeah I'm sorry bout that, i'm just a pessimist out to ruin peoples dreams. I really do think the concept is cool, but even if you could solve all of the technical issues I stated, I can't see all the companies with the skills required working together to do it. Though I hope that my criticisms helped flesh out your idea a little better at least.

Aww, poor ol' yahtzee. Should've tried fueling your spaceship with coal. How you'd know coal could power a spaceship is beyond me but it seems to work.

Ahh, nope. not really. I tried it thinking it was ridiculous... then it worked. -_- Unfortunately I never got far in that game, I beat the ufo first time through a combination of sheer luck and bandages but just never got into it like terraria

I gotta admit, the first time I played Starbound it was like 4am on Christmas Day (oh how cliche) and I couldn't even get wood from my planet without being pinned down and noshed on by the local wildlife. Starbound is fun once you get past the initial difficulty and manage to get a weapon and something better than a Matter Manipulator. And you can go into battle pantsless, so this game is always gonna be an 11/10 for me.

Yeah, now you get sent to some sort of sci-fi environment where you can't mine or place anything, even though thats *the entire point of the game*!

Stanisław Wiśniewski adventuring, killing monsters, and looting is the base of the game. Mining is only to get resources. You want to go get resources on a mission?

the planets in starbound actually do have borders, if you keep going right you'll end up back where you started because it loops.

Just a heads up, My experience with Starbound went more or less the same as yours, but being a survival wilderness game vet, I decided to use coal for fuel and that worked. everything else was the same. Down to the UFO asploding my house.
