I switched from eating apples to native fruit. I can pick papaya most any day, and I have a couple jackfruit trees on my place, or I can buy that and mangoes. We also buy a watermelon every week. We also buy all our meat and vegetables and fish from the local palengke. The tomatoes are always green, but that is how they sell them here. I have become accustomed to eating local food. I like it. I do buy a 5 KG bag of oats every few months

Not sure about the apples you can get in Bohol.....but I have to say that I buy apples in Tescos and Sainsburys and they seem to keep forever in the fridge....no sign of deterioration after 3 or 4 weeks at least!.....and they're grown in Kent UK

Being transported afar and sold on supermarket shelves means they must do 'something' to keep them fresh -- it's the "something" that worries me.

Good to see you again. In the US pension benefits or social security here are required now to be direct deposit. Not sure checks are even an option. Happy Trails

I receive my SS by direct deposit -- not sure where the talk of "checks" came from -- does anyone use checks nowadays?

Apart from apples it is true that UK is in a bit of a mess right now.....cost of houses and rents are insane, especially in the south east....

Governments on either side of politics don't seem to be able to stop the downward slide.....especially since the lunatic Brexit vote.....

@@SternDrive whats the problem ? Inflations is a world wide problem, so that has made goverments unpopulaer all over the world, then there is emigration ? The Philipines move to Canada,USA,UK and EU and Westeners move to the Philippines ?? Sounds fair ?. Canada soon have an election, so you might get a new goverment good luck.

Could you not grow apples and tomotoes?

You make sense, I should use our land to help myself. I'm not sure about growing apples but have read up about growing tomatoes which does seem do-able even for a city boy like me. 😁

Apples need very cold temperatures during Winter months in order to set fruit, which the warm all year Central Philippines does not have...
