In the Corps, each person carried a shelter half and a tent pole. The shelter halves connected together and the poles were collapsible into two parts, so thy fit in an Alice pack. Each person also had four tent metal stakes

I'm sure if you wanted to save weight instead of the military surplus tent poles.. you carry two collapsible lightweight trekking poles... In any event I prefer this design over most of them.. it might be tight in there but it is snug and comfy and much more protective than other design tarp configurations..

Yes, you could definitely do that instead. Thanks for watching!

Something helpful for those that maybe in a higher temp and especially those in more of a desert type area such as Utah, Arizona, and Nevada is to flip it over facing the reflective side out.

Thank you! The pack is from Finland. I bought it after much research from a company called Lamnia. Here is the link: www.lamnia.com/en/p/37109/backpacks-bags-versipacks/savotta-jaakari-m-backpack I also made a video about this pack: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5Pdn2yOgJh5Y8U

Tarp shelter are fine when you have far weather evenings, but doesn't work when you have 20-30mph winds in down pour and on the ground it's gurarantee you won't fine a dry area.
@WayPointSurvival6 жыл бұрын
Very true. Of course, we are talking about survival training or bushcraft where we are trying to minimize the weight and mass that we carry. That's why ground selection is of the utmost importance when placing a tarp shelter. High ground is better than flat ground even if it's less comfortable. Of course you can trench around the shelter to divert some of the water etc. but if it's a real downpour with heavy winds and rain you will probably get at least a little damp. Always carry a ground mat of some kind and a heavy duty garbage bag or two for laying on the wet ground. Another option is to use a hammock and tarp, but they can also be problematic in heavy storms. Even some tents don't work well in 20-30 mph winds. Good comment.

Very nice James. Could you add extra tent clips to it and then use rope and tent pegs for extra stability in the wind?
@WayPointSurvival6 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! It has almost unlimited possibilities for setup.

Great video. At a distance I thought the purple flowers were a type of nettle similar to something we have . Guest appearance by large white pup . I’ve seen you and others use the tarp clamps and always forget about them when I’m in one the large large lumber yards . I’d have to opt for an 8 by 10 I think. I have a few inches more length. Thanks for the tips

Thank you, yes you do indeed get quite a few more square feet under the 8x10 tarp.
