This is going to be a great series!!! Thank you. I really do have to get myself a smaller bag with maybe just a 10 c’s for a day hike instead of bringing my main bag with me even on a simple hike. I really have to try and keep it simple.

10 c's is a great place to start. I did a video about the 10 c's plus 2, care and calories. Care being a small first aid kit. Would enjoy seeing your kit when you set it up.

British Gsr field pack is a nice 'Satchel' type bag, I have the mtp variant but the desert is better imo eclxcept that it's plce instead of molle but that's easily adapted inb.🤘

I just started camping in Mt Hood forest. I realized you really need to have your act together to survive in an area like that. Thank you for the lesson.

I love the area you live in. I'm in Silverton so we have lots of mountain range but I like the dryer region better. The pine trees are awesome out there and fire material is easier to find especially fatwood. Everything in the Silverton area is wet until mid summer . I love Oregon but the politics are making me consider moving out of Marion County further east.

Totally get where you are coming from on the politics

If you stitch some nano or paracord around the edge of your basha with 1" tabs you have 'infinite' tieout points and can really seal up an irregular pitch🤘

I can tell you're really liking that 5.5 lol, I can understand I like mine too but it's is the 3v version. Its to bad those tarps arent available anymore I never ended up getting one, I guess I'll just have to make my own 🤣 thanks for showing!
@ochocobushcraft1742Ай бұрын
Lol! I really like the 5.5, and the 8 a lot! 5Col survival supply is supposed to start manufacturing the bushcraft outfitters tarps, but who knows when.

@@ochocobushcraft1742 well thats good news but they won't be cheap, material costs have gone up alot, like everything else

Dan what is your take on the critters; Red ants, spiders, ticks, scorpions and snakes when sleeping on the ground.
@ochocobushcraft1742Ай бұрын
I always put Repel on my clothing before I head out. This is the kind made specifically for clothing. This keeps ticks off me. No rattle snakes in the higher Ochocos. Ants are the issue, and I just do my best to avoid them. Late summer I'll carry one of those Coghlans mosquito nets. Makes a little pyramid. Then I can rest peaceful. Would definitely recommend one.

I enjoy bushcrafting, learning skills and hearing others share their experiences. I believe in having a three day survival/get home bag. It makes sense to prepare. But to be honest almost everyone knows that beneath all of this is the idea that we need to prepare for surviving the end of civilization. Yes we talk about that too but never or almost never talk about that unsolvable and Un survivable problem of what do you eat after your supplies are gone. You simply cannot get enough calories or protein from the plants and edibles you can gather in the wild. And hunting and fishing is so hit or miss that it cannot be depended on. So all of the youtubers chose to simply not deal with this issue. Did you know that the winner of Alone season 9 stuffed himself before the challenge gaining 60 lbs of fat just so he could survive the Un survivable longer than the others? This is the biggest problem that hangs over all preppers and survivalists and bushcrafters and no one will talk about it. Let's put this on the table and deal with it.
