As this stream is running through your very own property it might be worth sending a few water samples to a lab for analysis. Knowing "for sure" that this water is going to be safe to drink over the year would be a great find for you and your preparedness efforts. Fingers crossed :)

Very informative ways to have some safe drinking water. Very much welcomed this information. In the world we live in today if, someone figured out to knock out the electric for a number of days or weeks one needs to know ways to get safe drinking water. When my Dad was out hunting or trapping he got a drink out of a creek he came upon. Mom told him it was a good way to end up sick because, he didn't know what was in it. But, he survived it without anything harming him from drinking it!!

I see people show off their metal canteen cups or bottles, but I think you should have two containers so that, as you did in the video, you can collect the "raw" water and then pour it through a bandana, tee shirt, coffee filter or any piece of cloth and filter out floating debris. If you don't then your just cooking that stuff and making a soup. So I appreciate that you featured this in your video. I'll also add that if you have to "bug out" or "get home" that double walled bottles, mugs or a thermos would be nice to keep food and beverages hot or cold. Sometimes, people become such "experts" that they are not able to think with an open mind and many are promoting specific products that they use. I find you guys to be more open minded, practical and realistic in your expectations and suggestions of what people can do.

listening to the guy from Alone that Jordan guy who was so cool. His strategy on building water tolerance was pretty smart. Start with a sip of raw water from your source every few days, work up to about a glass every few days, then every day, then your acclimated. No more need to filter so long as you know your source well.

I'm completely sold on the grayl. I carry one and a spare filter in my ruck. I live in Texas, and most of the time its blazing hot outside, so I don't really want to build fires unless I'm cooking. I don't want to have to build a fire in 100+ weather, then wait for the water to cool down enough to drink. The grayl is quick fast and to the point. I can drink until my guts are full, then fill up my canteen and keep moving.

Great video. I have that same Stanley metal cup with the green cups. I took the green lift tab off of the lid and replaced it with a key chain ring. That allows me a way to lift the lid and have a place to place a hook 🪝 in the ring to be able to secure it over a fire 🔥 if you need to boil water. That plastic tab will break or fall off when you need it most. This is NOT my idea. I saw it on a KZbin video some years ago from another reviewer. Enjoy.

Great information! If you absolutely have no time or cant filter the water you can get by with drinking it and wont be sick for a day or two if it isnt clean. Itll get you by but if the water is contaminated you'll be pretty sick and will lose more fluids than you took in when that time comes. This may be handy for an escape/evasion situation or when you know you'll be able to get to help within that time frame. I would still recommend listening to these guys but just figured I would throw it out there as an option as well.

Activated charcoal, bought from aquarium suppliers, is better than ordinary charcoal, if you can't be bothered making your own. It costs a couple of dollars a bag. Potassium Permanganate will not only purify the filthiest water imaginable (assuming you'd filtered it first) but will also remove two heavy metals from the water. Just a couple of grains is all that's required per litre of water and it's good to drink, wash, cook, clean wounds, treat trenchfooot, etc, in under an hour. It has antibacterial, antifungal properties and is used in many national water filtration plants, worldwide. Stains water pink to purple, but harmless. Not a long term solution, please note. Iodine has similar qualities, again, removing another two heavy metals. Just a drop or two per litre is sufficient. It's added to table salt by manufacturers, incidently, and keeps our thyroid gland regulated, so should only be used under medical advise by those with over or under active glands. I carry a small bag of charcoal, a dozen or so grains of PP and a few drops of iodine in all my edc, bugout and hiking bags.

Great info! Thanks. Something I'm still struggling to understand, and I'll get the example you gave from the water source, which I have one nearby, is that I read somewhere that there still could be chemicals (and metals?) present in the water. Maybe from something around that area, that made it into the soil etc.. is that true? If so, do we need to filter or desinfect, and how? Thanks!

You can also use a plastic water bottle and leave sitting in the sun to decontaminate most parasites and bacteria
