We had a great meeting at church and everyone is on the same page for beefing up security. I hate that it is necessary but it is.

They approached the Navy SEALs with a calming breathing method, squared breathing or yoga breathing. They generally scoffed at the idea, they didn't need yoga breathing. So they came back and said we have this new method called tactical breathing. They loved it. All they did was change the name. I think of that with rubber bands being called ranger bands. Rubber bands aren't cool.

Enjoying seeing how you approach your situation. I’m retired now. I live in the mountains of Virginia, but used to work in an urban area 45 miles and one mountain away. My backup transportation at work was a bike in the back of my truck. So my get home bag was kept at 20-25Liters, with no hip belt, and as light as possible. I carried pepper spray for dogs and people, large flashlight for defense or for seeing at a greater distance, and pistol, with 3 mags ( 46 rds) that had raised tritium night sights and weapons light. I carried Frog togg rain pants and M81 Gortex Jacket. And a fleece warming layer and fleece watch cap, and work and insulated gloves. I carried 2 liters of water and 20 oz Gatorade for hydration. And four snickers bars. I always carry a Swiss Army knife, and added a small roll of one inch gorilla tape, mil bug net, and headlamp. Because there are plenty of places to hang a simple hammock off the road I carried one all 4 seasons. I use a SOL Mylar bivy with a small hole at the end to let the hammock line through so I can pull the bivy up all around me like a cocoon while hanging. The Mylar reflects a lot of heat. But every where you touch it it will be cold. I bring a folding Matt to use in the hammock or on the ground. I wear every layer Ive got including rain gear to stay warm. The small hole in the Mylar bivy is reinforced with Gorilla tape so it won’t tear. I use a poncho as a tarp or as a cover over the bivy. An Alcohol cat tin stove with GI cup and HEET yellow bottle, is essential to increase core temperature with hot tea, hot choc, or ramen. I don’t sleep on the ground unless I really need to stay super hidden. Even in winter camping I pitch my tarp straight down to the ground on both sides of the hammock to block wind and retain heat. I’m not looking to spend the night or day camping but to get 2-4 hours of rest if I can’t make it home right away..

Kudos to you, (all over you). Most peoople say they like the 'down' because they can squeeze the air out, and take up very little room. They fail to realize some take that literally, and store it squeezed up. You explained why that is not done, when in storage sitting around. Overall, well done. Thank you for posting. The only additional topic I can think of is the bug out plan. What is the destination and the buyout bag should get you to that destination. I do not at all expect you to reveal your personal plan. Tying the overall planned destination, the route and a contingency route to the bag would complete the thought process for a lot of folks. Keep sprite/7up in your vehicle for winter. The sugar and carbonation keeps it from freezing. If you open it before warming it above 32F, it will freeze solid when you open it.

I'm throwing some pain meds in there. You never know what can pop off (tooth pain, headache, hurt yourself somehow) and pain or a temperature could keep you from reaching a place of medical help. My combat medic buddy also keeps magnesium supplements. He told me he gives it to his ops guys and it works better than acetaminophen (for headaches).

The Gore-Tex bivy had mine for well over 20 years would not give it up for anything especially in the winter. I have woken up in the morning in the rain and I'm dry inside that bad boy on the ground. As far as carrying a 10 liter bladder, each liter weighs like 2.2 lb. You're in Georgia and I'm in Alabama there's water everywhere. Just carry a way to filter or boil it. I'm more concerned about weight in the summertime than I am in the winter time. Remember travel light freeze at night. Good video keep up the good work

Lots of great info and items in this video! It'd be great if in a comment you could make a list that we could print so that in case we can't take notes that's enough or don't know the exact spelling of a particular item brand it would be very helpful to have a list to print out please. One thing I noticed, you put the map and compass into a pouch one the backpack. It didn't look like it was protected by anything other than the actual backpack pouch. I think it would be a good idea for the paper map to be in an extra waterproof bag in the actual pouch as double protection because if the map gets wet it would get ruined. I was in the Infantry... blah blah blah. Anyways, put a wet weather bag in your ruck and fill it with all of your clothing or anything you don't want to get wet and pack it either according to weight(heavy things higher and closer to the frame) or according to importance(things you use more often towards the top of the wet weather bag) or both. Learn your equipment, test it, figure out what works and what doesn't, it's okay to not use something you bought if it doesn't make you and your gear fluid(functional) leave it at home, just like your weapons the gear is an extension of you to increase your lethality and survivability. Also excluding the ruck the BIVY is the best thing, it's water proof/resistant so even if it rains you're good, wrap up your ruck with the poncho and curl up in the bivy with your boots and socks at the bottom of the bivy so the can dry while you sleep and also so snakes, scorpions, spiders, or mice don't hide in your boots. Be careful not to make holes in them! And just in case bring a small sewing kit(there's a small usgi style one). Extra lighters. Extra 550 and 100mph tape. Always always always more socks, take care of your feet, it holds all the weight of your body so good boots and socks. I like Merrell boots. Winter time wool socks. Anything that goes in my bags will be in either a plastic bag or wet weather bag so even if it rains or snows my stuff is dry. Also as an Infantryman you never leave your primary more than an arms length away from you and you hold it at night like it's your woman(inside the bivy with you). To each their own but ima have extra ammo. 7 mags or 210 rounds aint gonna get anyone anywhere just so people realize that. Fight Tonight is what we used to say in Korea, on the border, because we never knew if we would be fighting that night against the North Koreans. So if you were to have to fight tonight are you ready? Make sure your go to war bags are packed and when the time comes you're ready. Also for anyone that doesn't know your poncho and poncho liner(woobie) are an amazing combination year round that are invaluable. The woobie or poncho liner dries quickly, it's comfy, cozy, and pretty dang warm not for a stand alone in the winter but when your it's a brisk 5am and you want to smoke a butt and drink a cup of coffee but you wanna feel cozy so you put on your fleece cap and fleece jacket combined with your woobie, a brisk morning just became a cozy morning lol. Anyways people this country is Mystery Babylon spoken of in Revelation. If you want truth open your Bible(KJV is hard but well worth the time). Jesus saved me from myself back in the beginning of 2021❤️ I was looking for love, joy, peace, a life worth living, or even just to feel something other than anger or sadness. I looked for fulfillment in many places trying to find my happiness. The problem was it was never attainable. When I felt how much Jesus loved me and how He washed me clean and how much peace He gave me, I couldn't even believe it. I still can't believe how much He has healed me. As things get harder and the world gets crazier, He is just giving me peace about it. It's not that I won't have to suffer but it's like life is so fragile and temporary, but the eternal is forever. We as a country have done so much evil it's actually crazy, most of it is behind closed doors under lock and key held by the occult. And we as a population have gone through generations of programming that has completely morphed what we perceive as reality. I didn't realize how much I was programed until Jesus got a hold of my life, ever since then I've been learning what that saying "truth is stranger than fiction" meant. Anyways don't wait to build your relationship with Jesus! He loves you and is the only one that will be able to help us through the times ahead, by His strength. I have ONE tiny addition, it'll take nearly no space atall-atall: A pencil sharpener. More than one reason for this. First, of course, it's the best way to sharpen your pencil. Next comes Fire (FAHR!!). You can use the pencil sharpener on some dry branches to make tinder. Finally, defense/offense/hunting tool. If you have a straight small branch, you can use it to whittle a sharp point on the end. Use your sharp pointy stick for things you would want to use a sharp pointy stick for. (Traps for game, frog-gig, fishin' spear... perhaps some other tools for other purposes.) Handy to have, doesn't weigh much atall, and don't take up very much space atall, neither.

I encourage; using a SeaLine water proofing bag, using a belt and harness with pouches and a smaller ruck, “dummy cording” your items to your pockets, large chunk of pitch wood, synthetic sleeping bag/ happy suit insulation, all for when circumstance conspires against you. The only thing maybe replacing my venerable M81 Woodland Gortex bivy bag is possibly the newer lighter weight “Special Forces” bivy. 2 Tarps OR a Poncho and a tarp combo in the mid latitudes, forest, swamps, desert, always.

Would be helpful to get the dry weight of that pack, plus your guidance on what percent body weight a pack should weigh for ground coverage in a foot-power bug out scenario.

I’ve never been a fan of the body weight percentage for a pack. That works fine for the military but for the general population it is not effective. How much you can carry very much depends on your health and fitness level. Are you overweight, underweight, sedentary, knee injuries, bad back? Put the items that you “NEED” in the pack. Train with that. If it’s no problem then you can add some of the “want-to-have” items.

I’d put the tarp at the top, it’s the first thing you’ll want to access if it’s raining and you need shelter. It’d be interesting to know the actual weight. My guess is you’re way over 25 pounds. But that’s the ultralight backpacking nerd in me coming out…

Excellent choices. Hard to see an extra. I am old and not as active, but as I recall things broke too often. You might consider a sail needle -- you have a multitool to pull it I generally had some fishing line for thread od course, since I had some fishing line I threw in a couple of hooks and weights just in case I need to extend the food. Winter up here means ice, so don't need fancy gear.

My bag is "weigh" too heavy but I always figured I could throw out or share some of the stuff I don't need if I feel it is slowing me down. If you weigh everything.... my pack, my "fishing gear", clothes I'm wearing, and all my food it is about 100 lbs. 50 or 60 of that is the pack 10 or 20 is food and water and the rest is tactical fishing gear. I am told that is too much but I can't seem to get it any lower without losing very important stuff.

100 pounds is a lot. That would definitely be too much for me to carry more than a couple of miles. I would suggest that you break the gear down into two piles. Need to haves and want to haves. Figure out which of the want to haves you really want to keep and try and do away with the rest. Also, look into lighter options that can still get the job done.

The only thing I can think of would be to put that sleeping bag in a waterproof 50l dry bag. They are pretty cheap insurance to have and you wouldnt need to compress it if you dont want. When i go hunting i throw my pillows and blankets in one just in case. Came in handy last time because i dropped it in a puddle as soon as i got there. Luckily, it was good to go.

I use pelter sport rangeguard earpro and each earcup has a mic so that I can tell where the amplified sound is coming from. (from the left or right etc) which is great for situational awareness. Do the walkers have a similar setup? The reason I ask is because the Walkers have an optional FRS radio attachment that the peltors do not, which I was interested in all things being equal

What do you oil your leather gloves with? I've only tried Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP but it is more of a solid wax cream. Good for boots but left my gloves a tad sticky. They have an oil version but I don't own any of that.

y use down on the east coast? A synthetic i think would be much better. Not as warm as down per inch of loft but the poly dont compress as much and drys better. Just a consideration from an old man.
