In a seep well never drink the water without dipping all the water out first and let the hole fill up again dip it out again don't drink it do this at least 3 times before you drink it. You will have much better cleaner water.

Several years ago Tom McElroy of Wild Survival did a 2 part video titled "Solo Survival: Surviving 1 week in the Wilderness with only a Knife". In that video he also showed how to make a container out of White Pine bark and used it to collect water from a grape vine. He said it gave the water a combination grape-pine taste. Maybe on your next video you could go in with no tools except your knowledge and skill.

This is the reason I've picked folding shovel in my Bug out Bag. Way more survival uses if you only can carry one. Sure, hatchet can fell any tree, is supreme for woodworking and as a weapon however I don't live in US and I'm more likely to be stopped on any checkpoint with a hatched then a shovel I would also want to add: ▪Dakota fire pit ▪Digging for edible roots (burdock, dandelion, cattail, red clover) ▪Earthworms can also be food ▪Obtaining larvae from anthills (speeds it up and reduces ant bites ▪Digging up latrines (and covering feces after each use) ▪Best tool to transport hot embers and ashes (e.g. to leach acorns) ▪Lifting pieces of moss upon collecting (speeds up shelter building) ▪Spare paddle

Using one tool, better have a real good sharpener and be very good at sharpening it alot... I think a 2 or 3 knife set up is recommended.. one for bushcraft, one for food prep, one for misc work like cordage and anything else.. plus if u have a Basecamp u can leave one with someone and go into thr woods with a good 2nd one

@@madbombermike yeah i have both also... depending on what you do with them the riflemans hawk makes much easier work falling a 8 or 10 inch pine treeand it seems i find myself needing the weight. I did try and skin and process a small Whitetail doe with the trail hawk lets just say it can be done and i need more practice but all in all they're both good tools

Jason's just going out there and doing the things without much preparation and a minimalistic approach to the stuff he carries. I guess your point is that one will never be stranded in a suburban green space with only a shovel. But I think it's more about learning to overcome obstacles and to build/fix things in unorthodox ways. I mean, he's got all the good stuff in his barn but he usually tries not to use it in order to make it harder for himself.
