My Marbles Camp Axe just came in the mail - $27.85 + shipping. Very pleased with the handle - I'm a longtime woodworker. The head taper needs some work but not as bad as I feared. Dimensions as advertised. Got myself a nice hatchet to make my own with a little filing, for less than $35 bux! To think I started with Swedish for Close to $200, did some research and found similar steel, forged (not by hand) with a quality Hickory handle and saved myself $165!

I know that being exhausted from one log isn’t just you. We went out this past weekend and sawing, splitting and shaving kindling for a full weekends fires completely wore me out. My wife and I aren’t in bad shape but that makes me completely rethink my ability to survive any nominal length of time in the wilds.

I bought 2 carpenters hachets, as soon as I get mask found or made for them , ill sharpen them up to carry in my hunting bags on my 4 wheelers, and get 2 folding saws with finer teeth . I keep unsented trash bags on them in the duffel ( game hunting)bags

I just bought a FISKARS copycat today(8/22/2022), made in India, called GroundWork 17.5" Chopping Axe at TSC on sale for $16.99. It is an almost complete duplicate of my larger FISKARS felling axe, except shorter, of course, with the same style carrying handle. Fairly sharp, "out of the box". I haven't got to try this out yet(raining outside), but this might be the best budget axe of all times! It took a razor sharp edge easily, too(shaved some arm hair off with it).

I wish I could remember the size and brand , I used when ,I was a child , had to be careful about tieing to the saddle , I left it , my gun boot ,bedroll, all in my aunts barn , when I went to ft Benning. Best hunting axe for chopping up in a tree . Probably a 20 inch handle , close to 3 lbs , chopped lots of wild game out of trees with it . After that I used a double bit axe .

The smokey mountain knife works seemd to have the best price. The head is made of 1045 carbon steel with a coating to help with corosion. The handle is U.S. hickory with a lanyard hole. Seems to be useful for camp firewood prep. Or taking a page from the beaver, you can worry a tree down. Good job Brian in a hot environment. I hate the humidity in Georgia glad I don't have to go to altlanta any more. I spent way too much time there. Retired now sitting in air conditoning watching videos. LOL

Man, kudos for the effort on this one! Great demonstration on why to bring a saw :-). I'm glad you didn't split pepe le pew, while balance testing. Nice looking ax. Nice demo on adjusting as needed to get fire! Estwing makes a great camp ax

Axes, Hatchets, Tomahawks are intended for Green Wood and not dry dead wood. Splitting Mauls are fir dry wood. Wood Saws are best for Dry Wood Cross Cutting like you tried doing. Do another Video on this Axe. Sharpen it up on camera. X2 speed or more. Then show us what it does with a good edge. Feather sticks. Carving meat for bbq. Then splitting wood. Then crosscutting...

Dang, Bryan! Chopping that log and it bouncing around gave me the chills. I could envision that "chopper" bounce towards your knee. I will vouch for the Marbles Camp Axe as I own one. I did buy a Hyde and Drink leather sheath and a leather protector for the neck. When I received it the axe edge was dull to say the least. After hours of filing and honing with a puck that baby was sharp! I chop logs and process them for my backyard BBQ's (do not like to cook food with charcoal...taste of the chemicals). Once a month I'll process a pile of wood and store them under my Hobo Camp tarp next to the tree securing the tree strap for the head of my hammock. I sharpen all of my knives and axes back there. It's my version of a test site for gear. Cannot wait for the cool weather to come and I'm able to sleep out there on occasion, especially when it's raining or snowing. I was going to buy a German made axe but ended up with the Marble after watching a Wranglerstar video. Another great axe is the Cold Steel Trail Boss. For those who want to carry a small chopping tool I found a Taiwanese hatchet called the "huiwill" and it comes with a well made riveted black canvas-like sheath that snaps to secure the tool. There's also a loop for belt carry. Rather than use my good knife I process (baton) wood with the hatchet. You cannot damage the darn thing. It's a full tang metal and looks to be precision formed for maximum effect; the edge is ulu shaped and 4 1/4 inches of nearly razor edge sharpness and the scales are a hard polymer. I carry it in my Emerson chest pack along with other survival tools and my CCW. I haven't done the "Bryan Stevens" balance test...yet...but however it lands or strikes it's guaranteed to do some damage.

Axe snobs call that handle a haft. I think. SMKW occasionally puts those on sale. Also know that Marbles sells several small axes like that and they all have the same head. I think they have about seven different axes, but only two different heads. I’ve been happy with the steel. It will take an edge. And keep it.

Well brothers, you can't be all sensitive and emotional about the edge or the handle for that matter on your axe. If you mess your axe edge up, grind it and resharpen. This is why you don't want it razor sharp, you'll roll or chip the edge. I use the edge on my camp axe to strike a farrow rod, my knives are too prescious to scuff them up with such things, if your knife is like your wife, then your axe is like the dirty harlot from the corner.
@strangebird644 жыл бұрын
Bro. You are so going to hurt yourself sitting there swinging that thing. Stand and stabilize for your own good. I'm surprised to see you, out of all people, handle this tool in this fashion. You'd get more power as well.
