When the weather gets nice you need to pull off the doors on the Gator and have someone paint the Survival Russia logo on them. That would look awesome.
@irony89085 жыл бұрын
"Survival Russia" logo is actually slightly edited Order of the Patriotic War 2nd class. Great Patriotic War is the name of the eastern front of WW2 from 22 June 1941 to 9 May 1945. It was awarded for heroic deeds in combat. Probably not something one would paint on a vehicle since many Russians know what it is and it could be interpreted as stolen valor.
@irony89085 жыл бұрын
Also s in SR looks stylized similarly to the one Waffen-SS used in their logo with Armanen runes. Even slight connection like that could cause some problems, since Russians still feel deeply about WW2 sacrifices and loses, which were enormous. Come to think about it, not the best choice of the logo on Larses part all in all.

Maybe the modern gators that were marketed to mining,logging and power companies had the option of scheduling the bulk of their operations in no snow or after temperatures really dropped thereby avoiding what I call packing snow that seems to build up on the inside of the tracks.Obviously an active military didn't have this option and weren't concerned as much with the buying price of the vehicle that would have to increase with optional ice cleaners that were a necessity for their all weather operations.I like the way you're progressively getting a feel for what the gator is capable of while looking out for what it is not.After all we both know any vehicle can get stuck or throw a track and that video is one that would be less than awesome.Your instinct about when to use your various vehicles,and when to park them has served you well so far.Well done Lars!

To prevent snow buildup in your tracks, avoid operating the gator right after a snowfall. New snow has sharp, sticky crystals and clumps easily because it's relatively warm. If you wait a day or two, the snow will "transform" by becoming harder and less sticky.

As your confidence in the gator grows, so does the potential for adversity. In Canada, we love to get stuck, because the real thrill is in getting out. Learning the capacity of your vehicle requires pushing the limit, which is fine when help is a phone call away. Totally respect your situation where prudence is essential, in keeping with the philosophy that preparation and anticipating potential pitfalls, can make the all the difference.

For the ice/snow build up just take a long pike/bar along that has a chisel-shaped end and when needed just chip out the stuff between the wheels on bottom, then move a tank length to chip out the bottom track again. Thus you remove top and bottom for a while of trouble-free driving.

G'day Lars, It's fantastic to see you, your mate and The Gator make a real expedition over new ground where you discovered the benefits of having a tracked vehicle that can 'make its own road'. Seeing that huge heater in The Gator reminded me of old WW2 documetaries about how the Germans had to light fires under their tanks to get them going in the Russian winter. While Russian vehicles had engine 'warmers' built in. Awesome! The Gator was certainly a great investment. All the best to you, your family and friend for the New Year. Cheers, BH

Survival is always faced with limtations, degrees of difficulty and boundaries and borders, beyond which the problems become far greater. Wanting, willfulness and trying to please others always wants to press on, asap, and yet even the gator, tank, has its limitations and its great to see you assessing and trying to anticipate when one of its borders has been reached. As you have said many times, the first tool of survival is a brain, and the second tool is described by how you use the abilities of the first tool.
