That is Florida, and we drive thru that all day long. Leon, my 78' FJ-40 Landcruiser has driven a mile or more from Green Swamp Management Area with headlights under water, and no snorkel, to road 579. It is what it is. What's for dinner? Anything you can catch, from frogs, to gator, hogs and deer are near, and palmetto hearts become boiled cabbage, or a quick uncooked tender snack, if you don't want a fire, or leave smoke. Where he is, in Oceola, there is a credible black bear population and Florida panther. String a hammock off the ground with a tarp overhead to stay dry, but the most critical item, will be your bug netting on your hat and the bug screen around that taped hammock. This guy has it together, no issues here, have followed his channel for quite some time. Every geography offers different oppirtunities, and...their unique challenges. Always great video, thanks guy.

@@SurvivalTheory My comment wasn't meant as a criticism, we "natives" do the driving thru just for the challenge of it. Only time "Leon" ever got stuck, was on my land in Green Swamp, frame got hung up on top of palmetto roots, omnidirectional tires dung enough sand to leave me high n dry. Walked out to the road, got lucky, a logging skidder with tires higher than I stand tall, pulled that FJ 40 3 feet, and it was gtg. Best rig I ever saw, was an old aluminum 4 cycl. flathead Willies, it ran mudholes like a water bug. I watch your channel, a subscriber, only reason I waded in this vid, is, I've hunted where you were, and been pretty much from the Keys, to the Panhandle, and in between. Since we are "local" risk equates to fun. That's not the case, when you're out on your own as you operate. Apologies if you took offense.

Here is some good advice on something I kinda learned by accidental convenience. I do a little stealth camping in Florida. I went out after 5-6 days of rain so it was difficult to get my wood gassifier going good. Well I just happened to be in a partial palm forest. By the way good place to camp because you don't have to worry about falling branches. Any way the leaves after they have turned brown flame on like the torch. I haven't tried to fire em up with a ferrule rod, but I bet they would. The other thing is that the stalks of the leaves have a waxy coating to where they dont get saturated like normal wood. They are also very easy to chop down to size, I use my big chopper for that, and really easy to split. I just use my Mora for that. The thing is they burn great. Give it a try some time. Also once you get a fire going put your wet wood around it so that it dries oyt.

It is really not easy to find really dry wood down here in Florida. I’m in the Tampa area and we have a ton of great wood sources, oak and pine all over the place. We were out this past weekend and fought all weekend with the fire. We ran across a downed slash pine and cut a huge branch off the stem, got some beautiful fat wood and a little bit of decent firewood for a coal base. The oak as dry as it seemed just wouldn’t go. I split it down to tiny pieces so we could cook over it. No matter what though, we were in the woods and it was awesome as always

Very nice video! In the Osceola, dead standing pine with no bark is your best bet for firewood. I would bring an ax or a big kukri for felling those trees. Pick a tree about 8 to 10 inches bottom diameter at most. Dead palm fronds can be crushed for fire starting and the whole palm frond will be better than newspaper for starting fires. There was a 400 pound bear out by 17 mile campground so be careful, he is territorial. Let me know if want some help recording a video, my wife and I hammock camp as well although she is more comfortable in her hammock.

@Richard That, is north Florida, near but west of Jacksonville, and likely near Lake City. Okeefenokee Swamp nearby, headwaters of the Swanney River, with drains that flood plain. Bear, hog, deer, some panther, lots of gators, fish in creeks or ponds, frogs, food galore. He is in pine flats and palmetto, nearby will be oak hammoks, and cypress swamps. The dangers there are as follows, eastern rattlesnakes, two varieties of water moccasins, a coral snake here n there, black widow spiders under wood laying on the ground, chiggers, and skeeters. Upping the winged danger, red hornets, some paper wasps, yellow jacket nests. Keep your eyes open, move deliberately, alter course when necessay, lol, and you return in tact. Bring a compass.
