I kept my bag simple. A liter of Bourbon, 2 liters of Coca Cola, a carton of cigarettes, and a butane lighter.( For my cigarettes) My after action report: " I got drunk. I fell down. Slept like a baby. Woke up and the disaster was over."

If you have a bug out bag, you need a plan. Here's a simple 5 step process to create the plan and then work to make it better. Thanks for watching and feel free to share how you plan ahead for the disaster situation we hope NEVER happens. Cheers!

Yeah it’s good to be getting back into the swing of KZbin. Basically took this year off to focus on launching a small business.

Since Helene provided two distinct scenarios - mass evacuation and an unfortunate disaster on an uninformed NC area - there has been a shift in prepping focus. 'Bugging out' readiness (and effective communications) has now become a priority. After all - how can we prepare for what the people of western NC experienced? Take a look at the suddenness of earthquakes, mudslides and unpredictable tornadoes. Stock all the food, water, ammunition and backup power systems you want but it's all worthless when it's washed away, burned, buried by an earthquake/mudslide or ripped to shreds. Most people's experience during natural disasters will likely be evacuation (if alerted) and raw survival if not (alerted). Point being - if not alerted and mother nature runs over you - what will you have left to survive with? Hurricane Helene certainly opened my eyes to reprioritizing what will be most likely necessary when SHTF or at least a natural disaster comes for me and mine. Well packed GO BAGS/EVAC plans and communication tools/skills are my 'new' focus areas. I'm not saying having a month's worth of food and water stocked up and maybe a backup energy source are bad ideas - that could get you through an extended power outage or bad winter storm if those are likely things in your area. I'm saying if you are in harm's way and you have time - evacuation is going to be your plan and that should be your focus. Some attention should be given to what the 'aftermath' picture might look like as well.

that's an excellent point. the best option is to prep for the most common disasters in your region. the good news is these events are quite rare at this scale. the best option IMO is to strike a balance between caching, prepping on site and then factoring in your bug out bag and related support for evac.

The last storm we avoided all locked down interstates/fuel shortages. We took back roads last minute from outside Tampa all the way to south of Tallahassee. Just another day in paradise
