I would go a step further and suggest both a headlamp for general hands-free use, and a penlight for pupillary response and other tasks. Extra points if they work with AA or AAA cells. Everything should run on the same battery tipe (oxipulsimeter, blood pressure monitor, lights...)

Awesome kit! I bought the non-waterproof kit, large kit which is basically the same, but includes a 50-piece mini kit which I wanted for the bike. This kit is probably one of the top 2 or 3 best IFAKs on Amazon IMO, and although all might need items added, there is plenty of room to make these ideal for individual needs.

I checked on the combine dressing: These multi-layered and highly absorbent pads make for the perfect wound care solution. The combine dressing is most commonly used to pack large bleeding wounds after initial bleeding has been controlled, however they are useful in other scenarios as well.

Great kit and great review! I bought a similar one about a year ago, and added the following items: a mini headlamp, some waterproof paper, an alert card, glucose tablets, rehydration salts, hemostatic powder, eugenol ( for toothaches) and activated carbon pills (for food intoxication). For those to fit in, I reduced the amount of bandaids and gauze pads.

Just a comment on your med envelopes. I prepare similar pill envelopes of meds for all my kits but in each little baggie I also include a slip of paper with med name, dosage, what used for (ie nausea, pain, allergy, etc) and expiration date. You may know what that color/shape of pill is but not every grabbing the kit will. I like to pack the little individual pill bags with the maximum dosage allowed per 24 hour period so I know if I give one away or anyone else uses it they cannot easily overdose on whatever it is

One more point about tourniquets, people that actually know how to use them probably wouldn't trust one that comes in a Chinese kit. In my opinion, the lack of medicines and tourniquet are actually a plus since it makes the kit cheaper and, you showed those can be added without issues.

You pretty much covered it all with what you added, but there were two other things you might want to add. I would have added a pack of Kleenex, a couple of Tampons and some female sanitary pads. Those last two are great for wounds, especially the tampons for gun wounds, but also if the person you suddenly needs them the trip your on can turn south really quick. I unfortunately know that from personal experience. Why she didn’t pack those personal items when we portaged two days in a canoe in Algonquin park I’ll never understand. My family always said that if you are still talking to each other after you spend a week in Algonquin, then your meant to be together. Lol
@KitbashedSurvival2 жыл бұрын

@Inko_Inko2 жыл бұрын
Tampons are great for absorbing blood, but not for applying pressure, which is the primary method of stopping bleeding. If you have the time to prepare (as one does when making a first aid kit), there are better solutions such as pressure bandages (Israeli, etc.) and hemostatic gauze. The Kleenex tissues or antibacterial wet wipes would be a great addition though.
@brenturquhart70902 жыл бұрын
@@Inko_Inko The idea of using a tampon for a gun wound is a valid. Actually tampons have been used for gun wound dressing for years. Of course pressure is required, pressure plus a tampon in the wound saves lives. Tampons will expand and fill the cavity left from the bullet or knife. This creates provides pressure in all directions. Of course you also need to apply a pressure bandage over it, but with that and the tampon inside the wound applying pressure outwards, you have greatly improved the odds of survival for the wounded person. The tampon is also used in those situations where you cannot compress the wound. DARPA put out a request for companies to design an infield dressing for bullet wounds. The item that they would use as a base line was actually a tampon. They wanted something that would work better. The final winner was one that had small sponges in a large injector that when used the small sponges would expand and stop the bleeding. So they took a perfectly good 25 cent tampon and replaced it with a $500 copy that didn’t do as good as a job as the tampon. Lol. Pretty typical of the military.

Very nice kit but I would leave it in that plastic bag that it comes with for extra protection. I don't have problems with medication coming from China because most of our medication comes from China. Trying to put a kit like that together yourself will cost quite a bit of money and lots of time finding all those little pieces one by one. Most people who are working 9 to 5 don't have time to put these things together. I'm a retired Carpenter 6 years ago. When I retired I sold 50% of my equipment and 99% of it was made in China. After many years of using it everything was still in perfect working shape.
