Fun fact that comes to my mind every wind storm in AZ is that before we moved full time in our RV I had a nightmare of blowing over while in an RV, which made no sense when I had it, cause why would I ever be in one!?😏 We fled from Florida to Georgia during a big hurricane in 2017, but still had 70 mph winds, so yeah every shake/rock makes one wonder if this is a good idea, but now we are a few months past 8 yrs! 🤗 Wife workamps 3 days a week at a park we came to just before 2020, and is why we did pretty well during the nearly yr and a half we didn't have income other than someone saying they felt led to give us something we never asked for, and the last couple of yrs we've worked 8-9 weeks a year at a mall taking Santa and Bunny pictures to cover our $200 a month in bills we have, and living expenses of gas, food, and this year $4,100 tires for the house, cause ours are 8 yrs old, and we couldn't go anywhere else until we got new ones, and we put on $400ish tires on the SUV! Now we must find a good solar kit, and then we can possibly move on!(?) Funny thing is we had more $ in the bank the beginning of this year than we ever had with a full time yearly job for over 16 yrs! People asked us how we were going to get $ when we started over 8 yrs ago, and we said God will take care of us, and we have been taught by Him since then that those weren't empty words!! Sure has been a stress reduction lifestyle from working 9-5 just to have a bunch of stuff that ends up owning you instead of you owning it!

@@OpenRoading I've been running the sound for the church in our park, and my parents, for the last couple of years, have come here to lead the music. (They've full timed for over 14 yrs now in the same RV!) First of 2021, I believe it was, our pastor died, and another guy took over as pastor, who got stomach cancer just before he came back this past fall, and there's some micromanaging going on by some that desire controlling everything, which right now has been a great time for them to get away with it. So the spirit of the church isn't what it was, but also the park itself is feeling colder, as people in a 55+ park disappear, and change about like working fast food! We feel like our time here is drawing to a close, but we don't know when, or where we are to go, but when we started this 8+ yrs ago it was always with an end in mind of being with like-minded people in a place in the West "circling the wagons," so to speak, living together growing food, and such, so I'm still expecting to understand it better by and by, and Him leading us to the person with the answer of where to go!😉 Till then He'll take us to another stop over! Started 2015, but instead of like most, who get to travel, we went straight to FL for nearly 3 yrs, and then AZ for around 5 yrs, but both had Devine purpose we discovered as we've been there! (I want to see the world, but we keep running out of money, so we stay awhile working to make money, amongst other issues, which have been mostly for my wife while here, like her totaling our car during the second time she drove it after we got here, (she spent 4 days in the hospital, but the first time she drove here she got a $275 speeding ticket taking back a Redbox movie .9 miles away!🙄 I do ALL the driving outside of the park!) then they found a growth that led to a hysterectomy, and cataract surgery, since we've been here! Even that was a blessing, cause our Cavalier became an Escape, which is why our pastor, who died, was able to tell us he wanted us to start taking clothes, and stuff out to the homeless, so our car has been totally full for 3+ yrs, but even that door seems to be closing as we can't find people anymore, cause they are being chased off!😢 Yep, the tides a changing, which is OK, but it has been comfortable sitting here, plus I actually hate driving this cracker box on wheels!😏😖 Living in, great, driving 😝😂 We don't do enough to keep a channel going, but some of our life in an RV should have been filmed for more of a movie! Like when we came back to the park, where we were going to be Camp Host, after that hurricane ended, (we were gone a week, cause our AC pulley froze breaking our fan belt, and it took a few belts before we realized a good inch or so was missing! Much longer story.) we'll a tree was halfway across the road, so I decided to go around it instead of stopping and moving it, so I slid our RV into a ditch, and durn near rolled it over, but fortunately a local had a big farm tractor, and threw a chain under my front, and I punched the fuel while turning hard right, as he pulled to climb out of the wet sand! At the time we were so messed up we didn't even think to take a picture much less film it! It makes one nervous to climb up from the driver's seat to open the door and then jump down to the ground, but then having to climb back in hoping not to tip it over!😳 First time dumping into a tote I learned why that little capped breather hole has to be uncapped when filling! Ol Faithful mean anything? Last time I wore those shoes!🤢💩 Fun times at RV High!!

I say that some people on here think she’s a terrible human because we made a bet and I lost and had to risk my life eating a..,banana muffin. #OhTheHorror 😂) Anyway - where was I, OH the mask! So I do want to try a mask sometime - probably in alsaks. As to sounds I’m super weird about that. I can sleep through most anything so at the moment I don’t need them, but I’m actually worried I would sleep through something important (smoke detector) if I had ear plugs in…so I’m not gonna give those ones a try. -J

That wind was crazy! My wife and I took a trip to Texas last February and we were caught in a windstorm coming out of Big Bend. It was whiteout conditions and the scariest thing I have ever been in. I was driving and couldn't see more than just a few feet in front of me. It was like being in a blizzard, except with dust. We took a trip around Texas and there was wind pretty much everywhere we went off and on. It was the windiest trip I have ever been on, but the worst was that windstorm. I have no idea how high the winds we experienced were but the news said gusts in some areas were up to 90 mph. I learned that Texas in the wintertime can be a very windy place! Glad you survived with no damage!

We spent four months in western Canada and Alaska in 2023. The Milepost is a wonderful resource while traveling to and from Alaska. I think you will find that there will be no measurable difference between the '23 and '24 versions. I'd put that $25 or so toward another use. One of the resources we used the most while in Alaska was a roll up map of all the Alaska State Parks that we got for $2 at the visitor center / ranger station in Tok. It will be an awesome experience.

Happy Birthday. As for the number of abandon dogs, you would be surprised to know a lot of them are not dumped. But are in fact run away’s, that got out of someone’s yard due to either inadequate fencing or negligence. I cannot tell you the % that are abandonments, dumped dogs and run aways. What I can tell you is that Texas has a huge problem with puppy mill’s, that contributes to the problem because of mills dumping dogs for whatever reason. And people getting a dog from a puppy mill, or disreputable breeder that they have an extremely hard time training so they dump it often because they don’t have the patience or money to spend on getting basic training.
@OpenRoading7 ай бұрын
I'd agree with you on the runnaways except we live in an age where you can easily throw a $10 tag on a collar or if you have a little more disposable income get your pet microchipped. One of the oil workers was said, and this has stuck with me, that there is a cultural problem when it comes to domestic animals in certain areas. Dogs are disposable rather than cared for. Beyond the dumping of animals when the become less fun or aren't taking to training, this speaks to the lack of care put into even simple safeguards should your dog run away. When we adopted Trinity the very first thing we did was get a tag with our phone number on it and made sure it was very secure. As soon as we can we plan on getting her chipped and may even go so far as to get an apple air tag collar since we move so often. To me, having the dog identifiable as our is the most basic form of saying "This dog is part of our family and we want to protect her." While I don't have a solution to the problem, I am 100% against puppy mills and I would think they are actually one of the biggest contributors to said cultural problem since a puppy mill treats dogs as commodities and female dogs as factories. (a note to anyone getting angry at me while reading this - I am not saying all texans hate dogs. I'm also not saying other states don't have issues with stray dogs. But you cannot have all your dog shelters full to overflowing and stray dogs roaming the streets and not think that something is going wrong when it comes to domestic animal care as a whole.) -J

Joseph, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who is very wary of storms and high wind when traveling in the RV! Our first trip after acquiring our travel trailer was to Northern Texas and that very first night we had a tornado warning!😰 You all handled it beautifully! That's such a great tip to bring in the slides.I had never heard of that! Thank you so much for sharing, and for all your updates! 🙌☺️🙌
@OpenRoading7 ай бұрын
I discovered the slides thing when I realized my toppers were what was making the majority of the noise. I have an “invention” I am working on to solve that problem but it is very stuck in the “in Joseph’s brain” stage 😂 As to storms in the RV…I don’t consider myself to be an anxious person but I’m a mess when the weather includes watches and warnings. I gotta work on that… 😂 -J
@DMRSIX7 ай бұрын
@@OpenRoading You'll have to share what that invention is in a future episode! 🙌
@OpenRoading7 ай бұрын
@@DMRSIX From my research there's a lot of people who are on "Just get rid of your slide toppers" as the fix. This isn't my "invention idea", but I wish an RV manufacturer would design a slide topper quick release where before you put your slide out you could disconnect the topper from the RV so that you could just choose to not have the toppers out on a windy day - but re-extend them on normal days to protect the slide our roof.
@DMRSIX7 ай бұрын
@@OpenRoading That makes sense, regular awnings have automatic wind sensors and I realize I would be next to impossible to do that on a little slide topper but to be able to detach them would be very helpful. Also, it probably gives you more overall stability to bring the slides in.

So glad you were able to keep your RV in line (mostly) with the wind. We almost lost our RV in 70+ gusts as our truck was broke down and we could not reposition the RV and it was being hit directly on the side. The front was sliding and the front jacks starting to buckle. Wind in scary in an rv.
