Nice setup! I recommend a “MaxAir” or equivalent cover for the roof vent. Lets you keep it open in the rain and on the road. Also suggest some ground anchors since you’re subject to high winds. I have permanent ground anchors and some dedicated nylon tie-down ropes for my travel trailer as part of my hurricane preparedness plan.
@hithere73822 жыл бұрын
I had my RV built to order by the Oliver company in Hohenwald, TN mostly for the insulation aspects but also because being built to order they didn't throw much of a fit when I asked for very, very durable points to affix lines to in storms. It's 23'6" and twice the weight nearly though. I fitted it with 640 amp hours of lithium iron phosphate batteries and a 3.6kw inverter, and a victron solar system with 400 watts semi-permanently installed on the roof and another 600w that are ground mount that I put in the back of my f150 when traveling and deploy if there's a sunny side. There's also a 7kw fuel injected honda eu7000is that I take with us in the Winter and on very long trips in places with dense forest canopy but no 30 or 50 a plugs. That generator allows one to run all the systems in the RV and get a good charge on that battery bank simultaneously. When it's alternating current air conditioner dies I'm going to replace it with a DC one.

@@alvashoemaker8536 Yes. I live east of Houston. Agree that in a strong hurricane probably won’t be much of a travel trailer left. I evacuate, but want to minimize the storm damage at home. After Rita or Ike, I’ve seen a travel trailer blown over that would have been fine if tied down. The ground anchors I use are like they use for mobile homes only a bit smaller.

As this is semi-permanent, I would offer two suggestions. First would be to obtain four trailer tie down stakes to keep the unit where it is supposed to be. Second, I would make some sort of covering to protect the tires from sun and weather damage. This toy hauler might not be "rustic", but it will serve it's purpose.
@chalion83992 жыл бұрын
I'd also suggest getting the tires off the ground. Sitting on them without sometimes moving the trailer to heat up the tires, they'll start to dry rot and lose air. Best option would to remove the tires altogether so it will not roll/get stolen and preserve them for when you do need to move it. But at least raise the trailer so the tires are off the ground.

Usually on a trailer, the tires age-out before they wear out. Good practice is to cover them but still consider replacing them every 5 years. My 3500# travel trailer is almost 5 years old and semi-permanently parked. I know before I can take it on a trip, I'll have to replace the tires. Oh, and grease those bearings at least every 2 years.

Not sure if someone has already mentioned this, but for maximum airflow, it is best to place a fan aboout 6-12 inches from a window facing OUT of the window. This is also assuming you have a window opened elsewhere so it has somewhere to pull air into the cabin. I won't go into the details of why, but it is due to Bernoulli's principle and difference between high and low pressure areas the fan creates. Love the videos!

Great video! I have two suggestions: Firstly, an awning as suggested by others that attaches to over the front door to provide relief from rain when opening the side door. For the sound echoing inside, I would recommend marine carpet (used on boat decking) as it can be taken out the rear double doors and cleaned with a pressure cleaner when necessary. The grip floor inside the cabin would the cause of a lot of the echo. Any upholsterer who does boat trim should be able to make a custom rug from it.

Luke, if you ever take the cabin out west they do make a swamp cooler that fits a standard 14" roof opening. I have heard good things about them from the people who live in less humid areas. As a lifelong backroads RVer (and builder of such) I can say keep an eye out for an old popup with ruined canvas. I have gotten them for free before. They often have a perfectly fine direct discharge propane heater, stove top or even a range, A/C unit, water pump, tanks, et cetera.

Luke, I didn't see in which direction you turned the fan when you placed it near the window. My advice would be: let it blow out of the window so it sucks the air inside the hauler out and drags fresh air in from outside (through other openings/vents). This method is much more effective than the other way round. It also works for any house/flat when there's little wind. Stay safe my friend, greetings from Germany Btw: I love your new cabin! It looks so cool and cozy. Just the thing I'd spend some nights in. Hope it serves you well and I'm looking forward to future episodes with it. 😉

One small add-on, install the Velcro screens for the doors! Easy to install, and light weight! During hotter times it will keep the bugs out, but the airflow on. Hanging towels, tapestries on the walls reduces the echo effect, and will dampen the outside sounds when necessary.

Luke, I am 55 and I have been driving since I was 14 (don't ask). The trick to backing up a trailer is to grab the wheel at the bottom and to make small movements. My family had a 73 Ford F-100 trailer special and we towed a 21 foot travel trailer from Portland Ore. to Dallas Tex. and I at 14 could back it up better than my mom who drove cars for a living. Now your trailer just suggestions here I would go for the agm deep cycle batteries 2 of them along with solar to keep them charged up, LED lights, I would put a small propane heater on a wall for heat (you said that it was your safety when you get flooded out of tents your testing.) Suggestion cook your bacon first for the grease to cook your eggs in.

As soon as Luke mentioned needing a nickname, "the den" came to my mind immediately. I agree that I can't imagine a better name for the cabin. It just fits with the way Luke talks, addresses his viewers, and speaks about his channel.
