When he was doing his thing starting in 90’ western mass had amongst other things the largest GE defense manufacturing facility in the world 60,000 + people all making 60-100k+ and mills that supplied all the paper for textbooks notebooks all over the world even the paper money in your pocket made there. Lots of high paying jobs (60-100k/yr in the 80’s was good) and it’s a sports freak area THE biggest sports fans in the country. Lotta $ lotta gamblers. He was pulling 10 mil / wk or month he said on another podcast which I don’t doubt the guy was a top 95% earner of all mobsters anywhere. Also in those days if you looked at someone wrong around the area he was in you’d get the sh*t slapped out of you real quick or worse. Now that my most of the older, bigger guys are gone and my great uncle is gone i can share. My uncle was the biggest bookies back in the 70's,80's for the family. My cousin was a pro Jai Lai player. He was given some money to pass on to a winner and got pinched. Lost his entire career. His older brother took over my uncle's part. My other cousin moved to south Fl and ran a couple clubs for them. Providing escorts and places for them to conduct business etc. Our neighbor was the mobs mechanic. I can remember the FBI coming to the house to ask about the mechanic's family and his daughter. She had applied to be an agent. Some shit had been going down in Springfield, West Spfld and Agawam. We came to Fl, one mid 80's August to visit our older neighbors (no connections) for 3 weeks. Came home and dad sold the house and moved to Fl before Thanksgiving that year. When my dad was growing up, my grandpa left the neighborhood left to be raised by my Polish grandmother. So he was the only Polish kid in an all Italian neighborhood. Always protected, looked out and cared for growing up. As Anthony says, the mob today is nothing like the 2000's and the 2000's was nothing like 60's- 80's early 90's. Springfield now is riddled with Latin Kings, some Russian mobs but not a lot of Italian mob like it was if any of them.
