Lithuanians are not rich, but Lithuanians have a lot of land per person. There are few of us and the country isn't *that* small 😊

Lithuanians are in top ~5 in EU by land and real estate ownership. Together with Latvia, Poland and basically every other eastern block countries. Its because back in the soviet union, the government basically gave either a flat in the city or a house in the countryside for every family. So after the union collapsed, basically every family got to keep the flat or a house to live in and currently they own this real estate. Those who were given flats in soviet union, also were given small amount of land where they had option to build a little summer house. Those who received housing, or a larger land plot in the country side were given enough land to feed their families. Since in the union there were no capitalism, everyone had to grow a lot of food for themselves. Government mostly provided only with basic necessities and the production was only sustain the right amount of people and no more. So very often there was a huge deficite of various things. Different times... Different problems, if housing was fairly available back then, people lacked pretty much everything else. Now its vice versa, housing is expensive, but you can buy whatever you need.

i never knew someone who would call it “summer houses” sounds very posh😂it just village (kaimas)for us … usually something left over for us ( land and rural area)after grandparents or great-gradparents die or they live on as villagers -younger people tend to move to city .Gradparents and parents thought us gen after gen how to plant and harvest or take care of the land … Mushroom harvest and berry picking is skills we thought as well ,as children … it is as my grandmother said “its the same as learning how to drive a bike or swim once you learn it you never forget it, life skill’ … We do tend to be proud about natural produce we can get from our own land but also having a skill to look at a plant and just know is it just right😅 then again i just talking from my own experience i live in uk right now and last time i been in lithunia was 5-10 years ago… however that is what i remember … Thank you for being so kind … wish you the best ❤

Be careful with the mushrooms, I was on my hands and knees trying to puck. It depends on who picks the mushrooms. One bad mushroom and your going to have one of your worst days on earth.

Don`t go mushroom picking alone. Mushrooms are probably the only deadly danger in this country. Quite a few deadly poisonous, you need to have a good knowledge if you want to pick them up, some have very strong poison, its enough to have one bad mushroom in the basket with the good ones and the poison will transfer to the good ones it will be enough to kill you. So yeah, don`t go mushroom picking without someone who has knowledge. Of course in a prepared food you can buy, all mushrooms are good :D @@heytolani

Puking it out is the best case scenario. You got lucky.

Get a book for mushrooms. If you picking a mushroom and you see something is slightly off, don't take it. Only take if you are 100% sure that it looks like what are you searching for. If color is off or has a skirt for some reason or has faint weird spots DON"T TAKE IT. If you are a newbie start with just one or two types. "Voveraites" and "baravykas" are pretty good start. You also should look up for "mimics" so that you know what to avoid. Almost all good mushrooms has a "mimick" that are poisonous. And if you see "Žalsvoji musmirė" don't even touch it or look at it or make a conversation with it, he will ruin your life. I'm not expert myself so just do your research and you will be ok.

@@erikasolnc My nephew picked about 20 different mushrooms and put them on the car trunk to sort. My cousin a long time mushroom picker found that one of the mushrooms was the worst, very deadly. All in all about 30% were edible. I vacation near the city of Garzgdai. On three occasions I became very sick, no longer eat wild mushrooms.

Sommer houses is from socialism, because we are ground-land people and if you want move someone in apartment and with accent so you should give something in return for exemple a small piece of land and on that land people bild a small houses

It's not a summer house. :D It's this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Household_plot. It helped a lot of people from starving, especially in soviet times. Also: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dacha and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allotment_(gardening). :)

I never understand when ppl say that Lithuanians drink a lot. I mean maybe it depends on generations? I was born in free lithuania and No one around same age as me drink a lot lol. Like it depends on occasion ofc but nothing crazy. I feel like young ppl mostly smoke here. But older millennials like 30+ r the ones that drink a lot because maybe they are used to celebrating in that way. But I’m always rly shocked when ppl say Lithuanians drink much. I lived in Scandinavia for many years and I was shocked how much people drink there, I’ve never seen anything like that before 😂

The real ancient Lithuania is the territory of modern Belarus. The real Lithuanian language is a Slavic language, spoken by the Lithuanian people. Today's Lithuania is until the middle of the 19th century -- Samogitia, the outskirts of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, which with the assistance of the Russian Empire authorities assigned a foreign name. You can see this on any map older than the 19th century.
