In 1999 (I was 28), I was home visiting with family and friends. One day, I was out with Karen (a woman whom I loved more than anything. Unfortunately, I lived 400 miles away). She was about 21. We were, sitting in her car, enjoying the summer's heat and conversation. At one point, she expressed to me some options for work/education she'd been considering; but she was, also, concerned about the time all this might take. Thinking of her abundant youth, I said to her, 'Don't worry: you've got your entire life ahead of you.' She was killed in a horrifying car crash a month later. Now, I'm not telling you that to be all morose and gloomy; but, it does emphasis the point that we never, truly, know how much time we, really, have. (Also, after that, I've never told another, living soul they have 'the rest of their lives ahead of them.') Hope you're well, J

@@anaabendroth3460 What is plenty anyway, counting years as quantity over quality? Age old question and I guess I will end up at that point too and someone else says the same.
@teresaellis70623 ай бұрын
"Plenty of time" means to me: enjoy the time I have. Don't stress about how much time you have, because worrying won't give you more time, it will only make the time you do have less pleasant. I learned, years ago, after crash landing my bike in a blackberry patch that I could either laugh or cry at my predicament. I decided to laugh through the pain, because laughing is more fun. Laughing didn't stop the bleeding or the fact that I had to pull thorns out of my hand, but it helped me handle the pain and gave me a better outlook on life. As the years have passed and I have had tragedies in my life, including losing loved ones and friends to death, I still try to choose laughter when I can. I still grieve, but I make sure I remember the light moments. So I say, we all have enough time and enough is plenty of time for me. And I must say, congratulations on 74! With what all I have seen that can happen in life, reaching 7 decades is pretty impressive. 😊💖

Plenty of time, not plenty of time... and in one perspective, all we surely and really have is the moment we are in, now. And that applies to all of us, what ever age and were ever we are. We can truly only live now (not yesterday - it's too late to try that, nor tomorrow - we cannot reach it yet. Both of those just distract us from here and now. The moment we have.)

Lovely to see your smiling face on the laptop... I love music and words. I was not attracted to metal back in the day because of the uninteresting words. However, I went to Holland 4 years ago for a few months. It was net-surfing I discovered The Gathering of the Anneke era. And then, someone tipped me off about this band called Nightwish. And thence, Floor. And now, I listen to what is top compositions. And I won't tell anyone it is not metal. But something unique...Does it need a name? In the meantime, I have found a third source of female energy. That is a woman from 400 years ago in England - named Margaret Cavendish. She was the first woman to write science fiction. She also wrote about science and philosophy. And all with a keen sense of humor. There is a biography about her - 'Pure Wit' it is called. I do recommend it. But her own writings are back in demand again after all these years. And inspiration like Eugene Shoemaker and Mary Anning. Love your music. And say Hi to Anneke, if you see her. Sorry to say I never was able to go to either of your concerts. One day soon, I hope.

How lovely of you to chat with us! About time :) I heard psychologists saying that our brains are not meant to multitask. We simply cannot perform equally well when we spread our efforts on more than a subject. It is weird that on our CVs it is almost mandatory to add that we are able to "multitask". On a different note, it seems that climate change brings with it lengthier days. Only microseconds for now - due melting of ice and redistribution of water, which affects the rotation of the planet. That could change how we measure (and value) time!

Another sad truth i never wanted to share my gift with anyone until a dear friend begged me to share so i finally gave in made my own KZbin channel and started to share my music 3 weeks later my dear friend passed away. Life is short so share your gifts and talents.

Perceptions of time are weird. When we had our first child one unexpected result was that I spent _more_ time on creative projects, even though I had far less time available for anything other than family and work. The slivers of time I got became more precious - I found I could write on the bus to and from work, when just reading while travelling had made me feel sick before. Ideas came to me while my daughter was drifting off to sleep. I got a (small press) RPG supplement published and started work on a novel, doing more in 2 years than I'd done in the previous 10 (or indeed any subsequent 2 year span). I wouldn't want to live like that all the time - too intense - but I am very glad to have had that experience.

Thanks for sharing, Floor! Dealing with the time we have: I do divide it between the time at work and the time at home. And the time at home I have to divide between time I need to do things and I want to do things. So it is breaking down to "spare time" in the end, if we're talking about that. Time to learn. When all the laundry has been done. The dishwashing..you get my point. What I've come to like: trying to share my knowledge with others. 63yrs of age. No kids of my own: I like to share things with friends, neigbours.. Not essentially, to by remembered myself. But so much information that I gathered: it took me so long to get to know! To make it more easy to access to others. So they can go on from that.

From a scientific standpoint: long before railways humans measured time. Medieval villages had night guard verbally announcing „was die Stunde geschlagen hat“. A real came with invention of artificial (electric) light which allowed people to start working/being active before and after sunrise. Only when factory work got common measured working hours started to exist. Before that people worked until things were done, there was no more sun light or they felt naturally exhausted. Most people were self employed (farmers, craftsmanship). They worked where they lived as they had no way to commute to work over distances exceeding 5km.

I do have a couple of questions please and they are good ones: We all love Marko as you know, he has stated in recent interviews that he would "consider rejoining Nightwish if they could work out the business side of things" (which was the main reason he left). Do you think there is a chance that whatever specifics he is referring to, could be changed? And number two, what everyone wants to know... with or without Marko, when do you feel will be the right time for another tour... I have been predicting 2026 for over a year now. So these two topics might fill an entire coffee episode I believe.. yes? thank you again

Making time for a creative pursuit such as model making to unwind is like getting an extra hour of sleep, it really refreshes me and sets me up for the next day. But it’s so easy to work through that extra hour if I’m under pressure at work, and then it feels like losing 3hrs of sleep. Make time for your non-work hobbies!

I honestly believe time does not exist outside of our minds. Whenever I check, it is now. When I started writing this comment it was NOW, while I am writing it, it is NOW, and by the time I finish I will look around and it will still be NOW. Numbers on my clock might have changed, but it is still NOW. I don't know how to explain it so that it makes sense, but both past and future are just images in our minds. I can IMAGINE a past experience, like a memory from childhood, or I can imagine a future experience, like going to a party next weekend etc. But if we don't imagine anything, if we get out of our heads all we are left with is a never ending everlasting present moment. "Endlessness of now" - I believe that line comes from one of Nightwish's songs.
